SEASONS GREETINGS Results - 12/3/21
We've reached December, and it's that time of year again. The air is crisper, the carols are hitting the radio, and the scent of pine, peppermint, and fresh gingerbread is everywhere. The holidays are upon us, and everyone knows that the holidays are the season of giving.
If you're spending your Fridays at MPW, however, it's the season of giving...out beatings.
Seasons Greetings was no different this past Friday, and the violent side of the spirit of giving was everywhere. From the last minute contest of Danny Divine versus Miggy Rose to the main event, the superstars of Millennium Pro Wrestling didn't come to play: they came to win.
A worthy precursor to next week's Secret Santa and the upcoming Naughty Or Nice, this was a night to remember full of returns, tension, and incredible competition. We have the results here, as well as some exclusive comments from the locker room.
Never let it be said that the X-Press doesn't have the best presents...so let's get started.
KICKOFF
The night began with a surprise appearance from the indomitable Johnnie Robbie, who had a bone left to pick with Auntie Hydie after last week's loss. Unwilling to settle and unable to get past it, Robbie set out to take the Dapper Banshee on a second time.
“I've been losing since I came back from injury, and I feel more and more like I have something to prove.” she shared with the X-Press after the show, when asked about this fixation on taking Hydie on again. “Hydie and I are the only women in MPW. I wanted to be her friend, I hoped we could stick together because of that and prove ourselves against the rest of the locker room, but she's lost herself to that dark side. If I can't be her friend, then I want to – I have to prove myself against her.”
So it was that Robbie laid the challenge – and while Hydie came out to answer, it was not an answer Robbie wanted to hear.
No. No, there would be no rematch...at least, not yet. However, MPW's dear Auntie Hydie didn't come out to the ring alone, and claimed that she was a generous soul...
So she offered up a championship match against MPW's National Champion, J2 – and Robbie wasn't going to ignore an opportunity like that.
UNSCHEDULED
National Championship Match
J2 DEFEATS Johnnie Robbie
With Hydie at ringside, opera glasses in hand to enjoy the slaughter, the match was incredibly one-sided in favor of J2. However, Hydie's puppet could not be truly called dominant for the simple fact that Johnnie Robbie is absolutely relentless. For every blow J2 absorbed without flinching, Robbie had three more, and a kickout for every attempted pinfall.
The fight she put up was nothing short of prolific – but at the end of the day, the dark power granted to the former Playmaker by Hydie's unnatural influence was too much for her. After working on Robbie's arm for more than half the match, he eventually retained his title by pinfall. It was a hard loss for Robbie, but more notably? It was not an easy match for J2 – a fact that Hydie has got to be hyper aware of when considering the future in terms of Johnnie Robbie's quest for vindication.
Danny Divine vs Miggy Rose – DRAW BY COUNT OUT
Initially scheduled to be Sexy Fabrizio versus Miggy Rose, rescheduling by another competitor resulted in a change to the card which provided us with...well, I'll be blunt: the match was incredible.
In what has gone from phenomenon to routine after multiple weeks, the quality of this match was absolutely staggering – not merely because Danny Divine was half of the equation, but because of the involvement of one Miggy Rose. Out of the gate, this was a mat based clinic, followed by a case study in raw, unprecedented agility on the part of Divine. The pair were too well balanced, reduced to goading each other into back and forth fists that left a mark – quite literally, as a hand shaped bruise swiftly appeared on Rose's ribs during the match.
A hold by Rose, Divine broke on the ropes. A dive at Rose on ringside, Rose countered. The match, unfortunately, ended in a ringside brawl where the pair traded fists until the ref had to count them both out. The resulting draw angered Rose and visibly frustrated Divine as he headed back to the locker room in the aftermath.
TAG TEAM MATCH
Full Send (Bucio/Dustin Daniels) DEFEATS The Anti Saviors (Hellman Rosecrown/Richie Coy)
It's been a while since the Anti Saviors have been seen in the MPW Arena, and they have not grown less arrogant in their time away. With Bucio and Coy starting the match, it initially seemed as though Full Send had things well in hand as Bucio took the boots to Coy. However, the tide swiftly turned and control remained firmly in the hands of the Anti Saviors. Trapping Bucio in the corner for most of the match, Rosecrown and Coy mocked and jeered at the pair at every turn. At one point, Rosecrown even took to wearing Bucio's trademark headband in a show of disrespect, while Coy did their part in making sure that the Anti Saviors took Dustin out of his corner and down to the mat at ringside at least twice during the match.
Fortunately, Full Send was firmly on the same page tonight, and one hot tag to Daniels was all it took to give them enough of an advantage to secure the pinfall. The X-Press managed to catch up with Coy after the match, asking for their thoughts on the loss. Surprisingly, Coy was unruffled by the fact that they didn't pick up the win, and was, for all his arrogance, fairly even handed in his assessment of the loss.
“This? Is hardly a setback.” Coy declared confidently. “I love the art in everything, and I see each and every thing that I do as something that's filled with beauty – even defeat is beautiful, and has a lot to teach. I relish that beauty, I live for those life lessons...and I will use them to my advantage in the next encounter.”
