Joey Knox
Joey Knox during his opening of his show titled: "What's Your Address" at Jackson Junge Gallery in Chicago. Runs from May 2 - July 6, 2014.
"Hi. Tell me how this series started, what motivated you about this series and the name of this series?"
"So this group of art that I'm seeing now is just a sample. You've worked with this idea in many different ways?"
"Usually in different ways. This, I think is probably more literal embodiment of actual physical homes and consumerism in that direct link."
"Very good, thank you."
"Oh sure."
"Another favorite question of mine to ask . . . you as an artist, what is art to you?"
"Hmm, ahhh that's such a big question. I guess for me, not to be overly reductive, but for me in a lot of ways, art is kind of like visual problem solving."
"Ok, I like that."
"Art is something that I . . . I had a conversation with my mother, who unfortunately couldn't be here at the show, but she was wishing me congratulations and she said: 'she wish she could see it myself.' And I said: 'for me that would have been so great because there's no words, I never articulate the emotional feeling of all the work together.' To me it's something that can never be articulated in anything but other than itself."
"Interesting, very interesting, thank you very much. Your website is . . ."
"Absolutely, my pleasure. www.joeyknoxart.com."
