top of every class. captain of the soccer team. handsome in that effortless way that makes people turn their heads in the hallway. teachers trust him, classmates admire him, and popularity seems to follow him everywhere without him even trying.

but before all of that, before the crowds and the praise, there had only been three of you.

you grew up together.

you, jaeyun, and niki.

afternoons blurred into evenings in your bedroom while the two boys wrestled across the floor, knocking into your desk and laughing too loudly while you told them to stop. scraped knees from bike rides, late night snacks stolen from your kitchen, summers that felt endless because the three of you were always together.

it had always been like that.

the three of you. always.

until freshman year.

jaeyun became jake to everyone else. the golden boy everyone seemed to love overnight. his name started echoing through hallways, across soccer fields, through conversations you weren’t part of anymore.

and you changed too.

you found new friends, girls who sat with you at lunch, who talked about makeup and gossip and crushes. your world grew bigger, fuller.

the three of you didn’t spend every afternoon together anymore.

niki told himself it didn’t matter.

he still had friends. people who joked with him, people who sat beside him in class.

but they weren’t you.

they didn’t know the way you laughed when jaeyun said something stupid, or how you used to fall asleep halfway through movies when the three of you watched them together.

they weren’t the person niki’s eyes searched for the moment he stepped into a room.

they weren’t you.

the group chat had been quiet for days when your message appeared.

a simple text.

jaeyun and i are dating :)

across town, niki is hunched over the bathroom sink.

your message lights up his phone on the counter, the screen glowing in the dim light. he doesn’t look at it right away. his hands are gripping the porcelain too tightly, knuckles pale as something sharp twists deep in his chest.

it hurts.

not the kind of hurt he can explain.

he coughs.

a small red petal lands in the sink.

for a second, he just stares at it.

another cough follows, harsher this time. more petals fall from his lips, soft and stained with blood, sticking to the white porcelain like something delicate and ruined.

his phone buzzes again.

he already knows what the message says.

you and jaeyun.

of course.

his chest tightens painfully, another petal slipping past his lips as the taste of iron spreads across his tongue.

because it was never just friendship for him.

not when it came to you.

niki grips the edge of the sink, breathing uneven as the petals gather beneath him.

and the thought that has been buried somewhere inside him finally surfaces, quiet and aching.

FINALLY finished Jake’s Spider-Man story 😭😭 I was literally about to post the Jake pictures for the story title and everything, BUT suddenly my family told me we’re going to another city in my country 😭😭 ( it’s outtt nowww!! HERE )

So I had to quickly pack my suitcase and get everything ready, and we’re leaving in a little while 😭💔

So the story is getting postponed until tomorrow 💔 The drive is like 8 hours I think 😭 When I get there, I’ll try to post it for you guys because I already know I’m not gonna stop thinking about you 😭💋

ALSO I have a little problem 🤡💔 A few hours ago, while I was literally writing the story, my period decided to show up 😭😭 So now I have to suffer through the whole 8-hour drive 🤡💔
