While everyone else is enjoying the party and celebrating Lucy’s award and trying to enjoy themselves, Jack is in a corner pacing and nervously mumbling to himself. He and Cana decided to come clean with Gildarts and confess that they have sorta been a thing for a good while. They just never admitted it before because of how protective Gildarts is of his daughter and because Cana never wanted to make a big deal of it. By the time Jack is ready to tell Gildarts everything, Cana had already told him which caused Jack to have a panic attack. Thinking that Gildarts would be furious, he instead puts his arms around both Cana and Jack declaring how happy he was that his daughter found herself a fiance which causes both Jack and Cana to become embarrassed. Cana snaps at Gildarts telling him that Jack is not a her fiance. At this point, Jack is mentally shot and has absolutely checked out emotionally. Gildarts then tells him that he knows that Jack has been at Cana’s side all this time protecting her and making her happy. He expects Jack to continue to protect her and keep her happy and safe. He knows that Cana’s mother would feel the same if she were still here. Touched by this, Jack blinks a few times in disbelief and thanks Gildarts. Gildarts then asks the couple how many grandkids they plan on giving him and if he can teach them Crash Magic. Cana snaps and berates Gildarts telling him he is thinking about grandkids way too soon while Jack just faints from anxiety. Jack awakens with his head resting on Cana’s lap. She explains what happened and jokingly states that clearly he had drank too much. Jack looks up at Cana and admits that he is still trying to get adjusted to a normal life. Emotions and expressing himself has never been an easy task for him and he still struggles with his demons to this day. But he hopes that Cana knows exactly how he feels about her. She simply places a finger to his lips to shush him and nods, acknowledging Jack’s feelings.
