❛ i tried to be good . . . am i no good ? ❜
@j0ysticks asked : ❛ today isn’t your day, is it? ❜
any other day claire would have laughed off a question like this, shook her head despite hardships and continued her job - but here she is today instead, mourning for a city that could have once again been saved and instead all it's left is ruins and death. you learn to live with it as time passes by, compartmentalizing as much as possible so that whoever might have survived could actually believe you can keep them safe from further harm... but there's no denying now that claire doesn't feel very much like that person anymore - her beliefs and hope basically being buried along with tall oaks.
"i knew some of the victims." she remarks, no bite in her words, only exhaustion as hands clasp on her lap in attempt to hide their trembling. "fuck, my friends are there." a bitter laugh escapes her lips as head bows - the whole reason why she's decided to operate with terrasave once again even though her trust in the organisation had dissipated a couple years prior with neil's way of leading it. eventually claire reaches for her radio again, thumb relentlessly pushing over button in hope anyone could tell her that the search is going well. "have you found anyone so far?"
PROMPTS FOR LAVISH BALLS, PARTIES, AND SECRETS | accepting.
@j0ysticks asked: [ stairwell ] sender stumbles upon receiver sitting in the stairwell alone, hiding from the crowded ballroom and all the guests
Due to her standing Ashley was often invited to all sorts of fancy get-togethers. Though some could be entertaining ..the majority were dull.
The guests were typically older 'rich' folk who more often than not came off as sketchy. Which is why the woman tended to fade into the background, even if that was difficult being the president's daughter and all.
-- she still tried ---
At the very least paparazzi were prohibited for the evening - she could wander as she pleased, a nice quiet place for a breather was the goal when she left the side of her Father. Earlier Ashley had noticed a stairwell that seemed to fit the bill, who'd hang around there when they could dance?
--Once reaching her destination she sat down and began rubbing at her sore feet. As lovely as the heeled shoes were, they weren't meant to be worn for such a long period of time.
--- (If only she had brought a flat pair. - ugh, she'd have to remind herself to do just that for the next event)
and now, to make matters just a bit worse - the steps of another could be heard growing in closer. Just when she thought she could be alone with her shoes off!
--- head turned and tilted to the side to get a look at who was approaching. To her relief they weren't one of those snobby looking men her Father was conversing with but it didn't make things any less embarrassing.
"S-Sorry. I'll move. -" Due to them appearing close in age, she couldn't help wondering who this girl was? Perhaps a daughter of one of the guests here?
Or maybe she herself was someone of importance?
[ 𝐁𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐇 ] ― sender brushes receiver’s hair
The bristles of the brush pass through Carmen's soft dark locks easily, barely catching on any tangles (she can thank her trusty conditioner for that), and she hums as she hugs her knees closer to her chest, her eyes contently shut. It's nice having someone take care of her. With her mother gone, and her older sister off to college, it's rare anyone has the opportunity to do things like this with Carmen.
Her mother used to brush her hair and sing to her to keep her from fussing when there were too many tangles, and Maria loved combing through Carmen's hair. It was almost like a bonding activity for them —— Maria would brush her hair, and they'd talk about crushes... Of course, it was mostly one-sided, as Carmen rarely had any kind of romantic interest in anyone she went to school with.
Carmen sighs out, smiling to herself as Jude brushes through her hair, her hands gentle as can be. ❛❛ You're next. ❜❜ She says, leaving no room for argument as she shoots a grin over her shoulder. ❛❛ I mean it, I don't care how much longer we have on our lunch break, ❜❜ She glances down at her watch and winces. Okay, not so long, then... ❛❛ Alright, switch places with me. ❜❜ @j0ysticks

there's a silence as he marches along, not really paying much attention to the other that was walking alongside him. he never really cared for idle conversation or saying too much. there was no need to really talk, anyway. after all, it wasn't words from mandalorians that people wanted. it was what they could do.
besides, no one needed to know about grogu. and he'd prefer to keep it that way.
❝ unless you know your way around a ship to help fix it, i'd say to go about your way. ❞ he replies without answering her question. his ship needed fixing -- and he was well away from the nearest person he trusts it with. he had just finished picking up scrap that had fallen away from it. it was going to take a bit for him to do the needed repairs himself.
@j0ysticks asked : what do you listen to ? to get into the flow .
question is met with a confused hum when she notices jude looking at her, polite smile offered as earphones are taken off and placed around her neck. soft 'oh.' leaves her lips upon hearing what was initially inquired, gaze darting around the nearly empty gym as claire figures out that of course it would appear she might be listening to some sort of playlist. "uh, i'm actually listening to a podcast." she confesses, lios pursing tight before offering an apologetic look. "sherry and rani have been talking nonstop about it over brunch last week, so i was curious to hear what's all about."
head bows and a smile forms on lips at the thought of her girls - the podcast in question being ungodly bad but she will still listen to it to the end just for the sake of having something to connect with them, watching them growing up before her eyes surely taking the most negative toll on claire's mind when they were little kids just the other day. "y'know, you should join sometime, the girls would love you." and truth is they could all benefit of having a few more friends in the deal. "i can send you the link to the podcast if you'd like."
Carmen tilts her head when she spots Jude sitting alone, and is quick to make her way over to the other girl, offering a crooked smile as she approaches. ❛❛ Hope you don't mind some company. ❜❜ She drawls, sighing softly as she sits beside Jude, kicking her feet out so her legs are stretched straight. It feels nice to take a little break, the arcade had been so crazy all afternoon... ❛❛ You've been so quiet today, is... Something up? ❜❜ She asks, tone quiet, as she's not wanting to be invasive. She's quick to hold her hands up. ❛❛ It's totally cool if you don't want to talk about it, we can just... Sit here. ❜❜ @j0ysticks
@j0ysticks asked : ❛ do you want to share this? ❜
staying at home alone felt weird lately, claire swearing up and down that something is in there, that the sounds she hears and the shadows cast among dim lights are not just made up in her mind; something is wrong and she can't figure out what - so doing overtime it is, getting ahead with the paperwork overload while most of the other members are going to their houses, the lucky ones going back to their families even. it feels like a luxury from her point of view, especially when most of her family is in another state way too far and all she can do is miss them and hope a phone call is enough when everything around her becomes too much.
question catches claire off guard, slight jump in her office chair as gaze darts on the younger woman. "i'm sorry, what?" a quick glance is given back to her laptop screen, thumb and index pinching bridge of her nose before pushing glasses in a more comfortable position. "oh, no thank you." claire tells her politely once noticed the granola bar still in its wrap. "you dig in though." a warm smile follows her words, and for a moment claire can't help but wonder why jude is also sitting at a desk a little past midnight. "you know we don't get paid for this, right?" she attempts to joke after a while, head tilting to the pile of files between their laptops. "i promise i won't get offended if you leave to go have a funnier time elsewhere."
