Random Finch Family Headcanons
This is just my interpretation of the characters and things that just make sense to me. You may have a different interpretation, just please be kind. If you disagree with any of these, feel free to let me know and explain why :) I love to discuss things like this
First off, JEM IS NOT DEAD
Second, ATTICUS IS NOT PART OF THE KKK (or anything like it) FFS 😭
Jack and Caroline are both a bit fruity
And I can’t tell if Alexandra is Straight™ or an extremely closeted lesbian
Jack got Rose Aylmer after Jean died
He talks to her like he talked to his sister-in-law
idk if this is canon but sometimes he calls her Rosie
Sometimes he also calls her Jean (usually an accident, but it also happens when he is really drunk)
Jean Graham was a wild child
she had somewhat frizzy hair that she would wear wild until she became a little older (but even then, she would really only put any effort into her appearance when she was going out and about)
She wore dresses that were too short and kept her blonde hair long
Most of the time she would tie the side pieces back so that it would be somewhat out of her face
Atticus' favorite was when her hair was all crazy and she had a wild grin on her face
That look would usually occur after she finished playing with Jem and/or Scout
It always reminded him of when he had first met her in Montgomery
Jean was the one that came up with Scout's infamous nickname
Jem is very emotional, despite the fact that he has a lot of patience and a relatively calm persona
He also has a bit of depression (but nothing severe)
He names his daughter after his mother
Atticus had one "girlfriend" when he was a teenager
She was a few years older than him and he lost his virginity to her
After it didn't really work out, he wasn't really in a relationship with anyone until he met Jean
He still talks to his late wife ALL the time
Whenever he does her calls her Jeannie
Just like how Jack talks to Rose, Atticus will talk to photographs and little trinkets that once belonged to his wife
He has a picture of her in the watch she gave him
Jean would call Atticus "baby" all the time when they first got together, which he loathed, but now he misses it a lot
Atticus and Jack are very stylish
That being said they are also very picky about what they wear
The Finch siblings get together a few times every year
Despite the fact that Jack and Caroline make Alexandra go absolutely feral, she looks forward to it every time
When they were little, Alexandra would sing to Caroline while she braided her hair for her
Jem keeps a picture of his mother on his nightstand next to his bed
Scout and Dill don't end up together but they still write each other whenever they are able
Jem doesn't grow to be quite as tall as Atticus, but he is taller than Jack
Jack almost never gets short-man syndrome despite the fact that Scout and Caroline tease him about it often
He is the shortest of the four Finch siblings
Atticus still makes a point to have his kids visit with Jeans family as often as they can
They tell Scout and Jem stories of Jean when she was their age
Once Scout got to be a little older, she was gifted one of her mothers old dresses
She stayed composed while receiving the gift, but Atticus later found her crying in the bathroom
Jem has one daughter and she calls Atticus by his name, and calls her great uncle "Jackie"
At first Jack despises it but it grows on him quickly
Jack is very emotional by nature but has grown a lot more apathetic due to age and being alone for so long
He moves back to Maycomb not long after the Tom Robinson trial
He retired at an early age and now he spends all his time reading and tending to Rose
There are so many more, but I just needed to get this out of my system because for some reason I have been obsessed with the Finches lately lol. I also want to do more with Jean and Atticus because I just love them so much and their story makes me so sad :(
