About the Wei Family
To protect Jacob, their father, Arvin Wei, was killed in a Death Eater attack on Muggles, when Joslyn was only three years old.
After their father's death, their mother, Iris Wei, a Squib, had to work even harder in the Muggle world to support her two children, while Jacob took on the responsibility of caring for his younger sister.

Joslyn is more talented than Jacob, but she felt troubled and guilty about reading others' minds, so she shut it down after she entered Hogwarts.
Jacob and Joslyn have a special bond/connection between them so they can mentally communicate when they are around each other.
