Benghazi controversy explained

It’s been nearly three years since the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks in Benghazi, Libya, and the events of that night still remain a political controversy. The eighth investigation into the tragedy is currently under way. But, as previously expected, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will not be called upon to testify, just yet. According to Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, she won’t be asked to testify until the State Department has provided additional related documents. http://dlvr.it/9whzk5

There is considerable contemporaneous reporting that demonstrates the Obama administration knew long before it said so publicly that the attacks were planned and likely the work of al Qaeda-related terrorists.

White House Story On Attack Collapses

News reports this week revealed that US intelligence officials had connected al Qaeda-linked terrorists to the killing of our ambassador and three other Americans within 24 hours of the attack in Benghazi. We also learned that the attack was a sophisticated operation. Terrorists were well-armed with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, and other weapons. They used ambush tactics in a two-stage attack, first on the consulate and then on a nearby building where several Americans had fled. Yet, for days following the September 11th assault, senior Obama officials blamed an Internet video and steered the public's attention away from an al Qaeda connection. But how could U.S. intelligence identify an al Qaeda link within a day of the attack and the White House not know about it? Mayor Giuliani offered his view on Fox News. "I think there's no question that the administration was covering up from day one," he commented. "I mean putting out a totally phony story to try and block the political criticism that the president took his eye off the ball." A Wall Street Journal editorial noted that the White House has "tried to stonewall" the release of information on the attack and characterized the actions of one Obama official as giving the "appearance of a cover-up." In other news, Iranian President Ahmadinejad told the UN General Assembly that Israel is a "fake regime" and would be "eliminated." President Obama still refused a meeting at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who had requested one last week and was in New York for the UN conference. Also of note is the reporting of Michael Gordon of the NYT on the final stages of the U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq: "Concerned that decisions were being made without careful consideration of all the military factors, Admiral Mullen sent a classified letter to Mr. Donilon [the president's national security advisor] that recommended keeping 16,000 troops.... Admiral Mullen's letter arrived with a thud at the White House."

First we were told they were marines, found out later they were Seals, “On an intelligence mission to round up dangerous weapons in the war-torn nation.” (ABC News, Sept. 13)

Not in an armored car

Why did the ‘spontaneous’ crowds have RPGs and Laser Accurate mortar fire?

Why was the most important person there, the Ambassador, left for dead while others made it out?

Protesters in Egypt take over US Embassy in Cairo

SaharaReporters has learned that security measures have been strengthened in volatile Northern Nigerian cities in order to guard against the kind of violence in Libya last night which claimed the life of the United States ambassador to that country.  

Reports said that Ambassador J Christopher Stevens and four other Americans were killed when militants, incensed about a US-produced film seen as having insulted Prophet Muhammad, attacked the Consulate with bombs and guns.
