JACK TWIST, ELWOOD DALTON, DAVID LOKI, accidentally hitting their boyfriend in the face
male reader, use of 'doll'/'hon' or sum i forgot, broken noses, bleeding, yelling, worry turns into worried anger, jack twist is a switch, nothing to do with the fic, just saying, i have no knowledge on how wind words, foldable chairs are not to be used as weapons, everyone was holding something, on elwoods bit reader doesn't know elwood after retirement if that makes sense, not proofread, ever
JACK TWIST
— it happened when he needed you to help move the horses gear, and some of the fishing equipment to a different place since it was getting a bit colder and he didn't want the wind blowing out any fire or accidentally making it bigger than it needs to be
— he was trying to move one of the chairs and was talking to you but wasn't really able to see where you were since he was in a bit of a rush.
"yeah and that son of'a bitch don'—" the chair hit you smack dab in your face, most of it hitting your eyelid area.
the only noise he heard was the tiny 'ow!' and your hat hitting the ground.
— trying to get your hand off your eye, and saying sorry hoping you weren't absolutely pissed at him just for you to constantly say it's fine, and you were fine, and he didn't need to worry about it.
— he does not let that happen.
"c'mere.." he sat you down, finding a first aid which he was lucky he remembered he packed it. "shit doll it's swollen." his accent got thicker with worry while trying to take more of a look at it.
"it is? oh, that's okay i can–" "hush it." "okay."
ELWOOD DALTON
before retirement
— do not come up behind this man when he's stressed.
— probably has a little area like a basement he goes to train below or let off some steam. you were coming down to let him know that the food was ready but he was too drowned out to really hear you.
"el!" you tapped him, biggest mistake. he freaked out and punched you in the face thinking you were some robber or something.
— only freaks out even more, muttering a bunch of curses and saying sorry a shit load.
"move your hand i broke your fuckin' nose!" "no, no, it's okay i'll walk it off—" "move your damn hand!"
after retirement
— you worked in the bar and he was helping out clean the rest of the mess after cleaning out the guys who had messed it up in the first place.
— he was moving a bit of the tables and chairs and while doing that you came up behind him, unfortunately while he had been moving a table and it hit your face making you fall over.
"oh, my god i just hit you in your face, are you okay?!" he set the table down instantly just to see you shaking your head trying to get up on your own.
"it's alright, no issues!" "you're bleeding!"
DAVID LOKI
— poor guy, feels bad even after whether he shows it or not.
— got forced to move around some stuff cause some guy got fired and he needed help getting his desk cleaned out. for one , he was already mad , for two he was about to get even angrier and he did not have the time for that.
— was moving around some sort of box and you came out of absolutely nowhere.
"hey davi- loki, sorry, do you have the files for– ah!" "what the fuck..? oh, what the fuck!"
— took him a bit to realize, he forgot about moving the stuff and instantly came to your aid. was worried without the blood, got even more worried with the blood.
"shit, shit, shit.." "is it bleeding?" he had pulled you up to get you some sort of aid and wipe off the blood. could care less if you were fine, you were his boyfriend and he didn't want you to just be bleeding cause of him, accident or not.
— let you take about a five minute break before he had to get back to work.
"be careful next time, alright?" he kissed your forehead, patting your cheek very lightly. "m'kay, see you at home."

Out where you grew up, Halloween came and went like dry wind over the prairie. No costumes, no tricks—just dirt roads, early nights, and horses steaming in the cold. Folks cared about keeping the lights on, not carving pumpkins. And if you ever did carve one, it rotted quiet on the porch before November came.
You’d grown out of Halloween before you’d ever won your first rodeo.
You should have known that once your old buddy Jack found out—a slip-up over the drag of a cigarette—you’d never hear the end of it.
Especially not now that the carnival had rolled back into town.
“You,” Jack simpered, molasses grin easy on his lips. He leaned in your doorway like it was built for him. “Are comin’ with me.”
He held up two white wristbands, mischief shimmering like whiskey behind his eyes.
“Jack…” you started, scrubbing work-worn hands over your face. Stubble was starting to scratch at your palms.
“Ah-ah. It’s Halloween!” He hooked his fingers around your wrist like it was the easiest thing. “Grab your boots, cowboy. We’re goin’.”
“I gotta get up early,” you grumbled, already bending to put on your work boots—your only pair. “You should’a told me you were comin’.”
“You’d’ve just said no,” Jack grinned, grabbing your hat from its hook and palming it onto your head. “I’’ll get ya home safe in good time. Please?”
Jack was worse than a kid, with all his restless energy and puppy-dog grin. You—despite everything—had never figured out how to say no to him.
Not even after the years spent side by side in dusty arenas and rodeo chutes.
“…Fine.”

When you rolled up to the fairgrounds in Jack’s green pickup, you could smell the hustle and bustle from your cracked window. The sway of hay-dust sweetened the air with kettle corn and candied apples.
Strings of orange-purple lights looped along the fence posts, dancing against the setting prairie sky. The Ferris wheel turned lazy in the distance, bulbs flickering like fireflies.
“You ready?” Jack grinned, the mole above his lip catching against the gold sunset. His fingers drummed restless against the steering wheel. He knew you needed a beat to brace yourself before crowds like this.
You let out a tired sigh, smiling soft. “Yeah, alright.”
He was giddy the whole walk inside, tossing off little jokes as his broad shoulders bumped against yours. His head whipped back and forth, watching the carnival with eyes sparkling like a kid’s.
“It’s just like when I was a kid, really! Oh, man… I still can’t believe it’s just the same!”
He gazed back down at you, with that same awestruck look.
Like he couldn’t believe you were here, either.
You shook your head, grinning despite yourself. “Oh, yeah?”
Jack looked like he was trying not to jump up and whoop, he seemed so happy. Bursting at the seams.
“Oh yeah, bud.”
You hmphed, a lot more quiet in your contentment than he ever was. You looked down to pull out a crumpled pack of Kools, and you noticed Jack’s rodeo belt buckle gleaming in the honeyed light. You hadn't come to see him ride, not in a long while, not since…
…not since the night under the stands, four months ago, when everything changed. When you kissed him like you were desperate, drowning, dying—trying to pull him inside of you—and he kissed back like he’d been waiting for it all along.
“C’mon,” Jack said, suddenly tugging you by the wrist toward the game stalls. “Bet I can win you somethin’.”
“Last time you said that, you damn near busted your shoulder throwin’ horseshoes.”
He smirked, already digging a few shiny coins from his pocket. “Different game.” He pointed to the ring toss. “This one’s all skill.”
“Sure it is.”
Three tries later, the bottle still sat smugly untoppled, and Jack’s cocky grin had wilted into a scowl. He leaned on his hands against the stall, powder-blue eyes on fire with that stubborn determination.
You bit down on a laugh at the absurdity of it, of him—until his gaze cut sharp at you, making you cough out a chuckle.
“Hell with it,” he muttered, tossing the man another quarter. “Ain’t leavin’ ‘til I win my boy a prize.”
He did, finally; an ugly little stuffed bat with crooked wings. Jack held it out like it was pure gold, eyes crinkled with triumph.
“Aha! See? Told ya.”
You stuffed the ugly thing in your jacket pocket, looking down at the gravel so you didn’t have to look into Jack’s eyes.
You couldn’t have him see how your chest went tight when he smiled at you like that.
You opened your mouth to speak, but the thin layer of hay-dust kept you from saying anything. It was like rope, frayed and ragged in your throat.
“Hey,” Jack covered for you. “There’s a haunted house, down ‘ere.”
“Yeah,” you gulped. “Yeah, okay.”
The haunted house was nothing more than an old shack, painted over with drooping ghosts and half-washed pumpkins. You couldn’t tell if the sign on the door was misspelled or just written that badly. Fake spider webs were slung over the top, though it looked like the type of place you’d find cobwebs just as real.
Two little boys tore out the back, screaming and laughing. The sun was just dipping under the grass, casting the sky in rivers of purple; the end of dusk devouring daylight.
“You think there’s ghosts in there?” You asked, your voice lighter than usual.
“Pfft. Says haunted, don’t it?” Jack swaggered his way up to the door, all bravado, the same way he was when he was walking up to ride saddle bronc. “Try not to scare yourself to death.”
“Speak for yourself,” you murmured, pushing past him to walk inside.
Jack caught up to you past the entryway, and it wasn’t so bad save for the fact it was so dark you could hardly see for anything.
Jack hovered just near you, his shoulder bumping yours.
“Sure you ain’t scared, cowboy?”
“Aw, hell,” you heard Jack try to play it off, but you remembered how he hated the dark; how it got to him. It made him feel small and alone in a way he’d never admit. “If anythin’s gonna spook me, it ain’t gonna be no—Shit!”
A man in a cheap wolf mask lunged out, growling. Jack yelped and grabbed your wrist, jumping like a startled horse. His fingers locked around your sleeve like a lifeline.
