samira mohan // jack abbot | rated e | 2.8 words | gifted to @mvnicabarbaro
Her smile froze as she recognized a familiar figure at the bar, engrossed in a conversation with the bartender. It couldn’t be—
As if sensing her gaze, Jack Abbot chose that moment to look up, his eyebrows lifting as they made eye contact. Samira’s lips dropped open into a small “oh” as she took him in, looking comfortable in a dark sweater and jeans.
samira goes on a blind date. the universe has other plans.
s2 idea:
samira fighting with a pulled muscle all day - visibly trying to stretch her arm over her head, roll her neck, etc etc etc. says she must have slept on it wrong, no big deal, yes she popped a couple of aleve, continues to be the best damn doctor the entire shift
and then in the final episode of the season, the camera lingers on her as she leaves for the day and she’s digging her fingers into the side of her neck again to try and get that muscle to release, and then abbot falls into step beside her and walks with her a moment, no words exchanged. when he does speak, it’s not until they’re outside in the parking lot and he says, nonchalantly but with that twinkle in his eye:
“I ordered a better pillow for you. think it’s the same as that fancy one you’ve got at your place.”
“thanks,” she replies, curling her pinky finger around his. “thought I might borrow your bathtub tonight, too.”
“course,” he says, and the camera’s on her face as she smiles down at the ground. the lens blurs on her and then focuses on abbot’s face past her shoulder as he smiles over at her. “i’ll even cook you dinner while you soak.”
she gasps teasingly, nose wrinkling as she looks up at him with a bright grin. “really, dr. abbot? such excellent bathside manner. I think your scores are going to be top notch.”
“cute,” he mutters, acting like he isn’t falling head over heels in love by the second. we watch him pause at the driver’s door of his jeep and see him shake his head fondly, listening to the sound of her laughter as he quietly adds, “real fuckin’ cute.”
and that’s it, that’s how we find out they’ve been dating.
abbot/mohan, established, thunderstorms & rooftops & trauma

It’s a rainy day at PTMC.
One of those days when it starts raining pretty steadily, but no one’s really concerned about the storm. It’s a typical summer washout, one that grows quickly and dies just as fast. They’re all busy, all focused on the work, stepping carefully around small puddles near the ambulance entrance of the ED.
Jack goes out to help unload a patient, breathes in the scent of rain on the air, rolls his neck, and then —
c r a c k.
The clap of thunder is so sudden, so fucking loud, that the earth feels like it’s shaking. It startles all of them, pulls a gasp from the EMT next to him, and Jack —
— the ground is shaking and his ears are ringing and the air no longer smells like rain, it smells like the exhaust of a diesel engine and the copper tang of blood, and his chest is tightening and he can’t fucking breathe and he can’t be buried here, he won’t stay stuck down here, he needs to get to the surface so he can breathe, he just needs to breathe —
he runs toward the stairwell, wet shoes squeaking against the floor the entire way.
//
(Jack’s always insisted that noise isn’t much of a trigger for him. He can handle it — perks of being an emergency medicine doctor, perhaps. Accustomed to the unknown, able to explain away sudden sound or unexpected shouts.
Maybe it’s just been a long day. Hell, maybe it’s just an off day.
The thunder rolls and leaves in seconds, but Jack keeps playing it on a loop in his head.
It starts to sound like the detonation of a bomb.
It starts to feel like being buried under rubble.)

Robby tries.
“Jack, c’mon. Let’s get you back inside. I’ve got dry scrubs, man. We’ll go slow.”
Dana tries.
“You’re gonna get yourself sick, Abbot! Come in outta the rain, yeah?”
Trinity even tries.
“Dude, you’re standing on the edge of a rooftop in the rain. Staring out over the city. It’s giving Batman in the worst way. I’m gonna send Ellis pictures if you don’t come back in.”
Samira’s the last to try.
oh, hey 💜 —
abbot struggling to orgasm bc meds, right? it’s a rare thing, but not a never thing. samira, naturally, isn’t deterred in the slightest when they start hooking up casually —
(so casually, they insist - y’know, like liars)
— and jack might have trouble coming, but he’s going to make goddamn sure samira never has trouble again. ever. she will come whenever and however she needs.
(and, y’know, there’s a whole subplot here about them discovering and choosing nonsexual intimacy together before they’re even properly dating)
anyway.
when he does come for the first time with samira, it’s the biggest release of tension he’s had in years. it builds and builds and he can’t articulate it as it’s happening, but samira can tell he’s close. rasps out a ‘oh my god, you’re gonna come in me, aren’t you? fuck, jack, c’mon. c’mon. you got this.’
she scratches blunt nails down his back, between his shoulders where he can feel it to the small of his back where the nerves are so fucked that he can’t. gasps her name and stills inside her for the most intense orgasm of his life.
one that is also accompanied by an orgasm headache, spreading from the base of his skull up around to his temples and down the length of his neck.
“talk dirty to me” but it’s just reading medical journals aloud to each other
mohan & abbot, probably, 2k25
on the one hand, jack and samira happily never having kids and enjoying that their family is the two of them and more than enough
on the other hand, jack and samira unexpectedly getting pregnant and marveling at how the medicine feels more like a miracle when she's holding a tiny lil newborn with curly, dark hair
on the other hand, jack and samira planning for a baby and struggling to get pregnant, fighting against 'the medicine is what saves you' when it isn't working to save either of them
on the other hand, jack and samira planning for a baby and getting pregnant right away, keeping it hidden for as long as possible 'just in case' but really, it's because samira doesn't want to upset heather
on the other hand, jack and samira recognizing that their schedules are shit and neither of them are willing to adjust their hours, but samira starts volunteering in the NICU when she can and jack starts coaching little league with robby (because of course he and heather get their happy ending, too)
