LAURA LEE who always braids jackie’s hair before games… and sometimes insisted on redoing them so that “they looked perfect” so she could run her fingers through jackie’s impossibly shiny hair just a bit longer.

LAURA LEE who got injured 2 practices into sophomore season- but still showed up to practice while she was recovering. she spent her benched time making daisy chains out of the flowers that grew around the field, presenting them to her at water breaks.

JACKIE who learned how to press flowers after the first bracelet, and now keeps the small crafts in the otherwise untouched “my first bible” that lives in her nightstand.

LAURA LEE who was initially only willing to let herself do anything more than making out with jackie if she was giving, not recieving. she made the decision one night when they were doing their usual routine and jackie started softly whining into the taller girls mouth. that switched something in her.

she pulled back, pupils blown and just staring into jackie’s. jackie FREAKED, never wanting to push her past the limits of her comfort zone or faith. apologies start tumbling out of her mouth, and she begins crawling off of her lap, until-
