it's like grandpa iron lungs absorbed it into his body to become more powerful

So i saw the thing you reblogged about Derek being chill and just "whatever" I think that might be a sign he is more broken than we think. I mean he's just kind of accepted things. Like him being chill is him giving up? Like its gonna happen anyway...might as well accept it? And if he "says" hes ok with it its like a way for him to still have some control over things?

huh. that's interesting thought. i actually never considered that. 

but i don't think derek being "chill" is the same as him being apathetic. perhaps if this was season 2 or 3. season 2-3 derek, to me, was way more apathetic. he had to struggle with becoming an alpha and then, ultimately, failing. 

his pack, the pack he made himself--Isaac, Erica, Boyd--fell to pieces. two of them died, and one of them died on his claws. 

the alpha pack defeated him at every turn. peter was yet again up for betrayal. scott was slowly but surely become a true alpha, an alpha of the ages, and derek was constantly being reminded that he was not Talia. 

then later add in jennifer black and her betrayal and i'm honestly surprised derek just didn't give up and lie down and die then. 

but he didn't. 

he kept moving, kept growing, and at the end of s4 we see he was evolving. 

i think that derek being "chill" was just him growing up, him coming to terms with himself, going back to what he was like before kate, before the fire, before being alone. 

i think him being chill was him trying to have a pack again, just not by force this time
