407. Gnomes (1980)
4/10
Based on the eponymous Dutch children’s book which presents itself as a field guide to gnome biology.
This TV movie shows us a day in the life of the average forest gnome, including their interactions with animals, their wedding traditions, and their animosity toward their neighbors, the trolls. Although the first scene establishes their respect for the animals’ need to eat each other, they apparently have no regard for the dietary requirements of the trolls, and destroy the troll’s traps with such frequency that they are often forced to go hungry.
This movie’s moral inconsistency aside, the animation is a little too cheap to be very enjoyable, though there are certainly worse-looking TV specials.
