  Karin: OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. DO YOU KNOW THE STORY BEHIND THIS SONG? IT'S SO FUCKING SWEET AND SAD. I SOBBED SO HARD MY HUSBAND WAS LIKE, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? STOP WATCHING THAT." AND I WAS LIKE "I like it." A husband wrote this song for his wife who had recently passed away and they had been married for like 75 years. Jesus. I am crying again. It's what music is supposed to be. 10/10

Oh Sweet Lorraine, sung by Jacob Colgan, written by Fred Stobaugh

What do you get when you put memories from a marriage of 73 years into a song? A hit that will put you next to mega stars like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Fred Stobaugh did just that. After he lost his wife in April, Fred penned down an ode to his wife, Lorraine. It was aptly titled "Oh Sweet Lorraine". He then passed it to Jacon Colgan, who owns a recording studio- Green Shoe Studio. Jacob, touched by Fred's story, then sang and produced the song.

The video to the song was a smash hit. It’s currently been viewed nearly 4 million times, and the story of Stobaugh’s moving ode to his wife has been reported in numerous publications, including in Britain. "Oh Sweet Lorraine" has made it to the iTunes top 10 last month, alongside "Applause" by Lady Gaga and "Roar" by Katy Perry.

Fred Stobaugh is also now the oldest artist to have a song on Billboard‘s top 100 — beating out 85-year-old Tony Bennett, no less

96-Year-Old Songwriter Impresses Nation With Homage To His Late Wife

“Oh sweet Lorraine, I wish we could do all the good times over again,” begin the lyrics that 96-year old Fred Stobaugh of Illinois wrote following the passing of his wife, whom he married in 1938.

The song, “Oh Sweet Lorraine,” is about Stobaugh’s love for his wife and the seventy-three years they spent together. He mailed his lyrics into Green Shoes Studios’ songwriter contest, where Jacob Colgan took notice of the entry and decided to bring the words to life.

A bit flummoxed how this little diddy has been in the iTunes Top 10 songs for a couple days now...but it's so sweet I'm not complaining. 

And it's story is even sweeter, as dear Mr. Fred Stobaugh wrote it as an ode to losing his wife of 73 years.
