You know the guy that plays ‘Sam’ (Sean Astin) in The Lord Of The Rings? Well, apparently, he’s actually in other movies! If I hadn’t been wandering the Internet far too late, I wouldn’t have found this movie or discovered that. He also played the steroid popping brother from 50 First Dates. But wait, don’t get too excited! This movie isn’t as funny as 50 First Dates.
Two desk jockey bullies (Sean Astin & Michael Vartan) in a call centre for a tire company bully a co-worker (David Cross, you know, ‘Tobias Funke’ from Arrested Development, also not as funny as that.); he becomes the boss and demotes the two. You can pretty much guess the rest, any regular progression would playout pretty simply, and it did.
Though the plot was predictable, there were some good laughs. David Cross makes ‘Ken Costa’ an awkward character susceptible to punishment, which works out well for the comedy factor.
I did spend a whole paragraph in this review talking about other, so Demoted really isn’t amazing, no reinventing the wheel here. But a half decent script, strippers and David Cross get this movie a 3/8 from me, easily forgettable.
FFO: David Cross, Horrible Bosses and Straight-To-DVD Comedies.
