I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It’s nice.

J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
— J.D. Salinger.
I knew it wasn’t too important, but it made me sad anyway.
J.D. Salinger / The Catcher in the Rye
And I can’t be running back and forth forever between grief and high delight.
J.D. Salinger, Franny and Zooey
really d.b. is the unspoken best character of catcher because if i landed on d-day and fought the germans through a whole world war and became rich and successful enough for one of my stories to be optioned for a movie and my little snot-nosed ne'er-do-well brother who was 13 when the war ended had the nerve to sneer at me for ~losing artistic integrity~ and ~prostituting myself to hollywood~ i'd have to kill him
I just hope that one day- preferably when we’re both blind drunk- we can talk about it.
