Jake is one of those people who don't really know who they are and so cling very strongly to the traits they know they have, usually unconsciously. As a result he tends to be much quirkier when he's uncomfortable. He "knows" he's violent, and so when he's uncomfortable he is much more violent than when he's comfortable. His accent gets much stronger. He's meaner. He eats more when he's out of his element.
