(WIP) Where Your Eyes Don't Go - TMBG demo animation
The way I animate is very chaotic so I do not blame anyone who is confused by what's happening or the order of events. I will write a brief explanation below! I just wanted to show off the work I've done on this animation so far
(explanation below)
scene 1: Katy (William Clarke) at Matt's house party. She's making her way through the crowd before catching a glimpse of herself in a hallway mirror. Hands begin to pull at her face, a call back to the first moments you spend in Who's Lila where you train your expression in the mirror. She calms herself before the glass suddenly shatters! Something has changed. She stands in the same hallway, now "alone" before she turns to see The Stranger standing in the hallway as well. She tries to make sense of the scene before The Stranger begins turning to face Katy
scene 2: [no any specific moment in the story, just a simple animation to show the juxtaposition between the lively town and the isolation of The Forest]
scene 3: Ma-san (Detective Yu) pulls away the frame, revealing it to be a card from the tarot deck. She offers "Katy" another card and tells Rammy (Lila) she's "free to come and go", not wanting to entertain Rammy's little puppetry act. Though Rammy's body cannot be seen (she's in full control of Katy's body), her head reveals itself like a Cheshire cat while she lips syncs "But there's a pair of eyes in back of your head!"
scene 1 cont.: Katy stands in shock, unable to process what she's looking at while the shape of a Yantra spins behind her. The Stranger brings its paws up, resting one on its cheek. (this part got messed up so it out of frame by accident) it blinks, as if to snap Katy back to reality.
scene 4: Katy snaps out of her momentary trance. Her eyes dart around the room when she realizes she's found herself back in a "Club Meeting" with Jack Smash (Father Lawrence). The camera zooms out, revealing Jack ranting and raving while the rest of the Club (Fraternity) hang on every word. He continues his speech, coming up close to the camera as the line "-because it's always waiting where your eyes don't go?" is said.
[THIS FOLLOWS THE ROUTE WHERE MICHAEL PUSHES WILL OFF THE ROOF]
scene 5: leaving the meeting, it's now December 3rd. The day of the police interviewing Lammy's (Tanya Kennedy) close friends in hopes of gaining information on her disappearance. Katy (piloted by Rammy) heads up the school stairs towards the roof in search of Sunny (Martha Jennings). Finding Sunny alone after her police interview, she begins to threaten information out of Sunny regarding what Sunny told the police before Joe Chin (Michael Graves) interrupts their conversation. Quickly changing her attitude, Katy begins to taunt Joe Chin while Martha sits by and watches. Joe, initially trying to find common ground with Katy over Lammy's disappearance, quickly gives into his anger. While Katy has her back turned, Joe comes from behind and pushes her over the railing.
scene 5 cont.: Katy falls against a background of changing tarot cards, each one coinciding with an ending in Who's Lila.
scene 6: In reference to both Father Lawrence's appearance in the phone call facilitated by the DAEMON tool and the Emperors appearance in the Emperor Reversed ending. First appears Jack Smash, lip syncing to "Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah. He is then quickly followed by Thunder Bunny (The Emperor) who finished the line "Someone's in the kitchen I know-o-o-o". It's not a direct cut from Katy's fall to the Emperor Reversed ending. It's just a fun visual.
Some (in progress) reference slides I made to help keep track of character swaps and personal history! i did use a lot of the pre-written character descriptions from the Fandom Wiki (MASSIVE THANKS TO THE WHOS LILA WIKI TEAM!!!!)
a collection of early story planning sketches! some of these are no longer canon to the au (ex: Katy takes the place of Will now instead of Lammy) but I think the messy notes and scribbled out scenes are fun to look back on. pretty sure these are from September of last year if that matters