The jump faded quick, embarrassment settling in its place. Jack’s ears burned pink as his grip eased.
But he didn’t let go.
“...What was that about spookin’ you?” You grinned. You couldn’t help yourself.
You heard Jack chuckle, his breath right by your ear. “Don’t you say a word.”
His hand stayed on your wrist as you led the way through the narrow halls. He jumped at every cheap skeleton and fog machine, and your laughter grew louder with each one. By the end, the two of you were laughing so hard you were stumbling over each other, tears springing from your eyes as you doubled over, breathless.
—
It was nearly midnight when the crowds thinned and the music faded. The stars were shining like someone had punched out holes of the night and let heaven bleed through.
You were walking from the midway back to Jack’s pickup, candied apple half-eaten in your hand. You made a mental note to pay him back that nickel—though he’d never take it.
“I got one more thing…” Jack said, grin turning sly.
“Mmm?”
He produced a small pumpkin out of seemingly nowhere, holding the thing in his palms and grinning like a thief.
“Jack Twist, you stole that.” You never liked the idea of stealing—but you weren’t a rat either.
“Borrowed!” Jack corrected, swinging himself over into the bed of his truck. “We’ll return it… Carved.”
You climbed up after him, pulling your legs over the side and sitting beside him.
“You’re looney.”
But Jack just smiled, flicking open his pocketknife and wedging a flashlight between his teeth. He held the knife out to you, handle first.
“I’ll hold the light,” he said around the flashlight. “But I get a turn, too.”
You carved the pumpkin together; clumsy and crooked, jagged eyes and lopsided teeth, laughing so hard at the mess of it that your sides hurt.
When Jack set the candle inside, the glow washed over his face in soft gold. He looked like something holy; his eyes glimmering like cathedral windows, those eyelashes casting church shadows down his cheeks.
You had to look away.
One more second of that gold light on his face and the cord in your chest would’ve split clean in two.
“You know…” he murmured after a spell, “I’m awful glad you came along. Ain’t seen you much since the rodeos.”
You didn’t speak for a long while, flicking Jack’s pocketknife open and shut, open and shut.
“Been busy.”
Jack’s hand brushed yours, stilling there. Impossibly warm against your cold knuckles.
“You’re doin’ it again,” Jack breathed. “Runnin’.”
“I’m not.”
He leaned in, close enough that the pumpkin glow climbed his cheekbones. “Then stop.”
And for the first time in a long time, you did.
Jack stared into you with that aching, desperate look in his eyes, getting so close your noses brushed. “God…”
“Mmm…?”
He didn’t speak. Just brought his hand up, slow, to cup your face. You didn’t realize you were trembling until he made you still.
You made no move to touch him back, not yet, but you didn’t pull away either. Just let your breath meet his in the cold air.
“Please,” you prayed, soft and low.
Jack kissed you slow. Careful. Like the first time under the bleachers, like he’d been carrying it in his pocket—waiting for you to reach for it again. His hand slid to the back of your neck, and your world tipped quiet and warm and gold.
“Jack—” you breathed out against his lips, but he shook his head quickly.
“I ain’t askin’ for forever.” His voice was low, careful. “Just… tonight. Just give me tonight.”
That was all Jack could get out before you were tugging him by his shirt collar, making him practically fall on top of you. His mouth was already moving against yours, his hands grabbing at your shoulders, your neck.
“Oh, God…” you panted, kissing him so hard you thought your nose would break.
When he pulled back, you both just laid there in the bed of Jack’s truck, huffing and breathing in each other’s arms.
After a long beat, Jack murmured, “I feel like I could paw the white outta the moon, when we’re…”
You sat up, looking up into the black sky.
“That’s just a feeling, I reckon. The moon’s still white. We’re still—”
Jack wrapped his arms around your shoulders, holding you to his chest.
“Don’t you go runnin’ from me yet.”
You didn’t. Not yet, anyway.

The truck rumbled against the road, one of Jack’s hands steady on the wheel. The other rested easy on your knee, his thumb sweeping back and forth over your old Levi’s.
You didn’t return the pumpkin. It flickered in the floorboard, its hollow heart filled with fire.
You let your head droop against the window, your eyes fluttering shut to the gentle sound of Jack’s breathing.

FIC PLAYLIST : american honey - current joys
"I miss you like American honey
You taste so sweet
But there's always something
Like a tragedy
That's constantly coming
And it sticks to me
So I stick to nothing"
The job on Brokeback was simple. Joe Aguirre was paying you to heard his sheep and chase off coyotes.
You thought you'd be working alone until you saw that other cowboy standing in Aguirre's office. Dark hair ruffled from a black medium brim paired with big blue doe eyes and unfairly long lashes. He had nearly immediately introduced himself as Jack Twist. Him being there kinda pissed you off though. You didn't need help. And the more hands on the ranch meant money being split.
In a lot of ways, in almost every way, Jack was different from you. He was quick to sass back, laugh, and cause a ruckus just for the fun of it. Despite your initial irritation, you found yourself drawn to him like a honey bee to a fresh flower.
The days on Brokeback dragged into weeks, weeks into months, and you couldn't stop yourself from noticing things. Noticing him. His fingers lingered on yours when you passed a bottle of whiskey or a box of smokes. His eyes followed you when you paced around camp. His attention bothered you at first, every glance of his crawled under your skin. Not because he made you uncomfortable, but because well, because his attention didn't make you uncomfortable. That feeling scared you, the one that made you unexplainably warm, the one you so desperately tried to crush. But Jack Twist made that more than hard to do.
You weren't supposed to be feeling this way. Not for Jack Twist. Not for any man. It was wrong. All wrong. Right?
The aching though brought itself to a fever pitch one night though. Cold, drunk, and laughing at Jack trying to play that damn harmonica. You did something you never thought you would. Exchanging elicit touches, shared gasps against slick lips, a raging longing you didn't know how to express with words. You passed out drunk afterwards, drunk off whiskey and him.
For days after you willed yourself to forget. You'd tell yourself it was just a wet dream. You'd been too long without a woman. Jack didn't push you for the first few days, but he couldn't stand it when you flat out started avoiding him.
You were in the canvas tent. That damn tent. Jack had shed his hat and boots, watching you situate your bedroll with pinched brows.
"Tell me you regret it." You clenched your jaw at that. He sounded hurt. "Tell me that it meant nothin', and I won't ever bring it up again."
Turning your head to look at him, you knew immediately you were trapped. You couldn't push him away now, not when he was giving you those effortlessly adoring puppy eyes.
Shaking your head, you turned away from him and started unfolding a small wool blanket for yourself. Keep your hands busy. Look anywhere but at those damn baby blues. "Y'know I can't tell you that, Jack."
There was a few seconds of silence after your words. Jack sat there on his knees, his eyes never leaving your face as you focused on fixing up that blanket.
Those long lashes the color of readied wheat fluttered once. Twice. Then slowly, the most careful movements you've ever seen from this sporadic cowboy, he lifted his hand and brushed the back of his fingers along your jawline. The same way he had that night when everything you've ever known about yourself went to hell.
Jacks voice was quiet now. Quieter than you've ever heard it yet. Not the playful tone during breakfast or the cocky tone on horseback-just soft. Raw as an open wound. "Then tell me what it meant."
You didn't want to, but you looked over at him again, and your heart damn near melted. He had leaned closer, not invading your space, just being close. His big blue puppy eyes were a little droopy but completely fixated on you with such concern and affection it almost scared you. How could someone hand over there heart so fully? Jacks lips were turned down into a soft pout, maybe one he didn't even realize he was making.
Your throat felt like sandpaper. Like the ends of a fraying rope. If it had been anyone else asking you this? Asking you to rip open your chest and let them nestle into your heart? You would've ran. Hell, you wouldn't even have let them get this close in the first place. But Jack? He acted like he already lived in your heart. He acted like he already knew every nook and cranny, like it was home.
"Damn it, Twist." You muttered through a tight throat. "You make me question everythin' I ever been raised up on, and I don't understand how okay I am with that."
Jack didn't say anything. Just listened. You were really spilling your guts now.
"That night. It means I don't understand." You spoke quietly in a rough whisper, like if you didn't get the words out now you might never. "It means I don't understand why I feel the way I do about you, Jack. I look at you and I see my future. Fuck it, boy, I see forever."
Jacks eyes-fuck, those eyes-widened like the sky had just cracked open above the both of you.
For a terrifying few seconds, Jack just stared at you, like those words were something sacred he'd only dared hope to hear from you.
Fast but careful, like you might vanish if he rushed too hard, Jack closed that small space between you and cupped your face with both hands now, rough thumbs brushing over the bone of your cheeks, and kissed you. The first time since that night. But it was so different.
