Teapot Tuesday! Haha OK, maybe it’s just my own imagination, but I roughly see a teapot in this very rare and large polished Lavender Jadeite from Turkey. Lavender Jadeite from a China has long been coveted but often is dyed. Making sure you purchase a genuine specimen can be difficult and expensive. The material from Turkey does not carry as high a concern of enhancement and tends to have wonderful colors and patterns. Usually the largest pieces we see would fit in your plam. Stones if this size are not seen frequently. This is the largest we have had in our 25 years. This and smaller pieces will be available on our Live Sales this Fri. April 3rd at 6pm & Sat. During the Depression, when families couldn't afford to waste a crumb, glassware companies turned out inexpensive jadeite containers for flour, salt, and other ingredients. Those with their original lids are some of the most desirable today. In the 1940s and 1950s, jadeite became quite common and sold in hardware stores and five-and-tens. Sometimes a piece of jadeite would be included in a bag of flour or a box of oatmeal as an inducement to the consumer to buy the rest of the set. Today, jadeite is a popular—and valuable— collectible. First created in the 1930s, jadeite is used for all types of things but most commonly dishwater and kitchenware. It first became popular in the Victorian era then fell out of style for a time until World War II when glass companies found it could be stylish plus affordable to make. Jadeite is the gorgeous green milk glass found in so many antique malls flea markets and old Victorian homes.
