Chapter One

Charming is a deceptive name for this town.

It’s not Charming at all.

Everyday there seems to be something harsh happening. Sometimes it’s the random gun fights between gangs, other times it’s the police finding the bodies of random vampire victims. You never really know what you’re going to find when you walk outside your home in Charming.

When your mother moved you out here after her divorce from your father, there was never a doubt in your mind you weren’t safe. If anyone here found out about you and your families secret— hell, you’d be dead before you knew it.

You have to keep it secret. That much is clear. Your mother reminds you everyday. To keep the little door in the back of the shop locked and never let anyone back there.

Not even the blonde vampire who seems to be taking a liking to you.

He’s come in everyday for the past week. He hasn’t bought a single flower from your shop. He wears a black kutte with the swagger of a thousand men. He prowls the streets like he damn owns them. He’s thinks he’s great.

You make it known you think the opposite.

The familiar jingle of your door bell signals a new customer, a tune you’ve become quite familiar with.

You don’t turn to face them quite yet. No. You hold your stance with your back to the open area at the front of your Flower Shop.

But you feel him. It’s impossible not to.

He’s got this presence that’s hard to miss even when you’re trying to ignore him completely.

Just knowing he’s behind you had the hairs on the back of your neck standing on edge.

But, ever the professional, you force a smile across your face. You turn slowly, pot in hand. Your eyes scan across his form— large, imposing, intruding— eyes narrowed at the sight.

“Jackson,” you state. Your voice is dry and humorless. You don’t want him to overstay his welcome. “Come in to buy a flower this time? Or are you just back to hassle me some more?” You ask.

The blonde lets out a dry chuckle at your words. He clearly doesn’t find it all that funny, but anything to keep you around, huh?

“Nah, sweetheart, no flowers for me. But I definitely didn’t come in her to hassle ya, either,” he drones, flashing you an easy grin.

His smile shows off more than you’d like to see. It shows off a picture of perfect intimidation. Perfectly sharpened fangs pointed just enough to make girls squeak and other guys back off. The ones he hasn’t ever hesitated to sink into someone’s neck before.

“And you can call me Jax, baby,” he adds, leaning lazily against your counter.

His fingers drum against the wood, a repetitive tap tap tap that’s quick to get on your nerves.

A putrid bile threatens to rise in your throat at his comment, smile faltering for just the briefest moment. But you force it down. You force that professionalism that mother dearest drilled into you for years.

Instead, you choose to ignore his awful flirting. You choose to ignore his very existence outside of shopping.

“Well, if you’re not buying flowers, what are you doing here?” You ask, placing the pot down onto the counter next to your heavy metal cash register.

He tracks your movements with an almost predatory gaze, eyes glinting behind his dark sunglasses. “Came by to see you, doll,” he quips.

You give a single disinterested nod, pushing hair up and out of your face. “Please don’t call me that,” you huff, arms crossing over your chest.

But that sickly sweet professional tones sticks heavy on your voice as you say it.

“Seeing as I’m on the job, Jackson, I would appreciate it if you would take a step back from my counter and walk away. I’ve got customers,” you nod.

Jax takes a look around the shop from his perch next to your counter, a single eyebrow raising at your supposed customers. “Oh, yeah, business is booming today,” he states dryly.

Jackass.

Your eyes can help but roll on their own, annoyance creeping its way into your voice. “You know what I mean, Teller. I would appreciate it if you moved along. You know I don’t do the whole talking thing.”

He straightens up, holding up his hands in submission. “Damn, alright. Just wanted to chat,” he chuckles.

“I’ll see you next time, sweetheart,” he adds, giving you a wave that has your upper lip in disgust.

God damn he just doesn’t know when to stop.

You waste no time turning back to your plants as he exits your place of work, smile falling immediately.

Most people think the devil has horns.

You happen to know he has fangs.

The sun is swelteringly hot today, beating down on everyone's backs as they work without mercy. It's been a relatively slow day. Only a few cars have pulled in needing repair meaning that most of the mechanics have been able to sit back. Peering down the engine compartment of some old guys car, all you can do is nod along as Tara grills into you.

"Bitch. There's no way he hasn't made you cum in over a month," She gapes, sliding closer to you from her perch on a work bench. "I would lose my shit," she laughs, raising her eyebrows at your words.

"I'm surprised I haven't." She laughs gingerly at your words, watching as you hold out your hand. "Hand me my open ended wrench, will you?" You ask. "But I can't really complain, can I? He's a Son, he doesn't have a whole lot of time to worry about my satisfaction, no?" Grabbing the wrench out of her hand, she watches as you disappear down the compartment.