Not desperate. Not needy. Just soft. So damn soft. Like a prayer whispered against lips instead of said aloud. A kiss full of months worth of longing finally finding its way home after getting lost for far too long.
That kiss, Jacks kiss, was the sweetest kiss you've ever had the blessing of sharing. When your lips broke apart from his, a gentle collapse of affection, you let out a soft breath that ghosted down his chin. "Jack.." You murmured under your breath. No reason. You just wanted to taste his name.
Jack rested his forehead against yours, his messy hair falling forward a little and brushing your skin. Warm breath mingling, noses nuzzling, and for a long moment, he just breathed you in. It was like he was memorizing the feel of your skin under his palms, the scent of your hair mixed with mountain air and leather.
Then finally, his voice breathed out list morning mist over a gentle tide:
"I love you."
No grand gesture. No cocky grin. Just three words dropped into your lap like an anchor hitting calm water.
The moment those three words left Jacks lips, you felt an uncomfortable weight crawl from your chest and settle in your stomach. You couldn't label it, not yet anyway, but it was undeniably there.
Your face fell, not from dread, but from defeat. Defeat of every rigid rule and brick you had built your life on. Love?
Shaking your head in his hands, you blinked your eyes shut as Jack peppered soft kisses across your face, his warm lips slowly dragging against your skin. Each kiss burned now like the lick of a flame.
"You can't love me." You whispered out, that weight in your stomach starting to grow. "You can't.. You don't mean that, Jack. You can't love me."
Jack pulled back just enough to really look at you, his hands still cradling your face, thumbs gently wiping the corners of your eyes like he could catch sadness before it fell.
His thick brows knit together, not with anger, but with heartbreak. The kind that comes from hearing someone sacred say something so painfully wrong about themselves that it ached to listen.
Without a word, Jack kissed you again, firm this time. Not hungry, but certain. A kiss meant to silence every doubt that wanted to slip passed your lips.
"Don't tell me what I feel." Jack finally spoke, his voice low but steady. "I've loved harder than most, and I ain't ever loved nobody more than you."
A beat passed. Then another. The tent so damn quiet the only sound was your shared breathing under canvas walls surrounded by trees.
Jacks confession was so simple, but it sure as hell rooted inside you. It settled deep in your chest, worming its way through your ribs and holding tight.
Slowly, so slowly, you leaned forward. Dropping your forehead against his firm shoulder, your hands rested on his waist where he sat right in front of you.
It was rare to you, if ever in your life, to put your walls down. To rely on someone else and trust someone else, but Jack made you want to.
Jack made it safe for you to.
He felt the exact moment your body gave in-when all that quiet strength and guarded tension finally crumbled into something softer, smaller, trusting.
For a cowboy who'd spent most of his life charming smiles out of people, teasing to get by, flirting because it was easy-this? This silent surrender from you? This was what he wanted.
Without thinking, Jack wrapped both arms around your shoulders and pulled your body closer. Tight. From then on he wanted to shield you from every harsh word ever spoken against a love like yours.
One of his big hands slid up to cradle the back of your head to his shoulder, and there in the quiet embrace he pressed kiss after kiss into your hair. Soft ones on your crown.. Then another along your temple.. Then just below where tears would fall if they dared show up tonight.
No more words. Just warmth. Just this. Just holding each other like this was home.
And maybe you'd learn it finally was.
AUUUURRR this was pretty long thanks for readin!!😊😊💙💙

Blue Boys
Synopsis: Joe Aguirre gives Jack another chance at Brokeback, with a worker he's sure won't tempt him. His mistake.
The day before Jack came back to Aguirre to ask for a job, you had stopped by. You'd introduced yourself, told him that you weren't the most experienced but you did have some experience with sheep and that you would settle for half the normal rate for the season. That perked his ears and he told you to come back tomorrow, at the same time. There should be others looking for work and he'd find you a partner. You thanked him and shook his hand. As you walked out, he looked you over. You'd introduced yourself and carried yourself like a young man, but he could see right through you. And if that was true, maybe he'd be able to use Jack Twist again after all.
Like clock work, you arrived 10 minutes before he expected you. You parked your beat up Dodge Power Wagon and stepped out to light a cigarette. Another truck pulled in not five minutes after you did. A man stepped out, black hat and brown jacket. He parked next to you and nodded.
“Mornin’.”
“Mornin’.”
“Aguirre in there?”
“I hope so, he told me to come back today.”
“You ain't knock?”
“I'm early, didn't wanna bother ‘em.”
The man nodded, looked you over and headed up to the door, knocking. He must have heard something because he went inside. You were unsure if you should follow so you stayed by your truck, finishing your cigarette.
Inside the trailer Aguirre looked at the man in front of him, and decided whether or not to give him another chance.
“Have you got any work you could use me for?” Jack asked, hat between his hands.
“That depends son.”
“On.”
“On if you can follow directions this go around. Last time you worked for me we had a record loss in profits. In all my years we never lost so many damn sheep in one season. And we had to cut y'all early.”
“I apologize sir.”
“Yeah? Well you can't put those in the bank. Now I'm gonna ask you one question. You speak to that young man outside?”
“Yes sir.”
“What'd you think of ‘em?”
“He's a bit small, not sure if this line of work is where he'd be most useful.”
“That it?”
“I'm not sure I know what you mean, sir.”
“Boy, I think you know exactly what I mean.”
He let that sentence hang in the silence. Jack kept a calm face but was itching to turn tail and leave, work be damned.
“Your buddy from last year ain't been around. If you want work from me, you will work with that boy outside or not at all. And he's a bit green so you're really gonna have to pull your weight.”
“I can do that sir.”
“Well then, call him in here.”
Jack leaned out the door and whistled. You stubbed your cigarette out and joined him inside. You saw he'd taken his hat off and did the same.
“You two, starting tomorrow, will be back here no later than 5 am. We're a bit early this season and that may help us avoid some not so ideal weather. You, young man, will follow his lead.” He pointed at you, before looking at Jack. “Mr. Twist here has worked for me before. He knows exactly what I expect to see, and exactly what I do not want to see. Right, Jack?”
The man next to you nodded, keeping his eyes on the floor in front of him.
“Once we all get you and the flock up the mountain, y'all will remain there until the end of the summer. You will have supplies dropped off every few weeks, so plan accordingly. Jack, you can tell him about what to expect.”
“Yes sir.”
“You two get out my office and meet me back here, tomorrow morning.”
“Thank you sir.” You both said, exiting the trailer.
You left first and held the door for the man, Jack, behind you. He nodded his thanks.
“So, you done this before?” You asked, stopping at your truck bed to light another cigarette.
“Yeah, last summer. You ever been to the mountains before?”
“No, I'm not from around here. My family is in Oklahoma.” You stuck out your pack, offering him a cigarette. He accepted it and leaned on your truck. He lit it with his own lighter before exhaling and looking you over.
“You’re a far ways from home. What brings you to Wyoming?”
“I uh, had to leave home. Just started driving one day, ended up here.”
“Sorry to hear that.”
“It's alright, I don't wanna stay somewhere I'm not wanted, you know what I mean?”
“I hear that, partner.”
You both smoked in silence, watching the odd car go by. After finishing, you both toss your cigarette butts and turn to one another.
“I'll be seeing ya around.” You stuck out your hand.
“Back at you, pal.”
You got in your truck and took off. Jack took his time getting back into his. There was something about you, he couldn't place his finger on it. He was upset that Ennis hadn't been back, but at least he found some work.
The journey up the mountain wasn't so bad. You'd offered to be the one who left in the dog tent at night with the flock. Once up there you were able to show off your skills with a rifle and Jack was more than happy to stay at the camp this year. You were able to make it a whole month before Jack began to catch on.
There was a day the two of you were out hunting, and you had downed a decent sized deer. While you'd learned to hunt with your father before leaving home, you never learned how to clean the animal and butcher it. Luckily, Jack knew and he taught you. It was the best you'd eaten since being up there. In the supplies you'd brought up there was a large bag of salt and Jack knew how to preserve the meat from going bad. If you could catch something like this again in a few weeks , you'd be fine the whole summer.
After everything was cut and cleaned, you both were pretty dirty. So far you'd bathed on your own, but with the amount of mess, neither of you were going to take turns. Making it to the stream, you started walking out a bit further.
“Where you going?”
“Oh, just. Up here, I don't wanna be up in your space.”
“No worries here, come on, the quicker we wash the quicker we can warm up by the fire.”
He was already down to his drawers at this point. He tossed his pants and under shirt in the water and squatted down to rinse them off. You'd just realized you'd have to wait until everything was dry to get changed again.
“Hey uh, Jack.”
“Yeah.”
“I gotta tell you something.”
He was still preoccupied with his clothes and didn't look at you.
“Go on.”
You figured showing would be easier than trying to find the right words. You took your button up shirt off to reveal the bindings you kept on. He looked up at you after you didn't speak.
