My Thoughts on the Trollhunters Book (so far)
I haven’t finished it yet so. no spoilers. these are some things I found interesting
I find it really interesting how individually freaky trolls are. like. they all look so different, the Trollhunters show had different races of troll but trollmarket in the book is SO much more diverse
the trollhunter is ACTUALLY a hunter of trolls. in the show the role was like, sort of he hunts trolls sometimes but are gnomes and goblins really trolls? and all previous trollhunters were trolls
TROLLHUNTERS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HUMAN. this makes a lot more sense for me. why would Merlin randomly give trolls a weapon when he was working for Arthur and siding with humans so consistently before- and CLEARLY not appreciating trolls in the present?? even if Merlin isn’t involved here at all (I’m only halfway through what I think is the first book) it just makes more sense.
back to my thing about trolls being freaky as fuck there is actually a long-term need for trollhunters in the book outside of Merlin’s war against his former assistant. the trollhunter exists because trolls and humans CANT always coexist because they hurt each other:
nullhullers and rust trolls: rust trolls poison the elderly (not something they can stop doing, they’re NATURALLY hazardous) and nullbringers kidnap children. these trolls cannot coexist, so the trollhunter has to kill them and BURN THEIR GALLBLADDERS
I like that there isn’t any mention of the Pale Lady, and the cult is instead centred on Gumnar the Black- “The Hungry One” because why would trolls worship a human? I mean, sure, Morgana was powerful as fuck but trolls don’t LIKE humans except as a tasty snack. Also I’m like.. 70% sure Gunmar is older than the Pale Lady in the show so?? why would he take orders from her?? he was a grown troll before her parents were even a single cell.

Strickler doesn’t exist and is replaced by a cultist fanatic who works at the museum. I appreciate the skin picking disorder rep but he kinda freaks me out..
I like Jack. I was very confused by why he was stuck as a 13 year old until he brought up aging in the sun. which. still doesn’t really explain it. is the troll underworld a different dimension? is Blinky feeding Jack something to keep him young? is the trollhunter amulet involved in this somehow? maybe the troll underworld is just magic? is this where they keep the babies the nullhullers steal? I feel like trollmarket wouldn’t be chill with that but I could be wrong. anyways. Jack is very cool. I like that he made his own armor and it’s really funny how he’s afraid of carpet. I tried to find fanart of him but almost all of it was genderswapped and I was like “huh I wonder why that is does something happen to him later in the book?” and then I realised that almost all of the (beautiful, by the way, and very accurate to book descriptions) fanart I saw of this Jackie was by the same person LMFAOO keep it up man. I’ll read your fanfiction one of these days. not tagging because I forgot your name but you’ll probably find this
Jim Sturges Jr is a COWARDDD. In the show the amulet follows him around but I think him getting repeatedly kidnapped by his 13 yr old uncle Jack and Co. (Blinky + AAARGH!!!) is funnier.
he lives with his dad instead of his mom but I don’t wanna talk about what the trolls do to him because it upsets me
