name something you really like about each of your top ships, like what makes each one appealing for example, or a little trope they have that makes it fun

( ren + sage ) is always going to have a special place in my heart because it was one of the first ships on this blog developed to the extent it has been, and joxxy has become one of my best friends. you’re going to see this as a reoccurring theme in my ships, but ren and sage share the moon / sun motif through their hc’d religions, which i am absolutely weak for. this relationship is interesting because ren is often considered the more level headed of the pair but in comparison to sage ren is actually more childish. even though they’re quiet and stoic, they still spark up debate about their conflicting views, and are just generally comfortable around one another even in silence. @dasosaei

( ren + blake ) is technically a new thing, but kate and i have been shipping it for a very very long time, which frustrates me a little that we’re only talking now when we’ve been following each other for around two years at this point. i feel like i’ve deprived myself of a lovely influence. similarly to ren and sage i like blake and ren because these characters find so much solace in the quiet, that they find themselves communicating more easily through action, expression, and reading between the lines. at the same time, intellectuals are coaxed into conversations with people fascinated by the same things. they don’t need to be talking all the time to be comfortable with one another, but they do anyway. plus, blake and ren both have morbid humour and fascinations which i find endearing and amusing, plus the snark these two could dish out would be extraordinary. + blake might find ren quoting sonnets at her cheesy, but she also finds them charming which is? cute af. @forgerous

( ren + blake + sage ) i’m already 2000% down for this ship. the fact that ren and blake deadpan @ sage with literotica is already my favourite thing in the world. the three of them have an understanding as the brooding bookworms of their teams and i love it, i love it, i love it.

( ren + jaune ) i’ve just ranted about mar/tial ar/cs tbh but i’m! always ready! for more! jaune and ren also share the sun/moon dynamic to some degree, and honestly how can i not love the idea of two awkward boys with crushes on one another falling in love. ren is a voice of reason to jaune’s emotional breaks, and jaune acts as a support and shield to ren’s endeavours. they’re in tune to one another, by this point, i’d even go as far as to consider them best friends. i love this ship whether it is platonic or romantic. luckily i have shi, who is more than happy to indulge me in any scenario and au that i want with a surplus of incredible ideas of her own. @saintlyhilt

( ren + nerissa ) i’m especially fond of the way this relationship developed because it was almost /all/ through writing before middy and i started speaking. and i! love! writing with middy even though her responses are long as fuck and each incredible quality and sometimes she dumps angst down without telling me, or telling me, and i goad her, and she does it, and i have instant regrets but it’s really fun? this relationship developed naturally and the dynamic between these two kind of takes ‘long distance relationship’ to the extreme. i think it’s my only ship with someone who is not a huntsman or a fighter so it’s significantly different to all my other ships. ren? adored nerissa before she lost her voice, but he came to know her and love her regardless of it. nerissa feels like home to him. + their sneaking around while nerissa is technically meant to be engaged to someone else is always a fun trope. @seiriina

( ren + mercury ) i think? that at one point— i’m paraphrasing but rice said something along the lines of ‘mercury fills ren’s bad boy quota’. i’m too lazy to look back through the ims but i trust in my memory. ren’s relationship with mercury is just /fun/ to write for so many reasons. putting aside the fact that we have the typical hero char wanting something/ fascinated with he shouldn’t have, the enemies with benefits thing, or the spars turned bloody make outs (which are all good things, definitely all good things), their dynamic is fun. the both of them have varying levels of maturity; ren being mature in behaviour, priss and poised and the like, but at the same time, he’s inexperienced and naive about the world and people. mercury is an immature child who likes taking photos of people tripping, but he’s also gone through so much hardship and remains mostly emotionally stable because there isn’t a lot that phases him. mercury brings out ren’s snark, and pettiness, and childishness and mercury takes amusement from that. apart from being ren’s learning curve with physical intimacy, sometimes i still wonder what mercury takes from that. i think he might like the fact that ren needs him, goes out of his way to admit that he wants mercury, wants to be by his side with little regard to his faults and accepts him for who he is? i’m still not sure, and neither is ren, but i guess that fascination is what attracted ren in the first place. @basedmercury

( ren + lusun ) writing and talking to crownless is always fun tbh. even though there isn’t a lot of writing being done, the backstory behind ren and asper’s relationship is extensive. the both of them might seem emotionally stunted most of the time but asper is an unpredictable rage machine with unpredictable, lewd, sometimes violent mannerisms. at the same time, while it’s not visible around anyone except asper’s ship partner’s he’s affectionate and brutally honest and incredibly loyal, and he has the kind of mood fluctuation that would give ren whiplash. the both of them are similar in some traditions because of culture and a lot of behaviouralisms because they’re just sleepy and done 100% of the time, but they’re endearing. ren might seem like a glorified babysitter a lot of the time, especially when he’s pulling asper away from fights and explaining how you can’t fucking pay people in shiny rocks, but asper is there when ren needs him, his constant flirting and lack of tact amuses ren, his over the top affection and tendency to announce his love bluntly never fails to make ren feel wanted, needed. @jadedjade

they sneered because the rocky cadence of their voice, all grit and gravel, sharp like glass, cold as stone, could at least shroud the scared tremble hidden amongst the syllables. who they’d felt affection for, and was just beginning to trust wasn’t who they appeared to be at all. was his name actually asper   ?   and how much of what he’d said, what he’d done   ...   how much of his lingered touches had been lies manifested   ?   how much of it had been real   ?   ren’s far more selfish than they let on, and they hurt far more than they would ever willingly admit. when they should have been sympathising over her team’s, over stizza’s loss, they were instead focused on their own heart fracturing. to think ren had ever fantasised about letting asper in.

they knew betrayal, loss, and tragedy. but ren hadn’t known the consequences of that brief, fleeting romance, of whispered words they could still feel whispered into the vulnerable flesh of their neck. they shuddered at the idea of how easily sharpened canines could have torn into that sick love - addled weakness. ren felt this only fitting, how there was no warmth to their goodbye. ankle deep in unforgiving snow, they wondered whether they were better off knowing if asper had lived or died. maybe the dragon would have been better off blissfully unaware what had truly happened, at least in that state of mind they could believe and mourn. it would hurt, because it was real, and they’d found someone they’d suffer the turmoil of heartbreak for.