“Jesus, you get hurt or something?”
“No I, uh, I'm uncomfortable with my chest.”
“Honestly, the wraps look clean. You can keep 'em on if you want, just wash your arms good.”
“Alright.”
Maybe this guy was aloof enough that you wouldn't even have to tell him. You tossed your shirt in the water and unbuckled your belt. You tossed it over a branch and slid your jeans down your legs. You figured you could leave your boxers on if he was keeping his on. Of course, that's when he took his off, tossing them on top of his other clothes before washing himself up with his hands. As casually as you could, you turned away from him. Everything in your mind was saying standing nude with your back to a man you'd barely met a month ago was stupid, but you knew it would only be dangerous if he saw you from the front.
Jack was stealing glimpses of you from the corner of his eye. He could admit to himself you were a cute guy. Your cropped hair suited you well, you barely had a peach fuzz mustache but your side burns were decent. You had pretty eyes but Lord was your mouth his biggest distraction. You didn't talk much, he'd never thought he'd meet someone who made Ennis look talkative. Whenever you did talk, you always seemed nervous, and you'd bite or lick your lips. If you weren't so in your head, you probably would have noticed him staring at them as you spoke.
From his peripheral, he could make out your back, very toned but not that big. Your arms had gotten bigger since you'd been working. As you yourself squatted over your clothes, cleaning them against the rocks, he looked at your ass. He leered longer than he should have, and you caught him out of the corner of your eye. You stood up quickly, gathering your clothes.
“I'm gonna head back, add some more wood to the fire and see what we have left to eat with the venison.”
“Sounds good. I'm almost done here.”
As you walked off he watched and instantly felt like a fool.
Not every man is gonna fuck you, even if you're the only one around.
He finished with his clothes and started back towards camp. You'd hung your clothes up and left enough room on the branches by the fire for his clothes. You wrapped a blanket around your shoulders and we're currently sitting on the log, trying to warm up.
“You alright?”
“I'm good.” You stared straight ahead. He hung his clothes up before grabbing his blanket and sitting next to you.
“I didn't mean to spook you back there.”
“What do you mean? Everything is fine.”
“Alright.”
You both sat in silence, listening to the wind blow and the fire crackle.
“Why do you wear that chest wrap?” Jack asked after a long stretch of silence.
“I've always been insecure about it. It's more comfortable this way.”
“Do you keep it on all the time?”
“Not when I sleep, you could hurt yourself wearing it too long.”
“Hurt? Why wear it that tight? Is it really worth it? I'm sure your chest looks fine.”
“It makes me comfortable. Not much else does.”
“I wouldn't judge you, just so you know. If you're in pain you can take it off. If it makes you feel better I won't look.”
“I'll keep that in mind, thanks Jack.”
Your underwear was the first thing to dry, so you put your boxers back on and folded your blanket up before starting on dinner. It was freeing to feel comfortable in your bindings as you moved about camp. You felt like a real cowboy, in your boots and hat walking around camp. You reached into the supply bag and found a can of green beans.
“It's a change from baked.” You tossed Jack the can.
“I'll take it.”
He placed it on the edge of the fire, and you grabbed the skillet you had and a few pieces of the deer you'd caught. After setting that over the fire you sat back down.
“That was a great shot earlier. How long you been hunting?”
“Ever since I could walk my dad would take me with his buddies hunting. I was six when he first let me shoot anything. I got my first buck when I was seven.”
“Damn. Nice.”
“It was the most time we ever spent together. He was a military guy. Then when he came home he just worked all day. In a calendar year I probably spoke to him on 10 different occasions, but we always had our hunting trips.”
“You miss your family?”
You stared at the fire, your mind a hundred miles away.
“Every day.”
“You write ‘em?”
“No. They uh, made it very clear how they felt about me when I left.”
“People change, they might be missing you and not have any way to reach you.”
“I believe that people can change, but I consider myself a realist. That bridge burnt down the second I left that house.”
He put his hand on your knee.
“I'm sorry to hear that.”
“It's life. People come, they go. I've never felt so free until I lived on my own.”
“You staying anywhere?”
“No, I uh, I stay in my truck. I only left home last March. Not sure what my plans for the winter are. Hopefully I can find a room somewhere and save majority of the money I make from this.”
“If you want, my parents have a room they could rent you. I could talk to them about the price.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. When I'm not out finding work they let me stay in my old room. We've got a spare room. My mom's family used to visit sometimes, not as much lately. I'm sure she'd love some use for the room, help it not collect so much dust.”
“I would appreciate that. Thank you.”
His hand was still on your knee. As you talked you'd notice it moved slightly higher. You sat back. He retracted his hand immediately.
“Sorry. I thought -”
“You're fine Jack.”
“Really, I thought you also - and the offer still stands I wasn't trying to -”
“Jack. I really have to tell you something.”
He looked at you.
“The reason I got kicked out of my house is because of my lifestyle.”
His eyes widened, like he'd guessed something right.
“My last year living there, my mom wouldn't talk to me, she could barely stand to look at me. My dad had finally had enough, and told me no daughter of his would love under his roof as a son.”
Something in Jack's face changed. It wasn't exactly what he'd guessed.
“You're a girl?”
You sighed, and looked down.
“On paper. I've never really felt like one. I probably sound crazy to you.”
“I mean, you look like a boy. A pretty boy, but still…” He touched the side of your face, rubbing his thumb over your cheek bone.
“You're not mad?”
“What would I have to be mad at you about?”
“You seemed to think I was a man.”
“I still do. I don't care what you used to be, or were told you were. I met you when I did, I don’t see anything else.”
You gave him a smile, one he returned. For a moment you felt like this might actually work. But then the memory of his hand on your leg emerged.
“When you had your hand on my knee-”
“I'm sorry, I can be a bit forward.”
“You're not gonna find what you're looking for.”
“How do you know what I'm looking for?”
He started to lean in. You wanted this, needed this. You'd been with guys when you were still in school, but that was as a “girl”, to them at least. You hadn't even considered someone would want you the way you lived now, especially another man.
You met him half way, giving into this kiss. He had half pulled you into his lap when one of you knocked over something. That brought you back to what you were doing.
“We should finish this first.” You said, panting as you pulled back from the kiss.
“Yeah, of course.” Jack looked at you with wide, soft eyes.
You stood up and looked for something to flip the meat with while Jack located the can opener. You both ate in silence, stealing glances from one another. After finishing and cleaning up, Jack stood up. He looked at the horizon, figured there should be enough time for one of you to make it to the flock.
“You want me to keep watch tonight?”
“Jack, please don't start treating me differently.”
“You didn't even let me finish.”
You stood in front of him, arms crossed. He gave you a smirk and stepped closer.
“If you'd like to carry on from earlier, we could get warm in the tent here for a bit. I doubt you'd want to ride a horse up there after that.”
You blushed at that.
“I, uh, well I suppose. It's fair to take turns.”
“Yes, it is.”
In the camp tent, in the sleeping bag, the two of you kissed. His hand went to the waist band of the front of your boxers and you stopped him.
“What's wrong?” He pulled back to look at you.
“I don't um, can you not put your hands there?”
“Okay. If you're not comfortable.”
“No I, I want you Jack. But as a man.”
“I see.”
Instead of the front of your boxers, he pulled them down by the sides and tossed them to the side. He brought a hand to the side of your thigh and rubbed at the muscle there.
“You know, this work suits you. You've been getting stronger, I've noticed.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.” He slid his hand from your thigh to your ass, pulling you apart slightly before lowering his hand.
His pointer finger poked at your entrance. You tried to relax but we're unfamiliar with the feeling. Jack started to kiss you again before leaning back.
“I've been in your spot before, that first time is gonna hurt. I'm gonna be as gentle as possible, alright?”
You nodded, breathing shallowly. He removed his hand and gave you his other one, holding his pointer and middle finger to your mouth.
“Suck on these.”
You looked at him.
“Well, you're the one that wants to go the dry way, so this is what we got.”
You blushed at that. Parting your lips, you let him place his fingers on your tongue. You licked at them, sucked on them and did your best to get them wet. Jack watched in awe, enjoying the view in front of him. In the sleeping bag, the position you two were in, his dick accidentally brushed against your front, and he was surprised to feel how excited you were, just from this.
Deciding they were wet enough, he took his fingers back and placed the pointer finger at your hole, circling slowly as you tried to relax. He pressed in lightly and you tensed up immediately.
“Sorry.”
“You're fine, just breathe.”
You did so and he managed to get a knuckle deep. He very slowly pulled back a bit before pushing back in. It was a laborious pace but eventually you'd relaxed enough to get a second finger in. He pressed in and out, scissored his fingers and was rewarded by you finally relaxing enough to make some noise. You'd grunted a bit in the beginning but now you were moaning.
“Oh my god.”
“Feel good?”
“Yes.”
“Wanna feel better?”
