OKAY OKAY BUT

ever since the wee hughes book club got revealed, i did have this idea of one of them dating an author but could never really decide who i wanted it to be

it's more just like a random wee universe that lives in the back of my head about the brothers being obsessed with this author who writes some series (whether it's crime or fantasy or something). and then she meets one of them and they hit it off and it becomes a whole thing. but each brother has so much potential!!

quinn: he is already the brother that is far away so the book club is something he feels very strongly about because it gives him a connection even when sometimes they are too busy to talk. and like. he is the captain. he is the older brother. he is used to being collected and in control. and then suddenly he is meeting the author of one of his favourite series and she is really pretty and he is a flustered mess and it could just be so so funny. and she ends up at a canucks game somehow and he is being a wee fangirl and the team find it hilarious the way he is so eager to win for her

jack: he is used to the stereotypes around him. he knows people only view him as a pretty boy hockey player, and he knows he also gets some slack for being the only one who never went to college. but he really does enjoy reading and he is a wee nerd with it and no one really believes him when he is talking about how hyped he is for this series coming out. and maybe reader is doing an event in new york. maybe jack goes. and maybe she knows who he is or maybe she doesn't but it doesn't stop jack from babbling away about this series like he usually does with hockey and she is so endeared. and maybe she does know who he is so she is rambling back to him about hockey and he is just like 'oh my god i think i'm in love :0'

luke: obviously we don't know but it seems like the book club is mostly jack and quinn passing wee recommendations. so there is something just so inherently funny about luke making wee jokes about his brothers being obsessed with this series and luke somehow ending up dating the author of said series. and the way jack and quinn pester her like "so can you tell us what happens next?" but then there is luke standing there, grinning away like "she actually let me read the first few chapters of the next book" just to rub it in. but also kinda sweet that maybe he isn't much of a reader but he does read her books and he is her biggest fan (even if quinn and jack try to give him shit that he isn't the biggest fan in the family)

thinking about jack with a black cat/wednesday!reader. like he’s already a bit sassy with people and media in general, so there’s this assumption that he would end up with someone who’s all sunshine and kindness and sweet

enter reader, who’s the exact opposite of what everyone expects. the way she takes no shit and she’s deadpan and blunt and brutally honest. the way she will literally tear a journalist down herself if they are bashing jack like, “oh so you think you can do better? you think you can be first overall? you think you could even hit a puck with any form of accuracy?”

thinking about how jack is absolutely heart eyes, down bad for her and people make comments about how he deserves someone better and that’s when he gets defensive and sassy, telling them there’s no one else he would rather be with

thinking about how maybe she does have a wee soft side but it’s for his eyes only. and maybe it’s not even that soft—at least in other people’s eyes—but it is for her and jack absolutely adores her

maybe reader is like sabrina. maybe she is a rising pop girlie and she is killing it. and maybe this is one of her first 'big' relationships where media outlets are reporting on it and she is constantly getting papped but she thinks its worth it for him

and he turns out to be a dick. maybe he was kinda enjoying all the attention she was getting too and kinda leeched off of it and by the end of the relationship, he was in it more for the fame than her

and so its a messy break up and he is making all these comments to try and gain sympathy and mess up her reputation. and she is pissed and she almost wants to prove a point that she is bigger than him so she follows his favourite athlete

enter jack hughes.

she follows and he follows back pretty quickly. the internet thinks its hilarious but she had no real intentions of taking it beyond that. but maybe jack is sliding into her dms with some cheesy line about watching a game and she is like 'why not? what's the harm in going to one game?'. and maybe the pr teams overkill it a bit, get her a personalised jersey and blah blah blah

but then it continues. her and jack keep talking. maybe it starts as a 'dating for revenge' situation but she really starts to vibe with jack. suddenly she is writing these news songs and people are starting to link them to jack and her ex is pissed.

but she is happy!! she is in love!! and she gets to piss off her ex which is just a bonus now!! maybe she is even being a bit petty, sending him a bouquet of flowers like 'thanks for introducing us xoxo'

maybe one of the songs she writes for jack is juno👹

well I am using this as an excuse to yap about the jack series because it lives in my head ✨rent free✨ at all hours of the day

BUT

it’s almost like the opposite of the luke and cherry series? it basically follows jack kinda wanting something more serious now that he’s in a good place in his life with an established place in the league but the boy has NO luck on dating apps. and it’s how he meets reader because she thinks he’s a catfish and thinks the date will be a good story for a laugh but shows up and is like, “oh. you’re actually jack hughes” and he’s like, “you thought I wasn’t???”

and its basically reader helping the boy find love through different dating apps and websites. and each chapter is a different dating app and it’s just a fun wee series in my head

but I’m also very aware I need to finish luke+cherry before I start it😭

jack kinda laughs when she first approaches because he thinks she’s joking because why would a sorority girl so openly approach him and not just go through a bunch of other people? and then when he asks her what she wants, she kinda stands there like 🧍‍♀️because she doesn’t know what to say and jack kinda melts a little

and this unsuspecting friendship/tension/dynamic starts up between them where he’s kinda teaching her the ropes but also friends are definitely not this touchy or cuddling up when they are high and giggly

and with each hang out it becomes more and more difficult to ignore the tension and ugh just IMAGINE the needy, clingy sex when they are high🫠just all blissed out and desperate to keep their hands on each other
