Bob Dole’s passing reminded me of his run for president in 1996. I checked and amazingly, the website is still up 25 years later. Mostly dead links but an interesting snapshot from the early web.
A group of Republicans tried to stymie what they alleged was a nefarious homosexual network within the campaign of their own party’s standard-bearer. More than 40 years later, the story can finally be told.
Jack Kemp (1935-2009) Physique: Average Build Height: 6′ 1″ (1.85 m)
Jack French Kemp was an American politician and a professional player in both American football and Canadian football. A member of the Republican Party from New York, he served as Housing Secretary in the administration of President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. He was the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee in the 1996 election, as the running mate of presidential nominee Bob Dole. Kemp had previously contended for the presidential nomination in the 1988 Republican primaries.
Damn Jack was handsome. I know he played quarterback in the NFL, but I bet he would have been a hell of a tight-end if you get my meaning. Now that I think about it, that 1996 Republican ticket could have caught a dick from me.
Bills fans got some relief this weekend with the AFC East bye meaning no humiliating loss on Sunday. For those Bills fans old enough to remember, it's feeling a lot like the late 60s for the team (actually, it's felt like the late 60s for the last 20 years for the Bills). Those were dark days, but there were still stars on the team, including future Congressman and Vice-Presidential candidate Jack Kemp at quarterback, and the always-sturdy Ron McDole anchoring the defensive line. Plus the coaching staff had those nifty matching outfits! Relive those historic days with these Buffalo Bills gameday programs, direct from the mighty War Memorial Stadium in downtown Buffalo, available via the Newmanology Archives sale on eBay.
