so, soul magic. if you're reading a post on mc lore i dont need to explain that souls are in a lot of places in minecraft lore. spawners, soul sand valleys, deep dark/sculk. yknow.
but ... apparently in minecraft dungeons, theres this. big bad guy behind a kingdom of undead or something. i like to think that maybe the undead were co-opted as like "oh this is a good thing actually ahah"
but anyways
The Nameless One, his name is. right? and hes. green. there are necromancer enemies, they have glowing blue eyes and some light blue clothes, like soul stuff is usually colored! but the nameless one is green.. and theres lotta magical green fire in some levels, too.
which, you can sorta see undead represented via green magic ... in ONE spot in vanilla. phantoms. they got green eyes. now, i think... while it might be more fun to make phantoms *not* undead, and i also think... its pretty clear that everything undead probably has souls, since sculk. which in general are blue souls. i think
but okay what if, hear me out. souls decay. and as they do, they ... do a reverse process of copper oxidation in coloring. you get me? copper with full oxidation is light blue, whereas copper is orange. fire with many pure unaltered souls in it... is light blue. whereas fire without souls at all, is orange. what could that make green fire? either decayed/infected souls (cool idea tbh) or artificial/altered souls
now, artificial souls or decayed organic souls... while its cool, i think its hard to make work because... uh. deep dark. but okay, maybe the sculk was the one way they FINALLY found to make souls not decay. sure. but what about soul sand valleys. maybe those are just, unaltered and raw, i suppose. but i think considering the wither, those souls would be pretty decayed, yeah? its all withered away.
but, i wanted to throw it out here, in case someone wants to take the concept, or just. spin around their own ideas
im spinning the idea in my head still, and thinking... okay, maybe green soul magic can work, just as... soul magic but specifically with intention of Evil Undead Army, which was from soul magic being co-opted by Evil People. and the deep dark and stuff is separate from other undead soul magic. which might be true. but this vaguely goes against the idea that whatever was going on at ancient cities led to the creation of spawners... because then those definitely arent separate factions, right?
another wild idea i had was if like, making the portal to The Soul Dimension. in a deep dark biome. ended up having the sculk feed off of the very afterlife itself, which then led to the closing of the portal...
is why souls are just kinda fucked up and all angry now? like imagine you try to gain access to HEAVEN and then you let loose a fucking virus mold spore in there, and now everywhere that communed peacefully with the afterlife, is now being destroyed by the fury of confused and angry souls
idk i like some of these ideas but i also lowkey wanna start a new canvas on it all. i do also have an older post about deep darks that i still agree with, gonna tag it with #jake mc lore ...
but the tl;dr about what i think of ancient cities is that they were built purposefully in deep dark biomes for the fact that theres a sort of "rift" between dimensions in those places. think uhh... gravity falls. yeah. the barrier between worlds is kinda loose there, or maybe it isnt and thats just what the old ancient people speculated based on the sculk.
