None of them are edited, and all of them are amateur as hell, but I have now "one more chaptered-" my way into recording the first 18 chapters of Momu by Jabberish XD
Basically a day or so ago I officially decided I needed to be able to listen to the fic so I can still be productive when my brain is hyperfixated on it, because I can listen to stories and still get shit done, but I can't read while getting shit done and sometimes my brain gets real fucking fixated even though I have shit I really gotta do lol
May talk/post about this more later, recording audio for books so I can listen to them and work is something I've done a bit of before, and I am a theatre kid in a family of theatre kids, with some older siblings with some frankly fascinating voice acting skills, so I'm not a complete novice, but uh, yeah, pretty close lol.
I'm just recording off of my phone, though from chapter 13 and onward have been using a proper app for it instead of the default recording app my phone came with due to a memory issue that forced me to rerecord multiple chapters, chapter 8 was one and earned a vindictive middle finger emoji when naming the file, because the slagging glitch app only recorded the first 18 seconds with no notifications or indicators it was no longer recording anything (because it ran out of memory) and THAT chapter had slagging ENCRYPTED COMMS.
Which, since I also wouldn't know what that meant without a verbal description, is just a BUNCH of letters and numbers, but it has to sound like the people talking are speaking actual words and understand each other because they ARE and they DO and Jazz is just eavesdropping without the proper encryption, but it's from Jazz's pov, so not do I only have fragging numbers and letters and some context clues to help figure out what the cadence and intonation (etc) should be like, I have to read long lists of NUMBERS AND LETTERS LIKE THEY HAVE A CLEAR AND INTENTIONAL CADENCE AND INTONATION and NOT like I'm just reading off a random list of numbers and letters (which is undoubtedly what it DID turn out as, but hey, failure to succeed in my goal does not mean the attempt was any less frustrating. If anything it just makes it more so. (Lol)).
A very rewarding and greatly enjoyable process as of yet, (still, fuck chapter 8. I love it, chapter 8 is awesome of course, but that recording experience, fuck that, am going to die on that hill, I will allow my frustration to win out there lol) and it continues to get better, though my voice struggles a little more the further I go. Fortunately the theater-kid-extrovert-neurodivergent personality and upbringing/background I have means I'm accustomed to projecting and using my diaphragm and breath better so I do not strain my voice so much- hence why I can speak and perform dialogue and narrative for multiple hours at a time without just flat out losing my voice lol
I will maybe post what tips I have, the things I've learned for this, because I can and why not
If I have the energy and motivation to properly edit and format them, and it's something the author is alright with, I may at a later date post the audio files I have created for the fic, but that is far from something I am going to promise currently
I just wanted to rant, vent, share my experience lol- and largely allow myself a proper outlet for the obsession before forcing myself to go to sleep, so as to prevent myself from "one-more-chaptering" myself to oblivion