You nodded, looking up at him with half lidded eyes.
“Roll over for me, okay. It'll be way more comfortable this way.”
You did so, getting on your hands and knees. Jack spit onto his dick before lining himself up. He pressed in slowly in one fluid motion. You gasped, feeling like his fingers did nothing to prepare you for the real thing.
“Holy shit.”
“I know, I know. Relax.”
You did your best. When he was about half way in he stopped. He pulled his hips back out a bit before pushing back in, a little faster. Slowly the pain began to dissipate. You started to moan and Jack sped up, pushing in deeper as he went.
“There we go. Good boy.”
They did something for you. You moaned and started to arch your back, going onto your elbows.
“Like that?” Jack asked. You just nodded your head. “Look at you, taking it so well. You sure as shit wadn’t gonna ride that horse tonight. You barely gonna be able to walk after I'm through with you. But you'd like that, yeah?”
“Yeah.” You moaned into the sleeping bag beneath you.
“You gonna let me ride you hard? Make me earn that food you caught for us?”
“Oh my god, don't stop.”
“Wouldn't dream of it.”
He sped up, draping himself over your back to get as close as possible.
“You feel so good. I'm getting close, how about you?”
You just nodded.
“Well, I'm not leaving my boy hanging. You sure you don't want me to touch you anywhere else?”
“Just, just don't touch inside.”
“Heard.”
Still plowing into you, he carefully brought one hand to your front, circling your dick with his finger. That added a whole new sensation to this. Arching your back more, your arms had given up entirely, you laid your head on the pillow and just took it, arms laying limply at your side.
“There he is. Feel good?”
“Yes, oh my god, yes.”
You were moving your hips back to meet his, he took this as a sign to give you his all. He went as hard as he could go, slamming into you, fingers still working you through it. With all of this, you were right there and you came with a shout. Clenching down on him, he was right behind you, finishing deep inside before pulling out.
You laid on your belly, out of breath and a smile on your face. Jack laid down next to you.
“That was insane.” You huffed out with a chuckle.
“Tell me about it.” He looked you over and smiled. “You know, any fella would be lucky to have you.”
“You think?”
“Yeah. And I don't know how you feel about ladies, but they'd be lucky too.”
Your smile faltered.
“Yeah. That's uh, how I got caught. Met a girl at a bar, we were kissing, getting to know one another.”
“What happened?”
“She recognized me. We'd gone to school together. She moved away, I didn't even realize it was her until it was too late.”
“She was upset.”
“She told the town that I'd tricked her. My dad owns a shop, he couldn't have me ruin their livelihood."
“It's their loss.” He caressed the side of your face.
“Yeah, it is.” You smiled, half asleep.
Jack leaned in and kissed your temple.
“I gotta get up that mountain. I'll see you in the morning, alright?”
“Alright.” You gave him a proper kiss on the mouth.
He got dressed and put the food up a tree before getting his horse and making for the flock. He still had some sunlight left. You pulled your boxers back on and watched as he went. Just before he was out of sight he turned to look at you. You waved and he smiled and waved back before disappearing up the mountain. You watched until you saw him arrive, looking at the speck of light that was his cigarette against the shadow of the mountain's silhouette and went back in the tent to get some sleep. You both fell asleep replaying that moment in the tent in your heads.
I tried to make some of these gender non-specific!! I’ve noticed a few new followers who are guys and I know I always write female!Reader stuff, so I wanted to make something everyone can read and feel included in! <3 Happy 4/20, babes!!
gif has nothing to do with the writing, just a reminder to my fellow stoner babies to go smoke today!! Also go watch this movie
=====~
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake is the silliest dude when he’s high! I mean, he’s already really silly when sober, and my God, he does not need any help. He is literally the most clingy and (cutely) annoying person when he’s high. He is so heavy on munchies!! Jake loves cooking for y’all when he’s high, even though he makes mistakes and sometimes puts too much of one ingredient, and you’re always glad to try some food when you’re high, so it all works out. Always poking your damn face. He loves your pretty face <3
This man will get down on his knees for you when y’all are high!!! There have been a few times where he’s been eating you out and you had to snap him out of it. You know once he stops growling into your pussy and making eye contact, he’s fallen into his own pussy drunk world. Oh, yeah - Jake is definitely a bitch boy when you’re fucking him after smoking a blunt or a joint. I’m talking moaning, begging, whimpering, and crying for you. His cock just gets so sensitive when he’s high and it drives reader absolutely insane ☺️
Donnie Darko
I really love the idea of Donnie having a stoner gf and her never pressuring him, but he wants to try it at some point. I feel like Donnie tries not to smoke very much, though, because he’s afraid it’ll mix badly with his schizophrenia. When he does smoke with you, he’s always very giggly. Everything makes him laugh so hard. HUGE cartoon watcher!!! I can just imagine him laying his head in your lap, pissing himself cause of how funny SpongeBob is to him. Another one of his favorites is The Jetsons. He thinks those dudes are so funny. Always talking about how he wants to pet Astro. “He’s not real, baby.” You would explain, “Don’t say that!” He shushes you, placing a finger over your mouth.
I think it takes a long time for Donnie to actually have sex while high, and when he does, he falls in love with it. It’s like slow motion, like nothing else around you matters. He adores making love to you like that🤭 and he never cums harder
David Loki
Man, oh, mannnn, you had to really convince David to smoke with you. I like the idea of David falling for an informant and she convinces him to smoke with him.
“Come on, i’m a cop, I can’t do that shit.” He blinked harshly, waving it away with his hand.
“Okay. Pussy.” You teased meanly, smiling at him as you lit the joint up. You inhaled the smoke and blew it in the opposite direction of him.
“Fuck you. I’m not a pussy.” He would reply calmly, not making eye contact with you.
“Then…” Your voice trailed off and you walked your hand up his chest, waving the joint in front of his eyes. David would smirk at you, finally making eye contact,
“You’re gonna get me in trouble.” He whispered teasingly, taking your hand and leading the joint to his mouth. You held it for him as he took a long hit, impressing you. David ends up really liking weed. Anyway, long story short, he fucked you in an alleyway that night <3
Lou Bloom
He would not fucking allow you to smoke around him and if he ever smelled it on you… well. He wasn’t nice about it. And, obviously, he would never smoke “that shit”.
Jack Twist (X M!Reader)
Hey, this one is for my guys!!! You were a farmer, but not the fruit and vegetable kind, you know. You grew that zaza. The good stuff. Being good friends with Jack and wanting him to smoke with you makes me sofftttt. Maybe there’s a little something between y’all too. Jack smoked once back in high school and it didn’t take you that much convincing to have him try it again.
“Wait… my mouth is really dry. Is that part of it?” He questioned, his eyes trying to stay open.
Always leaning his head on your shoulder. He wants to pet EVERYTHING when he’s high. Every blanket, every pillow, your hair, every animal you had on your little farm. Accidentally admitting he thinks you’re handsome when you’re both high 🤭
“Wait, what’d you say?” You made sure your high brain wasn’t tricking you.
“Um… I - Nothing.” He laughed out, punching your arm playfully.
“Tell me.” Your voice dropped an octave and you looked him in the eye.
Jack’s pants got tighter at your tone of voice, and he tried to cover up with his arms, but you noticed☺️
Danny Sharp
This man just wants to get you high and fuck you, okay!!! Respectfully!!!!! That’s all I have to say about him. I think he’s a rough man, in general, but when he’s high, he doesn’t give a fuck about anything except for making you cum on his dick <3 You come (& cum) first with him.
Billy Hope
BITCH PLEASEE!! When Leila gets to high school/college, you and Billy smoke it the fuck uppppp! Ok! I can imagine him wanting to get some weed just for the nostalgia, something to remind him of when him and Mo used to smoke together, but then when you smoke with him, it turns into a frequent thing, maybe every two days or so. He would smoke every day, but he spends too much time with Leila and isn’t willing to give that up! He also opens up to Maureen to you when he gets high, which is vv nice. Billy also probably fucks u rlly hard when y’all get high together - This man loves fucking you from behind <3 Also, he loves edibles! I can’t explain it, but I feel like Billy Hope is a big edible guy.
Quentin Beck
I think Quentin is like Lou and would get mad if you smoked and tried to get him to. He is HEAVY on “your body is a temple, baby.” Anyone who disrespects that, even you, will get a punishment. But yours is the best punishment! If yk what I mean (;
Adam Bell
This little baby boy just get absolutely shut down when he smokes weed!! He is always so stressed and pent up, and it really helps him take the edge off. His favorite day of the week is when you come over with your joint. Soon, every week turned into every Friday and Saturday, (you used Sunday to help him grade papers).
Morf Vandewalt
Never, ever, ever smoke inside this man’s house!!! He will absolutely murder(fuck) you so hard! He loves smoking with you, but he’s a little princess when it comes to it. He always wears a certain outfit, because he doesn’t want to make any of his other clothes smell like weed. And he always throws them in the washer after.
