JaeXReader : College! AU
Jae throws his hands up in exasperation, sighing loudly. His breath puffs into a cloud, vanishing into the darkness of the night. You look over at your boyfriend, whose head is almost buried inside the car's open hood. "Is it that bad, baby?" you question as you get out of the passenger seat to join Jae infront of the stationary car. As you take a look at the busted engine, you realize that the two of you are pretty much stranded. Jae seems to realize this at the same time you do, and he nods and pushes up his glasses, though you see his shoulders sag at the unfortunate turn of events.
Even though you rub your gloved hands down Jae's back and try to soothe him, you know that a winding mountainside road in a foreign country isn't the most ideal place to be stranded. Especially with snow threatening to fall heavily any minute. What a way to be spending the last few days of winter break away from college. Looking around, you notice a small town with what appears to be one large, well lit building a few kilometers down the road, and your heart seizes with the hope that you won't be stuck here all night.
Tugging on Jae's longer fingers, you excitedly point towards the building in the distance, and he turns to look. Even if it is a little far off, you'd take walking the extra distance over having to sleep in the broken car anyday. The cold seems to have seeped in through the heavy padded jacket you're wearing, and a shiver runs down your spine as goosebumps tickle your arms. Jae feels your smaller hand tremble in his, and quickly pulls you into himself, wrapping his lanky frame around you. His voice is muffled and his breath ruffles your hair, but he speaks anyways.
"I'm sorry Y/N, you know I just wanted us to have the perfect ending to our perfect winter holiday. I should have checked the car before we left college, its all my fault."
You push your head further into the familiar warmth of his chest, feeling the comforting rumble of his voice reverbrate through his chest and reach your ears. Pressing your lips to the padding of the parka above his heart, you whisper soft reassurances to him that it's fine, that you are okay, and that he's planned an absolutely wonderful holiday for both of you thus far. Both of you are hesitant to leave the warmth of each other's body in what seems to be such a torturous winter night, but somehow you pull yourself barely away from him, enough to plan out a walking route to the building you saw earlier and to retrieve your most important possessions and a few sets of clothes each from your car that now lies uselessly on the side of the road.
With a smile that you swear could thaw your frozen self out from the inside, Jae drapes his extra parka around your shoulders with a gentlemanly flourish. Some of his usual good humour has returned to him now that the worst of the situation is over, and when you raise your eyebrow in skepticism at his unusual action, Jae bends swiftly at the waist in a felling motion, and takes your gloved hand in his. Raising his gaze to meet yours, he brings your hand to his lips, softly grazing over the back of your palm. You feel the heat of his lips for just a fleeting moment, before he straightens back up and gives you a cheeky smirk, the overhead streetlamp making it seem like his eyes are sparkling at you.
"What was that all about? You never do cute things like that, is your inner theatre nerd finally getting exposed?" you question with a dramatic yet playful gasp. Even so, you can't stop a bashful smile from appearing on your face, and you pray that Jae thinks that the faint color building on your cheeks is because of the biting cold.
Aforementioned smirk still playing on his lips, he chuckles and and says "Just showing my love for the best girlfriend in the world, nothing else.", leaning in to leave a quick peck on the crown of your head. His warm fingers slide underneath the strap of your backpack, and he effortlessly tosses it over his own shoulder, pulling you along to walk to the small town, his hand never leaving yours, even for a moment.
The town you earlier saw is within sight, and the night has completely emerged into full blackness, with the only source of light being the overhead streetlamps. Jae keeps your attention on him, cracking jokes and telling you about the things he wants to do with you once college opens in spring. You realize that Jae will graduate next year, and that you'll still have to study another two years without him on campus with you, and something deep in your heart shrivels up at the thought of not being able to be around him all the time. Before you can stop it, your displeasure flashes across your face. Jae peeks over at you from behind the parka hood and a cloud of messy brown hair, golden highlights catching the slight light of the lights above his head. Tugging you to a stop, he catches the slightly crestfallen look on your face just before you try to erase it.
"What's wrong, Y/N? What did you think of that made you unhappy? Who do I gotta square up with?" Jae asks as he jokingly punches the air infront of the two of you. Still, you can tell that Jae is legitimately worried about what's brought the sudden frown onto your face. When you tell him that you're scared of being alone in school without him for the first time in a few years, a bright smile lights up Jae's face. At the unexpected reaction, your eyebrows furrow further into your forehead, as your mind goes into overdrive to try and understand what Jae meant by his smile. Upon seeing your confusion, Jae laughs, the beautiful sound floating lightly in the air around the two of you.
He bends slightly and reaches around you, and thinking that he's going to give you a warm embrace, you reach your hands around his neck, and let out a whooping laugh when you are lifted off your feet instead. Swinging you around in his arms the way one would with a child, Jae laughs heartily. Your worries seem to instantly vanish, and you whine a little when he finally puts you down, brushing the wind-mussed hair on you forehead behind your ears instead.
You see Jae leaning in, as close as you can get to someone without touching them, and his hands slide up to cup your jaw. His hands are big enough that they frame your face, and you hold your breath in anticipation of his kiss.
Even after a whole year of dating him, and probably thousands of kisses, he still manages to take your breath away like he did on the day you first saw him. His lips ghost and tease, barely even touching yours. Impatiently, you wrap your arms around his neck and bring his lips to yours, but what surprises you is the intensity with which Jae's lips meld into yours. It's as if he's trying to push his love and reassurances into your body through the touch of his lips, and you sigh contentedly against his mouth. Jae's hands slide down your shoulders as the kiss deepens, wrapping around your waist and tugging you against himself. You catch yourself greedily tilting your head against the pressure of his mouth, somehow desperate for more, more of Jae. Despite being in the cold, his lips are impossibly soft, and his tongue teases your bottom lip. As always, Jae seems to miraculously know what you want. As the two of you stand kissing under the streetlights in the otherwise pitch black night, your senses are flooded with everything that is Jae.
The look on his face when you pull away for air makes your heart flutter, and he seems insistent on stealing every kiss you have for him in just one night. "It's going to be fine, babe. I'll still come and see you and pick you up from class and get Starbucks with you, nothing will change between us just because I'll graduate." he says it softly, but you can tell that he means every little word that escapes his now kiss-swollen lips. With a soft peck, the two of you continue in comfortable silence, walking the last few metres to the hotel, where Jae quickly explains the predicament and gets the two of you a room to spend the night.
As the two of you crash onto the fluffy bed, too exhausted to shower or change, you snuggle in Jae's arms, silently thanking god, because despite the unfortunate turn this holiday took, you wouldn't give the memories of tonight for the world.
