Jack checks his phone between patients, expecting something routine—labs, a message, maybe a consult. Then the image loads. He stills.

It’s brief, controlled, but his thumb pauses against the screen as his brain catches up. A quiet breath slips out through his nose, expression tightening for just a second before smoothing back into something neutral.

“…That’s unfortunate timing,” he mutters under his breath. His eyes lift automatically, scanning the department—and it doesn’t take long to find her.

Igraine. Across the floor. Completely unaware.

Jack watches her for a second, weighing it, then locks his phone and moves, cutting through the ED like it’s just another task. When he reaches her, he doesn’t make a scene—just steps in close enough that his voice doesn’t carry.

“You might want to check your last message,” he says quietly, tone even, not unkind, but deliberate. “Pretty sure that wasn’t meant for me. Not to spur a visit to HR, I hope he appreciates what he's got."