“Just smoke naked.” You would smirk at him, teasingly.
“Ha ha.” He would say dryly.
This man always had to have a filter! And you always roll his joints or his blunts. “Thank you, sugar.” He’d say every time you handed him a freshly rolled joint.
Morf is the only person you know who always has a lighter nearby. It’s a gesture for you, though! He’s sweet like that. Since you started dating, he carries a lighter around for you, since you’re always losing it. That’s why he prefers outfits with pockets. Anytime he sees your hands searching your pockets frantically, or if he catches you scrambling around the house with a joint in your mouth, “Here, baby.” He’d pull the lighter out, holding it up in your direction.
“Thank you, my angel.” You would tell him, placing a kiss on his forehead.

Summary: Sometimes, Prince Charming is just a few years away.
As much as he wanted, Jack knew he couldn’t wait forever. Every year that he waited for Ennis to come to him, took something away from his heart. He knew why Ennis never did, hell, he understood better than anyone else. But that didn’t mean that the pain didn’t go away. The pain of being put aside for him to live a life that they both knew he didn’t like, with his only bright side being his girls. Yes, Ennis Del Mar was a stubborn son of a bitch, and so was Jack Twist. Which meant they both held out hope that the other one would come to their senses and leave.
After his last visit with Ennis, Jack decided enough was enough. He couldn’t continue on meeting up with him every once in a while to spend the night together, and then return him back to his wife and kids the next morning. His heart hurt to do it, but it was for the best. Ennis looked relieved and depressed at the news, which didn’t make dropping him off any easier on Jack. But it had to be done, for both of their sakes. Which lead Jack to wandering across America. The divorce had put things into perspective for him, and now he was trying to enjoy life as best he could.
Eventually, Jack settled back on Brokeback Mountain. The place that felt more like home than anywhere else. The man felt the sun start to peak over the horizon and onto his face from the window in his bedroom. He groaned and turned over, but felt something heavy and warm wrapped around him. The warm something against his back, and the distinct lack of coffee smell let him know that his companion had yet to wake up and get started on the day today. Jack heard a groan behind him, and felt the warm body nuzzle further into his neck from behind. The early morning, the smells of the mountain, and the company with him pulled Jack into a welcome memory.
~
“‘Scuse me, sir?” Jack turned around and beheld a man with a beautiful, but worn Stetson on his head. The espresso brown color complimented the mystery man’s skin, eyes, and the little bit of hair peaking through.
“Anyone sittin’ here?” The mystery man asked, and pointed to the only other available seat at the bar. Jack shook his head and motioned for the man to sit down, which he did. Flagging down the bartender, he heard a honey smooth voice order a double whiskey on the rocks. He sounded like a man after Jack’s heart.
“Whatcha doin’ in a place like this? You look like a city boy.” Jack’s eyebrows shot up to the top of his head as he slowly looked over his shoulder at the man. The look he was giving him must have been enough to convey the emotion he felt being called a city boy, because the mystery man started to talk once more.
“Oh, ‘m sorry. Me and my big mouth. I-I-I meant that you look really clean cut for being out in a workin’ part of town like this. Not that you…” he trailed off, mumbling to himself about the trouble his mouth was about to get him into. The man reminded Jack a lot of him when he was younger and more full of vigor. He started to chuckle lightly as he turned to face the man more.
“You’re alrigh’, I suppose. What’s your name?” The whiskey in his hands felt warmer than usual, as Jack watched the man’s face. The man supplied him with his name, and let himself roll it over his tongue a couple times before giving him his own. It was strange for Jack to be back in this position all these years later, now weathered and hurt. But it reminded him of the good times he had, and hoped for more to come.
“So, what brings you out here, Jack?” He asked, nursing the whiskey in his hands. He laughed humorlessly and thought about his answer.
“Just tired of living for everyone else. All my folks ran me off, so I’m just wanderin’ now. What about you? Your folks run you off?” A flash of blonde hair and a white hat passed over his mind, but the response wasn’t right.
“I guess I’m the same. I’m tired of survivin’ for everyone else. I wanna live for me.” And like that, the sweet chocolate brown eyes flashed away from memory. The gruff voice was replaced by this honey laced one. Same situation, different outcome. It took Jack a long time to realize that this was the beginning of the rest of his life.
~
Being pulled back into the present, soft kisses were pressed against Jack’s shoulders, neck, and back. He hummed at the affection and let himself sink further into the embrace. The head that the devilish lips were attached to peaked over his shoulder and came into view.
“Good morning, cowboy.” His partner said, voice stifled with sleep. He dropped his head on Jack’s chest and let the other man card his hands through his hair.
“Good morning, beau.” Jack responded as he pressed a small kiss to his head. They laid there for a moment more before his partner had to get up, and he made it known. Groaning, he shuffled over Jack, stretched, and walked over to grab a pair of jeans off the floor. Jack simply admired the man from behind, and made no move to get out of bed just yet.
“You wan’ some coffee, cowboy?” He asked, hand waiting on the door. Jack leveled him a deadpan look.
“Does that damn rooster wake us up every morning?” The man laughed as he walked out the door of their bedroom, and left Jack laying down in their shared bed. He knew he needed to get up. He had to help with taking care of their ranch, but everything seemed peaceful right now. He’d hate to disturb it, but it needed to be done. After a few minutes of staying in the warm bed, and letting the sunrise get him awake, Jack stood and went to go find a pair of jeans and a shirt. He stuffed his feet into a pair of socks, before grabbing another flannel shirt and heading to the kitchen.
The sight was something to behold when he finally arrived in the kitchen. His partner stood with his back to the threshold, and lost in his own world. He hummed quietly as the coffee was brewing on the stovetop, with the radio guiding him along in tune and tempo. As he watched the man in the kitchen go about his routine, Jack ran his hands over the flannel in his hands that he was going to offer. Their life together so far flashed in his head as he quietly observed. He came up behind the shirtless man and wrapped his arms around his shoulders, while tucking his head into the little spot where the neck met the shoulder. Jack felt his partner’s head tip back onto his own shoulder and the two began to sway gently. The music, the smell of the coffee, and the sound of the great outdoors that awaited them all helped set the mood of the morning.
Both were just content. They were content to be with each other, content to live where they did, and content to be themselves. It was easier to be themselves away from the prying eyes of society. The same ones that called their lifestyle sinful while having multiple affairs. But that didn’t matter out here. Here, they were just there. No heavy deadlines, or appearances to keep. No watching what they say, or how they act. It was freeing to be them out here. Jack watched with droopy eyes as his partner placed several spoonfuls of sugar into his mug and went to add a splash of milk. While Jack didn’t need the milk, it was a nice touch when they could afford it. He watched the man fix his own cup of coffee before dragging them both over to the table in the dining room. Jack had totally missed the food that was already there. How long had it been that his partner left their bedroom?
“Here you go, cowboy. Eat up. We’ve gotta go repair that fence today.” The man said, digging into his eggs and sausage. Jack groaned around a mouthful of eggs and threw his head back.
“Seriously? How many times have we had to fix that damn fence this month?” He continued to tear into his toast and breakfast while they talked.
“Three. That’s because of the damn sheep. They just don’t leave it the hell alone. Which reminds me, we’ve gotta eat anythin’ that can go bad soon. We’re movin’ the sheep ‘cross the mountain again this summer.” Jack was amazed at his ability to multitask like that. It surely couldn’t have been easy but he made it appear so.
“Damn it. Okay. We takin’ Jesse with us, right?” He asked, biting off a piece of toast.
“Yep. We’re gettin’ a little raise from last year’s adventure but it will be enough to pay for the fence and then some.” The men finished their meals with some small talk, mostly about the day ahead. With plates in the sink, and mugs in hand, a now full dressed couple stood on the porch, and watched the land. Jesse came up as soon as she saw her owners with a dead squirrel in her mouth and tail a wagging. They laughed and got the squirrel away from her before resting. The same routine everyday, but they loved it. One last moment of piece before they would turn in for the night later on.
They drank their coffee and enjoyed the blissful state of nature around them. Jesse laid at their feet, while Jack wrapped his right arm around his partner’s shoulders. He felt his partner do the same but with his left arm. Jack turned and pressed a kiss to his partner’s head and nuzzled further into the hair that he fell in love with years ago. He always imagined that he would be doing this with Ennis. That’s what his heart wanted for twenty years; twenty years of longing, pain, love, and heartache. But this was even better. A partner that loved him as he loved him, one that stood by his side but called him out when he needed to. Someone to live out his happily ever after with with no doubt that he would crawl through fire and glass just to see Jack happy. Maybe it’s not with who he originally thought it would be, but happily ever after takes a little time to get sometimes.
No TW, unrelated to last fic. Just really missing Jack Twist lately.
