I just got into Iowa... can you tell me about it? :)

AHHHHH CONGRATULATIONS, MY ANGEL!!!!!!

Honestly some of the best weeks of my life; I still keep in touch with my Iowa friend group and love them all so much. What would you like to know about it?! The biggest thing you should know is a) PIE SHAKES. try pie shakes when you’re there and get your fill of them because you can’t find them anywhere outside of Iowa City and it breaks my heart every time !!!! and b) have material to workshop before you go, because whereas Kenyon was very writing-heavy, Iowa was very much focused on editing/workshopping so !!!

Also, you will fall absolument in LOVE with Iowa City; if I wasn’t on mobile, I’d write some soliloquy about how just buzzing with creativity the place is but !! alas ya girl is being hauled off back to campus so am typing this out on my phone.

Hey guys! I got into session 2 of Iowa Young Writers' Studio, if anyone else on here got in DM me. Still not sure If I'll be able to go, but would love to talk to others who also got in for now.

I didn't get into IYWS. I really liked my pieces this year, guess I'll have to try harder next year. If anyone who sees this got accepted and is willing to share what an accepted creative writing sample looks like please dm me. :^)

Admissions are due for IYWS the 8th and what am I doing? Writing. When should I have done it? All year long. Ahhhhhh. To be fair I did give up only to remember that I love writing and should have never gave up on it at all yesterday night. Soooo,,, lets see where we end up. Finished statement of purpose in like 30 mins, the creative writing pages are coming a lot easier than last year, teacher rec in the bag, and getting transcripts tomorrow.

What did you send in for your application for IYWS? Like for the creative writing sample, one long piece of lots of short pieces?

I applied to the creative non-fiction workshop, so I sent a mix of poems and snippets from my longer works (short stories). Hope this helps!! x