Running a hand over your forehead, you grumble as you try and loosen a particularly tough bolt. Almost got it, just a little more-

"Ohh, you had that dude scared out of his pants," Tig laughs, slamming the door open as he walks through the garage. The sound is enough to startle you out of the compartment, losing your grip on the bolt.

"Fuck!" You grumble, wrench slipping from your fingers and into the car. "Could you have slammed that door any louder, Tig?" Reaching a hand into the compartment, you struggle to grasp at the wrench.

A few Sons, who have made it very clear that they're back at the shop, went out earlier in the day to go talk to a guy who wasn't being very cooperative with their.. requests. Tara hops off the bench, staring down the shaft to see if she can catch a glimpse of the lost tool. “That things never coming out of there,” she states, nodding her head matter-of-factly.

“Yeah, I realize that now,” you grumble. You lift yourself out of the compartment just enough to catch a glimpse of Jax walking towards you. You’ve known Jax for years. Getting a job at eighteen while liking cars was always a trip. You tried for years when you were a teenager to get people to hire you for car work- they never wanted to hire you. When Teller-Morrow actually hired you it was like a dream come true. You weren’t expecting the interview to go anywhere after you walked out of that office, so getting a call back from Gemma was awesome. You’ve been working here since; alongside the Sons you have no desire to learn about gang wise.

He peers over your shoulder down into the compartment, clicking his tongue in his cheek. “Damn, darlin’, how’d you manage that?” He asks, giving a slight tilt of his head at your predicament.

You can’t help but let out a dry chuckle, hands landing on your hips. “Tig slammed the door- caught me off guard,” you state. With a sharp huff and a shake of your head your head, you back away from the car. “I think the poor bastards just going to have a wrench in his engine compartment now.”

Jax laughs- short, brief, and quiet- shaking his own head in disbelief at your words. “Ya’ think?” He asks, raising an eyebrow at you. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll get Tig to fish it out,” he adds, reaching up and giving a warm pat to your shoulder.

Giving a quick nod and a small smile, you turn to look at Tara. Opening your mouth, you barely get out a syllable before he walks in. He walks in with a swagger and an atmosphere that screams cocky. He’s not the same man you fell for in highschool. No, he was sweet, caring, funny— nothing short of perfect. But he’s changed.

He never seems to care much for you anymore. Like you were just an itch he never could seem to get rid of. Ever since he took on his patch in the Sons Of Anarchy, he seems to think he’s too good for you. Like he’s only keeping you around because it’s good for him.

He never wants to touch you now. The only hand he rests upon you anymore comes with a brute force and a red mark.

No one else seems to see it, though. Your parents love him like they’re his own parents. They think you’re going to get married one day. You did want to get married for so long— now you’re not sure what you want.

“Girl,” his voice cuts through the silence of the bay like stone. Everything in you yells to not look, to keep going with your conversation. To keep being you. But you know what comes from defiance from him. So you look.

Your gaze meets his. It’s filled with hate, a look you’ve become accustomed to. He hates having you around the shop. He thinks you’re going to cheat on him. Especially with Jax.

He lets out a noise— a grunt? A huff? You can’t tell. “Come on, we’re leaving,” he states. It’s not a question, not a suggestion. It’s an order. An order you can’t say no to without getting yourself hurt.

You let your head drop, eyes trained onto the ground. Your feet, as if by themselves, begin moving forwards towards him. You move slow. So slow you wonder if you’re ever going to make it out of the bay.

They all see it. They see the way he looks at you. They see the way you get scared when his voice raises or he raises a hand too quick. They all notice the way he disappears with other girls and leaves you alone. They all see it.

But he’s one of their own members. What are they to do?

In a world where monsters roam the streets just the same as you and I, there are certain rules that shan’t be discussed. No one messes with the vampires, the humans are left to their own choices so long as they don’t pick fights with another species, the werewolves are allowed to be as rowdy as they want during full moons, and no one tries to revive the witch race.

They killed them for safety. The last witch was executed almost 350 years ago. They burned her and tossed her into the river after an all out manhunt was called against the witches. That’s what we’re all taught in school— they’re all gone. Or.. are they?

And now in present day California, there’s a smooth talking vampire trying to charm his way into what he believes is a sweet little humans heart. She may have more magic up her sleeve than he bargained for.

What was it about? Hell, you don’t know. Maybe he left too many dishes in the sink. Maybe you wore a skirt too short for him to ignore. You don’t know. All you know is that after playing a days long match of the silent treatment, Jax was done with all that bullshit.

“Can’t even- fuck- can’t even do shit without you getting on my case,” he cusses, hips thrusting upwards into your cunt.

His hand covers your parted lips, effectively blocking all your pitiful little whines and moans as he fucks you right up against the door of your laundry room. He knows you’re both angry, but between his complaints all he can find himself thinking about is just how tight you feel around him.