Rope Bunny is a Rider
Synopsis: You and Jack work your second summer together.
“Can’t shoot worth a damn, can't rope a calf. What is it that you can do?”
Jack gave you an exasperated look as the calf he tried and failed to lasso scurried off.
“Can you do any better?”
He knew you could, he just wanted to see you show off for once. You were quiet and humble when you two had first started working together, and he liked how you got when you were braggadocios.
You wiped the sweat from your brow, grabbed your rope and slowly started to come up on the least spooked calf in the pen. You raised your lasso and sent it flying, wrapping around its hind legs. You walked up, untied the poor thing and pet its head before it ran back over to its herd.
“Now why is it you refuse to join me when the rodeo comes to town? Could make some decent money in the Tie-Down.” Jack asked, walking over to you.
“Yeah? You figure? Or you just want an excuse to see me more?” You tipped your hat up to get a good look at him.
You both stood about a yard away from one another. You knew your bosses could mosey up on the property anytime, so you never got too close in the sunlight.
“Two things can be true at once, can't they?” He looked you up and down.
“I suppose.” You looked around, and noticed a heifer had gotten her head stuck in a fence. “Let's get these ladies back to the barn, supposed to be nasty winds and rainfall tonight. We can pick this conversation back up later.”
“Yes sir.”
Jack walked past you and you couldn't help but lightly hit his thigh with your rope. You heard him chuckle.
After corralling the animals and making sure all the outside equipment was tied down and secure, you both went to check in on your boss and his family in the big house up the hill.
Your boss was a kind older man, whose sons had been drafted a few years ago. You had been working for him since you'd ran into his wife at the market in town. They offered you a free room and two meals a day. After your first season they started paying you on top of that, and you were grateful to be learning so much.
You had been wandering the interstates since you left high school, working odd jobs, and were thankful to finally have a bed you could call your own and people who gave a damn whether you returned home after dark.
This was Jack's second season, he used to work the mountains but had mentioned to you that that bridge had burned for future employment. You two had bonded last summer, and when you found out he was returning you were much more excited than you would care to admit.
When you both arrived at the house, the grandmother of the family was the only one home.
“Nelson had to meet a financier out towards Austin, and I doubt he's gonna drive home tonight on account of the rain. My daughter and the youngin’ are at a school function, I pray they make it home before the storm gets past the fields.” She'd offered the two of you to come in for some tea, and had explained the situation as she served it.
“You gonna be alright up here alone Ma’am? One of us could stay with you until your daughter gets home.” You offered, holding the warm mug in your cold, calloused hands.
“No need, hun. I wouldn't want you to have to run down that hill in the rain. Thanks for offering, but I'll be alright.”
“Do you need help without anything before we head to our shelter?” Jack asked, adding a sugar cube to his tea. “You got enough firewood for the night?”
“Yes dear, thank you. You two chopped more than enough for the next coming weeks the other day. Full of energy, the two of ya’s. How is it you two don't leave this farm, find a nice girl and settle down somewhere?”
“Well, Jack here's got somebody special up north, right? Another rodeo performer?” You offered from behind your mug.
“The rodeo? How interesting, what does she do?”
“Barrel racing ma'am. Lureen holds a few state titles.”
“Good for her. And how about you kiddo, you have anybody out there?” She turned to you.
She was an older woman, and she didn't always remember you stayed on the property year round.
“No ma'am. I'm more than happy working on the farm. Maybe once I've saved enough I can think about a family, but that's a ways away. Your family has been real good to me since I've started working here. Not much more I can ask of God to bless me with.”
“Well, when that time comes maybe Jack's missus can recommend a friend.”
You both gave each other a look. He looked away first.
“Yeah, maybe.” You said, more to yourself than anything, and placed your empty mug down.
Just then a flash of lightning shone through the kitchen window. A low rumble let you all know the rain was getting ready to fall any moment now.
“You two ought to head down to your quarters. I'll see you both in the morning for breakfast.”
“Thanks again ma'am.” You said, grabbing the empty mugs and placing them in the sink.
“Y'all still have those flares right?” Jack asked. The woman nodded. “If y'all need us, fire one off. One of us will probably be up. Don't hesitate.”
“Thank you sweetheart, always appreciated.”
You both grabbed your hats from the hooks near the front door, nodded at the woman, and made your way down the dirt driveway. You both walked shoulder to shoulder and watched as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon. The wind was starting to pick up and the pressure in the air let you know that the clouds were fixing to open up any second now.
“Race you there?” Jack asked.
“What are we, five?”
He shrugged and booked it across the property. The workman's quarters were near the treeline, a good mile from the house, not including the hill. You started jogging after him, not trying to tire yourself out like he seemed to be.
About ¾ of the way there he started to lose steam. He leaned on a fence to catch his breath. You got an idea.
“Tired there, pretty boy?” You teased.
“Fuck off.” He didn't turn to look at you.
You took your rope you still had from earlier and got his leg. You didn't pull it tight, but you had him.
“What the hell are you doing?”
As he bent to remove the rope you pulled, sending him flat on his back. You went to tie the rope like you would a calf and he fought you, breathing out laughs as you two scrambled on the ground. You'd tied his feet together and managed to get his hands bound too. You stood up to look at your handy work.
“Maybe the rodeo is for me.”
“Get me out of this.” He demanded, looking up at you equally entertained and pissed.
“You wanna ask nicely?”
“Fuck you.”
“Aw, that ain't nice.”
You picked him up and tossed him over your shoulder before finishing the walk to the living quarters.
“Are you insane?”
“Not before I met you.”
“Someone could see us.”
You chuckled, looking around at the open fields and trees in the distance.
“Yeah, sure. I think you're just embarrassed I bested you.”
You could just imagine the pout that was no doubt marring that cute face of his. You made it to the building and opened the door. You dropped him carefully on the little dingy couch they had set up in the room. You hung your hat up and kicked off your boots by the door.
“You gonna untie me now?”
“Don't be such a drama queen. You can untie yourself. There's plenty of slack in that rope. You could have freed yourself if you wanted to.”
His legs had been tied pretty well, but you didn't wanna hurt his wrists. He pulled at the rope and slipped one hand out all together. He sheepishly untied himself.
“The biggest prison is your mind. If you think you can't get out, you never will.” You tossed that little wisdom over your shoulder as you started to change for bed.
He'd gone awfully quiet, and as you had stripped down to just your boxers you felt the rope on one of your hands.
“Try getting out of this.” He whispered behind you.
He tied your arms behind your back, and you let him. He sat you down on a chair and tied the rope to the back.
“Can't calf rope but great at knots. Only you, Jack.”
“Hey, I'm in charge now. You might wanna talk nicer.”
“How do you figure that?”
He got undressed himself. You watched as he slowly stripped, tossing his clothes who knows where. Once fully nude he walked up to you and got in your lap.
“How do you figure? You may pitch more than you catch, boy,” He leaned into your face, giving you a kiss before leaning back, “but I'm always in charge.”
He rolled his hips and grinded down on you, still covered by your underwear. You groaned as he kissed your neck and ran his hands up and down your body. You sighed in relief when he finally took you out of your boxers and got back on your lap with a sharp hiss.
Never one to let you see him sweat, he picked up his pace out of spite. Your eyes were locked onto his face as he rode you, up and down while never breaking eye contact. The only light in the room was a small kerosene lamp on the kitchen table, and you could just barely see how wide his pupils were.
Even with your arms behind your back, you could still thrust up. You timed your paces together and you felt yourself getting way too close.
“Untie me.”
He just kissed the other side of your neck.
“Jack.”
“I thought we were supposed to ask for things nicely.”
“Please Jack, please.”
You were never too proud to beg the man before you. You both knew it was because he was never one to deprive you, or himself, the satisfaction.
“That's more like it.”
He reached his arms around the chair to loosen the knot. Once your arms were free you wrapped them around him, holding him closer to you as he continued to ride. Your breath hitched and he knew you were close.
“That all you got, cowboy?”
“You know there's always more for you.”
You placed your hands on his hips and really started to thrust up, grabbing him and using your arms to add some force. His moans got louder and they were music to your ears. You sped up and finished with a shout. You held him against you as you caught your breath.
“You can be in charge as much as you want.”
“Damn right.” He stood up, wincing slightly.
His cock was still rod straight, an angry red against the pale skin of his belly. You stood up and slid your boxers off.
“You in the mood for pitching tonight?”
“Get over here.”
You both laid down in “your” cot and he got in between your legs. In the beginning of your relationship, you were too shy to face each other like this. It felt too intimate. You were used to being bent over or pushed against a wall. The first time you two laid together like this you cried after. Jack just held you and let you get your feelings out.
You'd shared with him how he was the most caring man you'd ever been with, and by far the most gentle. He knew about your past, how you'd hitchhiked from New England all the way to the Southwest. You two knew what the two of you were the moment you met. The way he met your eyes after you shook his hand. You two were at the right place at the right time.
