The moment she reached up to place a hand on his shoulder, he was able to catch her hand in his just as she was pulling back. In response he gave her hand a soft squeeze. Just enough pressure to affirm her gesture seconds earlier. "Thank you. Thank you for never giving up on me so far..." he said softly, his face flushing red. He couldn't quite pin why he always felt like this around her. He always felt safe with her and she always gave him a warm feeling. It was almost as if she wasn't going to let anyone or anything bring him down. Jack himself was an extremely formidable individual. He wasn't once known as Jack The Ripper and he didn't earn the monicker of Fairy Tail's Lightning Wolf for nothing. But when Cana was around, he felt like nothing could touch him. Not even the nightmares that plagued him at night.
"Well, it's funny you mention packing. I already have a bag packed already that I keep here in the guild hall just in case. You know, if I ever have to leave in a hurry."
"I've told you before and I'll say it as many times as I have to, to get it through that thick skull of yours, Jack. You're stuck with me,"
Cana meant it too. No matter how hard he tried [if he ever did] to push her away or get her to leave him alone she'd stick by him. They were friends. She valued all of her friends no matter how tough they were on themselves. She knew they were more than they gave themselves credit for and he was no different.
"Oh? Well, I guess I'll have to grab my bag and we can meet at the train in about twenty minutes, sound good?"
She was looking forward to showing him how to relax and have fun. Who knows, maybe she'd even manage to get him to smile at least once. She could only hope.

He agreed with her and thus they went their separate ways until it was time for them to meet up.
Twenty minutes had passed and Jack was already at the train station waiting for Cana as he was pacing around nervously with a backpack strapped to his back. What was he pacing around for? Better yet, what was he nervous about? This wasn't his first time alone with Cana. They had gone on jobs together and had gone drinking together before in the past. So why was he nervous this time. Maybe because this felt more like a social outing with Cana? Wait....was this a date??? At the mere thought of the possibility if this was a date, his face flushed red completely and he began to pace even faster and more intensely.

"Healing crystals and charged rocks..." he repeated as he crossed his arms and just examined the box before taking a seat back on the couch as he waited for Cana to return. There was one thing that he did like about Cana's place; it was certainly much more inviting and homey. Definitely way more than his place: a studio apartment located underneath a local pub with just the bare essentials needed to live as comfortably as possible. Often times, he felt embarrassed whenever Cana came over to his place. Almost like he felt he should provide her with something just as comfortable and homey.
"Do these crystals and rocks actually work? Some sort of magic I have never heard of?"
"Yes, healing crystals and charged rocks, Jack,"
Cana would chuckle at his response to her telling him what lay inside the iron box. It was a special box crafted specifically to hold those crystals and rocks for her to use. Would she mention that? Not likely. She had plenty of friends who gave or made her things all the time. There were even small metallic and wooden sculptures on the bookshelf in her living room.
"Yes, they actually work. Would you like me to use the 'destress' rocks on you? Maybe it'll help you lighten up."
She'd stick her tongue out briefly and he'd know by her tone that she was merely teasing him but if he wanted her to use the destressing rocks on him she'd be happy to. However, it'd likely only be after the offered massage first.

"If you think they will actually help." he replied to her as he took a seat back on the nearby couch. Jack had zero knowledge about any of this. So this time he would assume that she was serious about their actual worth and healing properties since this was not his field of expertise. Not by a long shot. "Thank you again for being willing to give this a try with me. I honestly know nothing about any of this so I am in your hands here." he told her as he removed his jacket and draped it over a nearby chair. "So how does this work?"

He sighed at Cana's offer about going to Akane Resort. She was right. She's been right so far. He had gone through so much in his youth and it was no surprise why he was the way he was. Why he seemed to always have such a miserable demeanor or "mopey" as she called it. "I guess I'm still adjusting to normalcy so it's taking me a while." he commented to her. "Okay, we can go to Akane Resort. What the hell? Why not? Maybe you can show me how to have some fun." he continued as he looked over at her for a moment. He had no idea why she always made him feel at peace or safe.
"Hey, Cana. Would it...would it be okay if whenever I feel ready, I could, maybe, tell you about my past?" he asked her as he started to blush hard but maintained that stoic expression as best as possible. "If you want to hear it, that is."
"Taking a while to get used to normalcy is fine, Jack. You don't need to rush things. I know there are things, reasons, for you being the way you are and that's fine,"
Cana would lay her hand on his shoulder and give it a brief squeeze before retracting her hand unless he managed to get her to leave it there. She knew not everyone was fond of touchy-feely things like that. Jack had an enigmatic and dark past that she knew next to nothing about but if anyone, literally, anyone tried to badmouth Jack and she was in earshot they'd get an earful. No one talked trash about her friends if she was around to defend them.
"Awesome. If we head to our respective places now we can be packed before the last train leaves for the night. Sure, it'll take a few hours to get there but it'll be nice. I'll get us one of the small private seating areas."
Her lips would curl into a wide smile that quickly morphed into a grin as he said she could show him how to have fun. She'd take that challenge for sure. She knew that he wasn't used to being able to relax or have fun so she wanted to show him what both were like. Who knows, maybe it'd help him a bit. She's turn her full attention back onto him as he spoke once more. The offer of him telling her about his past was surprising, but she would nod her head prior to speaking aloud once more.
"Of course, whenever you're ready and not a moment sooner. I'll be willing to listen without any amount of judgement. Because no matter what, Jack, you're my friend and I'll remain by your side until you're sick of me."

