         The bristles of the brush pass through Carmen's soft dark locks easily, barely catching on any tangles (she can thank her trusty conditioner for that), and she hums as she hugs her knees closer to her chest, her eyes contently shut. It's nice having someone take care of her. With her mother gone, and her older sister off to college, it's rare anyone has the opportunity to do things like this with Carmen.

         Her mother used to brush her hair and sing to her to keep her from fussing when there were too many tangles, and Maria loved combing through Carmen's hair. It was almost like a bonding activity for them     ——    Maria would brush her hair, and they'd talk about crushes... Of course, it was mostly one-sided, as Carmen rarely had any kind of romantic interest in anyone she went to school with.

         Carmen sighs out, smiling to herself as Jude brushes through her hair, her hands gentle as can be.      ❛❛   You're next.   ❜❜     She says, leaving no room for argument as she shoots a grin over her shoulder.      ❛❛   I mean it, I don't care how much longer we have on our lunch break,   ❜❜     She glances down at her watch and winces.          When she's given permission to open her eyes, Carmen's blinking at the frog illustrated perfectly against her skin and lets out a delighted squeal that garners the attention of anyone in proximity. Carmen doesn't care about the attention she's getting, too busy grinning down at her own hand.     ❛❛   Oh my god, It looks so real!   ❜❜     She excitedly exclaims, holding her wrist as she brings her hand up, brown eyes sparkling as she examines the amphibian in closer detail. @whitelace

"yeah, yeah, just laugh it up," eyes roll and steve gestures vaguely with one hand before it drops to his hip. it really was just one STRIKE-OUT after another. he still does his best to portray confidence, but he does wonder if he's ... lost his touch a little bit. almost like it's not so easy to move on like normal after the last few years ... y'know, happened. "oh yeah, totally -- the next one," he adds [ 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚝𝚘𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚌𝚎𝚍 ], as he moves to start absently putting returned videos back on the shelf.

         Her expression softens, the boisterous laughter once bubbling out of her now simmering into a regretful silence. She has to remind herself she's not dealing with King Steve anymore, that the man in front of her doesn't exude the confidence he once did     ——    he's changed, for the better... He's the one that was there for her when her mother died... When no one else believed her.

         So, Carmen smiles, stepping closer as she idly watches Steve restock the shelves, and she hums as she reaches out to pluck one free and squint at the writing on the back. Pretending to read about the special features.     ❛❛   I'm serious, Steve.   ❜❜     She admonishes, too shy to look up from the VHS in her hand as she leans against the shelf, her freckled cheeks warm.      ❛❛   You're a total catch. These girls are just... I dunno, they don't have taste. I mean, you've seen the movies they rent.   ❜❜