You two didn't talk about what this meant outside of this room, a glorified shed with four cots, a table and a couch. You knew after he left he'd be back to his real life. But you had faith that he'd come back, eventually. He only worked the summers, and last year the stretch in-between was eating away at your heart. You doubled down on your work, helped Mr. Nelson with anything he'd let you and offered to learn anything Mrs. Amanda would be willing to teach. You pickled and canned last fall, even started to learn how to crochet with her and her mother. Anything to keep your hands busy.
When the snow had finally melted and spring was in the air, you could just feel that he was coming back the next summer. And that he did. Once that truck pulled up you felt like you could finally breathe.
From the second you had seen his face that very first day, you knew it was gonna hurt when he had to leave. But you could handle that. And you would make every moment you had together count.
Saying hello had never felt so much like a ‘goodbye’ before. His blue eyes could be so expressive, but even when he was laughing and smiling there was a small bit of sadness.
“Where'd you go there?”
“Huh?”
He kissed you on the forehead, stilling his hips.
“Don't zone out on me.”
“Sorry, I was just thinking.”
“About?”
“This. Us.”
He just looked at you, encouraging you to continue.
“It's not bad, it's not. It's the opposite, I'm. I never really cared for the summertime until I met you, you know.” You looked away. He placed his hand on your face and had you look at him.
“You have no idea how much I missed you last year.” The look in his eyes from above you showed just how much he meant it.
“I've got a pretty good idea.” You rolled your hips up to him.
He got down on his elbows, caging you between them, and got closer to you.
“You're my favorite time of year.” He kissed you deeply, speeding his hips up. “I could stay like this forever.”
You moaned into his mouth as he found the right angle and dug your nails into his back. You could tell he was just as close as you were. As you both reached climax you moaned into his ear and held him closer. He pulled out and laid on top of you.
The rain started then, the pitter patter on the window pane building into a downpour. You both laid there and let yourself sit with everything you couldn't say. How you wished it didn't have to be one season out of the year, how much you cared about one another.
Unbeknownst to you, in a drunken stupor last summer, you had confessed that you loved him. After coming home from the bars in town, you two had barely made it inside before you pushed him up against the wall. It was one of the last nights you two shared together before he had to head back home.
You'd told him that you'd never said that to anyone else and you don't know if you ever would be able to again. But saying it to him, tangled in the sheets of this very same cot, it had felt right. And even though he knew you'd forget the conversation in the morning, he said it back between kisses and tears of his own. He couldn't remember the last time a man had said that to him.
Even though you weren't aware of what you said, you felt it every time you were in each other's arms. So what if the season has to end. Everything ends at some point. But right now you two had each other.
With the sun fully set and the rain at its heaviest, he asked if you wanted to go wash off in the rain. Deciding it would be better than just laying on top of one another and drying stuck together, you obliged. The two of you stood right outside your door and looked up at the sky. Dark and angry, the rain was unrelenting. But the two of you let the heavens wash down over you, rinse you clean.
Out of view from the big house, in the cover of night, Jack pushed you against the wall of your quarters and kissed you, held you. The two of you fooled around, kissing and running around the puddles and laughing. And for the night, and the next 3 months of nights, you two would have each other just like this. Free and happy being yourselves.
The stench of dirt. The roar of the crowd. All of that felt miles away. Sequestered in a rundown shack on the outskirts of the rodeo, you were focused on the bull rider currently on his knees before you.
“Gatdamn belt buckle.” Jack was fumbling with your new belt. You'd finally done enough work around town to buy some new gear.
“Want some help down there, cowboy?”
“I’ve got it.”
And get it he did. Finally free from your brown belt and bronze buckle, your jeans were finally loose enough to pull down. Once your cock sprung free, he was on it like a fresh corn off the grill.
You and Jack had… something going on. Even as whispers around the rodeo spread of him and a barrel racer getting serious, like clockwork every time you two ran into the other, he gave you that damn look. You had been debating on staying after the summer, but with someone like Jack around how couldn’t you hang around, just to see what could happen.
You did random work around the rodeo, mainly cleaning and maintenance. Sometimes first aid, but luckily you were a last resort for that kind of thing. That is how you met your current lover all those weeks ago; poor son of a bitch conked his head on a metal beam before he even had a chance to get out of the cage. You'd bandaged him up, and being so close to one another gave Jack the push he needed to rest his hand on your knee.
To anyone passing by, it would have looked like he just needed some stability as you cleaned his face up and gave him a few stitches. But to you, the heavy, warm weight paired with that glint in his eye let you know exactly what he was trying to do. In all your years you'd never met another man as brazen as Jack Twist. He's lucky he was tough, because he was asking for trouble being as forward as he was.
But trouble seemed to be his middle name. Sneaking into an empty shack to fool around or dipping behind a hay bale to kiss was how you two got your kicks. And he was damn good, too.
Too good.
“Jack, Jack. Slow down man.”
He just hummed. He knew you were almost there. He figured if he was quick enough you'd be able to return the favor before he had to head back to the arena. Maybe even enough time for more. On that thought, while still bobbing his head, he reached a hand up to grab a handful of your ass. After playfully squeezing it, he brought his hand lower and found what he was looking for, lightly circling your rim with his pointer finger. You leaned your head back against the old, weatherworn plank of the wall and spread your legs wider. He pulled back to look up at you.
“Still want me to slow down?”
You shook your head, and your mouth opened with a gasp as he plunged two fingers inside.
“Please, Jack.”
“Since you asked so kindly darlin’, I got you.”
He gave your dick one last lick before getting up off his knees and turning you around to brace your arms against the wall. You bent over as he took himself out of his jeans. He dribbled a drop of spit down and ran his hand up and down to give you a fighting chance at being able to ride home comfortably tonight. He lined himself up with your entrance and covered your mouth with his hand.
“Get as loud as you want, baby boy.”
As he pushed in you moaned, deep and guttural into his palm. You squinted your eyes shut as he stilled, half way in, to let you adjust. You could hear him panting behind you. He leaned onto your back to talk in your ear, slowly getting deeper as he did so.
“You feel so good like this. You're my favorite part of these rodeos, you know.” He kissed the side of your neck, from your jaw down to your trap muscle.
Another thing about Jack, the fool was romantic. You're no stranger to quick, roadside pick ups, or cruising on a main street corner. But the men you met were business first. You couldn't remember the last time you knew someone's last name, hell you were lucky for a first. But Jack wanted the boyfriend experience. While you two were together you might as well have been the only two people on the planet.
Eye contact, hands caressing your whole body, not just your orifices. The talking, the pet names. You knew when this ended it was gonna break you, but it just made you appreciate him while you had him.
From a speaker far away, the two of you heard the announcement for the bareback riders, and knew you had about 20 minutes before the bull riders took the arena.
“You can move.” You said, leaning up some to speak over his hand.
He brought it back to your hip and pulled out just to push all the way back in. He did that fully a few more times before gaining speed, getting closer and closer until he was just rutting up into you. Both your pants and stifled moans filled the empty space in this shack. You rested your forehead against the wall, splinters be damned.
“Ah, baby getting tired already?” He mocked sweetly.
“You wish.” You panted. You were trying to think of something smart to say when you felt that tight hot feeling. “There, fuck Jack, there.”
“Oh, here?” He pulled back just enough to lose that feeling.
“You bastard. You know we ain't have time to play like this.”
“That's where you're wrong,” he doubled his speed again, and putting full force into that spot you wanted him so badly. “Me and you have got nothing but time in this world, bucko. You know where to find me after my ride, right?”
You nodded, too lost to the feeling for words at the moment.
“And you've been applying to those shops in town, right?” He whispered into your ear.
“Yes.”
“Then we've got plenty of time.”
He brought his hand around to your front and took you in his hands, beating you off in time to his thrusts. You leaned your head back on his shoulder.
“I'm coming.”
“Well then, get on with it.” He teased, kissing the side of your face.
He sped his hand up and you came, painting the poor wall in front of you. He followed right behind, holding you down, balls deep, and leaning his forehead on the back of your neck. As the two of you caught your breaths you could hear the crowds starting to get hype. The bareback riders must have been finishing up soon.
“You know I’d love to stay and help clean up…”
“Go on.” You said, standing up right. “I've got it.”
“You're a peach.” He said, tucking himself back in his pants.
“As a cobbler.” You pulled up your jeans and buckled your belt. Before he left the shack you placed your hand on the small of his back. He let you hold him for a moment as you gave him a kiss. “Give 'em hell out there.”
“You know it.”
With a flash of that bright smile he was gone. You checked your outfit for any potentially incriminating stains and then wiped the wall down with a random rag in the shack. After some time had gone by, you exited the structure and beelined it towards the staff tent, praying nobody noticed your absence.