"Scent preference?" he repeated her question about what sort of oils he liked using. "Honestly, Cana, you're probably asking the wrong person. I would probably say something dumb along the lines of the smell of gunfire or something weird like that. So you choose for me. This is your expertise." he replied. It was as honest of an answer as he could give. Jack could tell you all about pressure points, where to strike a bone to cause a perfect break, the right equipment to use for a stealth job, or interrogation methods to get people to finally break. But when it came to stuff like this, he was like a newborn calf. Absolutely inexperienced with something as simple as walking. And it was the same with massages and body oils. He then spotted the iron box on a nearby shelf as he stood up to look at it curiously. It was quite shiny. "Hey, Cana. What's inside this here box thingie?" he called out.
"Mm, I didn't think of that. Alright then, I'll grab a few of the bottles of massage oil and bring them out here. I have a feeling you're going to prefer a spicy scent, maybe cinnamon or ginger. Something like that,"
Of course, she could be wrong since his preferred drink was an appletini of all things, but Cana had a pretty good judge on what scents worked well with what sorts of people. He struck her as someone who would like woodier or spicy scents. She'd grab a few that weren't spices, like pine, patchouli, and sandalwood as well. Just to see what he'd like. If nothing else she could always make a mix just for him. She'd done it before for other friends. Since she'd already walked out of the room when he called out about the box she'd let out a soft snort at the way he worded the question before poking her head out of her bedroom.
"It's some healing crystals and charged rocks, Jack."
After she grabbed the bottles she mentioned of the oils she'd join him back in the living room. The bottles were fairly large but she often bought large quantities of the oils because she helped a lot of her friends relax by massaging them.

He followed Cana inside her home. He had been here already quite a few times when he and Cana would return late from drinking together or if they were both on a job together and Jack was too tired to go back to his own place. But he always couldn't help but look around to see if anything has changed since the last time he was here. "You alright if I take off my shoes?" he asked her as he started to remove his jacket and slung it on top of the nearest sofa before taking a seat at that same sofa.
Cana's place had changed a little bit, she had a shelf that housed more of the magic cards she used but with different designs, as well as her reading card collection, and healing crystals. She also had an iron box of some kind on the shelf with something inside it. What was it? Well, Jack would have to ask her.
"Yes, please. Thank you for asking, but you should know my house rules by now, Jack,"
She was teasing him, obviously, but she always took her shoes off at the door. She either walked in her socks, or, on colder days, she'd wear the super soft and warm house slippers Lucy got her. There was even a pair that was large enough for Jack. When the brunette asked Lucy about it, the blonde merely smirked and said she'd need them someday.
"Make yourself comfortable. I'm going to grab some oils to use on your back and neck, alright? You got a scent preference?"
She knew how to give massages and that was one of the reasons he'd come to her place. Rather than giving him one in the guild hall she'd give him one here, and if he fell asleep then she'd cover him with a blanket and let him rest for a bit. She'd likely cook something to eat while he rested so that when he woke up there was something tasty waiting.

That obviously didn't mean Cana was just going to give up on him. Jack was her friend and as such she cared about him quite a bit. She wanted to show him that there was so much more to life than sitting in the dark and keeping to himself all the time. She was just at a bit of a loss as to just HOW to help him. He, more often than not, didn't seem willing to accept most help.
"Why don't you and I go to Akane Resort for a small break? Do you think that'll make you feel less... dead inside?"
Of course, she didn't know his whole story. Or much about his past prior to joining Fairy Tail but that didn't mean she was just going to give up on him. She was determined to help him in whatever way she could, and who could say no to a getaway to Akane?

Violet eyes would widen initially before going back to as normal of an appearance as Cana could get them. Much more extraordinary than she gives herself credit for? What? She was Gildarts' daughter, sure, but that in itself didn't mean she was anything particularly special. Besides, the only 'real' ability she had that set her apart from most of the others was her ability to drink like a fish and no die.
"Jack, I think you're confusing me with someone else. There's not really anything to write home about regarding me,"
She viewed herself as a member of the guild, sure, but other than that she didn't think she was anything overly special. She never had. If it weren't for Lucy stepping in during the last S-Class trial, the brunette had been planning on leaving the guild. Because she didn't feel that she was worthy of being in it if she couldn't reach the rank of S-Class back then. She was now, of course, but it had been a long and tumultuous road to get to where she was. She had all her friends and 'cheerleaders' to thank for her even getting to where she was.
"I'm curious though, what do you see in me that I'm unable to see myself?"

His face flushed a little bit at her question. He honestly felt like Cana would simply laugh it off or would start bragging in a joking matter. So imagine his surprise when she actually asked him what he meant by him. He kept his eyes forward but didn't make eye contact with her initially. But then he sighed and finally made eye contact with her.
"Your Card Magic is impressive enough as it is as you can come up with so many different combinations for them to use in any situation. You've gotten all of us out of a pinch multiple times because of your card magic. I don't even have to mention Fairy Glitter because we all know how powerful that is alone." he started off by going through the basic stuff about her magic. But he decided to go a little deeper. He was very good at reading people and studying them. "I think what makes you so much more special is...that..." he paused for a moment and sighed to compose himself. He wasn't good at expressing himself still. "You're always the first to lighten a situation no matter how grim it can be. Even if you still make a smartass comment out of it, you still do your best to lift others' spirits. You...also always follow through on what you say you're going to do." he said as he looked away for a moment to look at his glass. His heartbeat was beating rapidly right now from how much he was disclosing to her. "You go out of your way for those you care about and you never give up on them. Never. Just like how you've never given up on me even when everyone was still terrified of me when I joined a few years back." he said as he inched his seat a little closer to her. "And for that, I will always be grateful to you." he said as his hand was so close to hers on the table. "That's what I like about you...and what I think makes you very special." he added as he finally looked at her from the corner of his eye to see how she was responding. Would she recoil? Would she laugh at him?
