Bonus Week
Day 6 - Northern Lights
For 3 centuries and counting, ice spirit Jack Frost has, frankly, had absolutely no clue why he exists. Humans--which he theoretically was once--are born. Jack was pulled from an icy pond, told his name, and left to fend for himself.
When he hears word of some kind of “magical energy” accumulating around the aurora borealis--possibly the whispers of spirits older than the Man in the Moon himself--he vows to do whatever he can to be there, hoping for the answers he’s craved for so long. Upon learning the energy is strongest on the winter solstice, Jack seeks out an abandoned cabin in prime viewing range and plans the trip of a lifetime--or the trip of an after-lifetime, as it were.
Accompanying him on his journey is his only friend in the whole world--a spring spirit named Rapunzel who found herself in much the same situation. “Chosen” by the sun and then left invisible to most of the same people she makes warm breezes and grows flowers for, she knows something of Jack’s loneliness and existential anguish. If the northern lights hold the key to Jack’s purpose, maybe they can tell her something about hers, too.
They make a vacation out of the excursion, stringing the cabin with lights and festive decor and flying through beautiful snowy, moonlit forests. However, there are dark secrets about Jack and Rapunzel’s eternal condition laid out in the sky’s celestial green folds, and delving too deep may make them feel more lost and uncertain than ever. And on top of it all, a certain nightmare king worries that these fresh-faced, hopeful young spirits could threaten his power, and will do whatever he must to keep them from learning too much...
AKSHABODYG this prompt incidentally made me SO HAPPY because I actually had a leftover northern lights picture that didn’t make it into the Snow on the Beach moodboard (because of the “aurora borealis green” line and whatnot) aND THEN THIS PROMPT SHOWED UP AND I GOT TO USE IT HERE HELL YEAH
I’m actually like. Kinda in love with how this came out :O Something about the deep purple + neon green combination is so O_____O Like it reminds me ofsour candy somehow!!! I just wanna eat it!!! But idk, maybe it also kinda reminds me of cyberpunk??? Either way, very cool. Lots of good associations for these wild little colors <3
Tbh I actually kinda really like all the last-minute moodboards I made for Jackunzel month bonus week??? Like apparently I can make pretty fire content when I do it completely impulsively and am rushing like hell??? I don’t like this. I’m ADHD, I’m not supposed to work well under pressure, it makes me stressed XD But in this weird specific case I guess I do??? Wild.
Anyways, yes. Jack and Rapunzel going on a friggin freezing cold northern lights-viewing vacation, staying in a quaint little cabin, and going on the actual coldest and snowiest hikes humanly possible while drinking hot chocolate out of a thermos, like if you agree. Like I feel like it doesn’t matter whether they’re humans or spirits, I think it’s an activity they would enjoy either way, winter and flashy color enthusiasts that they are. Although if Jack is a spirit, he can fly him and Rapunzel up into the sky so they can get the best possible view ;____; Like. I want that so badly for them.
...okay, revising my earlier answer, them seeing the aurora borealis in spirit form is the best scenario XD
