Hi Ellen! Thanks for being so awesome, creating something (Carmilla) I have become truly invested in, and speaking your mind! I have three questions: 1) Do you have any New Year's resolutions? 2) What are your opinions as a critic/fan of Carol? (I just saw it and loved it intensely). 3) is there a Carmilla S0 playlist like the playlists for S1 and S2? Thanks again, and I'd love to hear from you!
1] I don’t really do resolutions exactly. Can’t exercise more. Mostly because I’m the gym regular who’s glaring at all the resolutioners wishing they’d go away. I’ll probably do P90X or just run until the end of the month when it tapers off.
I would like to run a half marathon at some point this coming year. There’s one in March.
I’d like to potentially get The Rain Maker published, and finish redrafting A Heist Story into a story that makes actual sense and follows a four act structure (this is easier said than done).
I would like to actually get the specs I’ve got lying around incomplete finished.
2] I enjoyed the film. I disliked certain creative choices in the film (the Abby plot hole for instance - How does Therese not freak out? She hasn’t met her yet and carol’s gone and this stranger’s just chillin in her room) but overall I thought it was very well done and beautifully shot. I thought there should have been more of Carrie Brownstein’s character’s scene at the end as well, because that moment with Therese is so pivotal in the book and it seems almost extraneous in the film. You need that moment to see her move past viewing Carol as this worshipful mother-replacement (SO GLAD they didn’t go into that too much in the film) and to more as someone she can grow with. That scene is so powerful in the book that I really hate how it wasn’t quite there.
That said. It’s absolutely stunning and wonderful. Everyone should go see it. I wish tumblr would stop making it into a damn meme, but that’s just me being crotchety.
3] The only mix I’ve made is vhs and chill.
