Legoshi and Jack are how I imagine trans men communicating with each other
Jack as a pubby
So I don't think we're supposed to think that deeply about the fact the dog breeds humans selectively bred exist in Beastars, and that dogs' "natural instincts" in Strike are playing catch and responding well to praise. Buuuuuuut if I were to try and explain away their existence in a way that (like the rest of the show) mirrors our human world, my headcanon is that there was a period of time that meant dogs were selectively bred into existence in that world.
The how is what I'm not sure on, but here are several possibilities I was considering:
.Canines were at one point very prejudiced even within their own species so became insanely inbred for that reason. However, given pure breeds are maintained without any animosity shown between breeds in the show, I highly doubt this one is the reason
.What I think is more likely is that another species selectively bred them instead. Maybe wolves posed a threat to one of the forest herbivore populations and so they aimed to lessen that threat through essentially divide and conquer tactics with selective breeding to forcefully ingrain obedience and placidity (with the exception being for dogs they would mold into loyal guards). Do you think that would mean mutts and dogs who try to actively undo some of that selective breeding would be seen as inherently deviant and / or violent in Beastars? Since the selective breeding was there to make dogs uniquely placid, so to push back against that is seen with inherently dissentious intent?
.The second one but a different carnivore species did it
Tonally, after seeing Jack in season 3 it fits. The question of what's "natural" for selectively bred dogs inherently feels a bit off compared to the other species whose counterparts are almost always in the wild in our universe.
Spolier warning for beastars don’t read it until you see it!! You have been warned!! I think we might got that sence from the manga where Jack is struggling and where Jack hears legoshi hole after opening his heart to him! That’s exactly the sence I needed to see in season three!! It’s similar to the manga but a bit different!
