For as long as she can remember, she’d hate it whenever her hair got too long (shoulder-length was her limit). One time when she was 6, she tried cutting it short herself. The end result made her dad nearly burst a blood vessel.
She hasn’t seen or spoken to her father since her parents divorced when she was 14. And if you ask her, if she never sees him again, it’ll be too soon.
Unlike Krupp, she didn’t let any of the negativity that life threw at her (and trust me, there was a lot) crush her inner child or sense of fun. If anything, they only grew stronger, especially after she became a mom.
Ever since they were kids, Krupp saw her as the sister he never had. And while she may be a head shorter than him, she’s actually older than him (by only a week, but still).
While she’s no longer married to her ex-husband Key, they still consider each other family. And they do still love each other in a sense, they’re just not in love anymore. Part of her sometimes wonders if they ever loved each other more than platonically to begin with...
On her first day as art teacher, she managed to get Tommy to willingly come out of his locker, which was a near-impossible feat for the other teachers.
While the students absolutely love her, she comes across as a bit eccentric and childish to most of the JHES staff. Why Krupp would hire an oddball like her, they’ll never know.
Unlike when Captain got his superpowers, Sawyer, or rather Rebel Artist, had a harder time getting a hold on some of hers, specifically flying. And once she did get the hang of it, it was landing she then had trouble with. She would kinda look like this whenever she tried to land safely:
As kids, Krupp was the one who had to get Sawyer to stop daydreaming and focus when they were in school. But in the case of Captain Underpants and Rebel Artist when they’re crime fighting, the roles are reversed.
Unlike George and Harold, Sawyer doesn’t see Krupp and Captain as two separate people/personalities. She sees Cap as who Krupp really is in his heart; the sweet, curious, and fun Benny she’s known since they were children. He’s just been suppressed by years of hurt, loneliness and bitterness.
Sawyer feels slightly guilty about Krupp being the way he is now. She feels that if maybe she had moved back to Piqua sooner, things might’ve been a little different. But at the same time, she believes that some things happen for a reason.
Has both ADHD and is on the Autism spectrum.
She’s sensitive to loud noises and can get nervous in highly crowded areas, so she prefers eating lunch anywhere other than the cafeteria.
While she loves watching lightning storms, she’s terrified of thunder.
She loves watching any type of movies that has monsters in them, specifically ones made with practical effects. She’s always admired the hard work and imagination that goes into them.
Can let her emotions get the better of her at times, which has resulted in her getting into fights.
Is constantly drawing new characters and coming up with unique backstories for them.
When she showed George and Harold one of her own comics, they quickly made her a “partner” in Treehouse Comix, Inc., much her her surprise and delight.
After her fight with the sixth-graders that were bullying Melvin, Krupp gives her the nickname “Bruiser”. And after she sees his teeth go sharp for the first time, she starts calling him “Jaws”. She’s the only student allowed to call him that.
Is as big a daydreamer as his mom, and has a very active imagination. (Think Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes)
Has an imaginary friend named Oz, who looks like a 10-foot-tall monster plushie.
Became fast friends with Robby Hoskins (the little boy who sees all the crazy stuff that goes on throughout the book series). And unlike Robby’s mom, Benny believes him.
Like George, he learned to read and write at an early age.
Quickly became a fan of the Captain Underpants comics, to the point that he starts wearing his red baby blanket like a cape. Sawyer finds it adorable.
Gets along really well with his big sister Jade, to the point that he sometimes comes to her if he had a nightmare.
Is the only kindergartener at JHES who is not scared of Krupp. In fact, he absolutely adores him.
Sometimes during nap time, he actually sneaks out of his classroom to go to Krupp’s office just because he wants to see him. During one of these instances, he wasn’t there, so Benny simply waited there for him, and wound up falling asleep. Krupp had to carry him back to the kindergarten classroom. Most of the teachers did a double take at the sight of Krupp actually being gentle with a child. Both Ms. Anthrope and Mr. Meaner actually spit out their drinks in shock. Edith, on the other hand, thought it was the cutest thing she’d ever seen.