Brendan Divine DEFEATS Bulletproof
Clear-eyed, for once, as he headed to the ring, Bulletproof appeared focused on his target as Brendan Divine headed to the ring. After a pre-match selfie, as requested by the crowd, the match kicked off with a powerful showing -- quite literally, with delivery of one particularly stunning dropkick not long after the match’s commencement. There was some banter as well, and an attempt by Divine to make nice with Bulletproof was, sadly, unsuccessful. Unable to convert his opponent into another of his Believers, Divine got serious and got into the match.
It was a hell of a contest, and after hitting Bulletproof with Left On Read, Divine secured the pinfall. He wasn’t done, however, calling for the mic to discuss his upcoming confrontation with J2 at Naughty Or Nice. In a display of honesty to the crowd, and perhaps even to himself most of all, Brendan confirmed that he was, in fact, afraid. With the boon of power that comes with his seeming enslavement to Hydie, J2 presents a frightening challenge -- however, Brendan said that he was ready for that challenge, and ready for J2 at Naughty Or Nice.
Brendan is clearly focused, and clearly prepared to face whatever hell may lay in store at the hands of Hydie’s Void -- whether or not he can overcome the odds, however, remains to be seen.
BATTLE OF THE SEXYS
Ray Rosas DEFEATS Sexy Fabrizio
In a lusty battle for the ages, Sexy Fabrizio and the man known by MPW as Sexy Jesus settled quickly into the match once the bell rang -- by going low and turning up the heat with a sultry display of mat work that left the crowd breathless at the Rated X display...that’s X for ‘eXtremely saucy.’
However, once that entertaining display was over the pair began the match for real -- and with an actual mat based contest, no less. It was a highly intense battle of two equally matched competitors, offering yet another even contest that brought with it an unbelievably entertaining display of athleticism and grit. The SoCal legend Rosas was taken to the brink by the up and comer Fabrizio. Rosas pulled out all the stops, but eventually hit a wall where he was willing to accept a count out victory -- one he very nearly earned.
Fabrizio, however, wasn’t about to be bested, pushing Rosas still further -- so far that Rosas took advantage of the cutouts in Fabrizio’s tights for...ah...well, there’s no delicate way to put it.
Rosas delivered a matched set of purple nurples to the Sexy One. Then, later, when the tights came down, he did it again.
Ultimately, however, experience won out with Rosas taking the victory by pinfall. In a show of respect, however, he raised the hand of Fabrizio, as well as sharing a...well, it was a friendly bump, but not of fists.
What can we say, readers: respect is sexy.
MAIN EVENT
NON TITLE MATCH
Barbie Boi DEFEATS Jordan Cruz
Brendan Divine was on commentary for this one, which provided an early distraction to Cruz. He was on Divine’s case immediately, and shoved the former National Champion on his way to the ring. Cruz is strangely fixated on Divine, unable to move past their last confrontation -- it’s not the only thing Cruz is unable to move past, and served as strange foreshadowing for what was to come later in the night.
Once Barbie Boi hit the ring and the match began, the Dream House Champion gained an early advantage, one he lost to a test of strength against the more powerful Cruz. It was an advantage Cruz held onto for much of the match, once again proving he could be a truly great competitor if not for his ego. Through the use of underhanded tactics like biting, and showing disgraceful behavior in berating Barbie Boi’s family at ringside, Cruz proved without question that the MPW Board of Directors made the right call by making this a non title contest. Cruz is clearly not yet ready for a title shot in MPW with this kind of behavior -- he even went so far as to berate the champion himself in the ring, decrying Barbie Boi as being less than a man.
However, as Cruz failed to make a pinfall stick or to make Barbie Boi tap, the MPW World Champion proved that, unlike Cruz, real men can fight with honor and look pretty while they do it.
In the end, Barbie Boi scored the victory by pinfall, but Cruz, once again, couldn’t let things go and unleashed a vicious assault on the champion. Help came in the form of the King of Xtreme, Ray Rosas, who came to Barbie Boi’s aid.
However, in the confusion following the attack Barbie Boi didn’t realize the cavalry had arrived, and lashed out with a blow when Rosas tried to help Barbie Boi to his feet. This resulted in a heated fight that was so clearly a wild misunderstanding that even the crowd got involved, chanting “He did not know!” for Ray’s benefit.
Rosas picked up the title, and clearly did not even believe the MPW crowd, because rather than hand the title back to Barbie Boi, he dropped it in the middle of the ring, ending the evening on an uncomfortably ominous note.
The question remains: did Barbie Boi know it was Ray? Did he strike out on purpose? In an exclusive post-show conversation with the MPW X-Press, Barbie Boi made the answer clear.
“I thought it was Jordan!” Barbie Boi declared earnestly when asked, wringing his hands fretfully as he spoke to the X-Press. “I never meant to hit Ray, he’s my friend!”
That much is clear...but is Ray Rosas still Barbie Boi’s friend? Only time will tell.
