Hey there! I have a headcanon regarding the ancient cities. I believe their former inhabitants were the Illagers for a few, admittedly small, reasons but I'd love to hear your input if you have any. First of all, the chiseled deepslate somewhat resembles their faces. This one is definitely the weaker, but it does catch my attention when I explore the ancient cities. The other thing is that Illagers seem suited to the dark. Pillager outposts and woodland mansions are dark, dark enough to even spawn monsters. Dark oak forests, where the woodland mansions are found, are also dark. Like I said, it's weak and flimsy, but I feel like they were once inhabitants of the ancient cities, but the spread of skulk and the appearance of the wardens, they were forced to the surface and had to adapt, becoming the raiders we know today.
I originally thought of it more as a skull; but I can see it now! I do recall woodland mansions and outposts having little to no light. I wonder if the illagers are adapted to that and have some type of light sensitivity, or just prefer the dark. This is a really interesting theory!
There had to have been some sort of civilisation in the deep dark. These could be descendants of illagers (and/or villagers), maybe they tell stories about them to their children as a warning to not wander off alone, a generational tale told again and again. I love illagers, glad I got to work my brain worms!
my two week minecraft has kicked in and i made an OC for mine and my friends SMP/RP world!
I created her out of the top of my head, but here’s a little backstory: i am also not the best writer. this is just a messy rough raft lore
Pearl (her placeholder and possible name), was once a lovely housepet to an NPC/player in minecraft. her owner had many different animals, but commonly picked pearl and her accompanying dog to go out with her on adventures. Their owner would frequently travel into the minds, bringing their animals along with them. While it was always dangerous, they usually never ran into trouble.
Until they started hanging around the Deep Dark.
fascinated with these open growing areas, the player would begin to travel deep into sculk territory. Though at this time for the player, that area was unknown. it’s a general rule to be prepared when you visit new areas, and while the player went diving in, they leave animals right before the sculk.
it doesn’t take long till the player gets in into trouble, and summons the warden. In an attempt to escape, the player runs back out through the hole while shooting arrows, leaving the animals behind. Accidentally hitting Pearl in the process, causing her to stand up. Pearl turns around to look for her owner, but they are long gone. Attempting to also find their way of escaping, the sculk wraps around their legs, and drags them deep into the flora.
in my own universe, the school is very much alive and acts like sea anemones which have long tendrils, grabbing at organisms around them to wrangle them back in and steal nutrients from. because of this, the tens have claimed many victims, some of those creatures actually being sentient. and just like soul sand, the souls are technically trapped in there, and can mix with new hosts and corrupt/join the souls already inside.
this happens to Pearl, and the sculk begins to drain the life out of her. her animalistic instincts kick in, which then get overpowered by the souls trapped in the skull. Another sentient host begins to harbor her mind and body, causing spinal malformation to happen and her body stretches out and contorts to a human like appearance. it is almost like her mind is split into a pie chart, most of it is corrupted, but there are other halves that contain the animalistic instincts of when she used to be a cat, and the new harboring host of a (most likely) human. The mind is actively deteriorating, but the neurons firing in the remaining parts of her brain are fighting to learn how to walk and talk again. This host had been trapped for so long. Almost like Michael Afton from FNAF’s sister location.
A lot of her speech is under developed, jumbled, and sometimes consists of just meowing/howling.
[all of what happens now is basically up to whatever I decide to do in my friends server lol]
