For John Cameron, the awards and the accolades (and the pay)are part of what helps establish that his show is the best. That he’s stillrelevant; that no matter what the PBC President may think of him on any givenday, he and his show are beloved around the world. Awards help cement in hismind that he is a success and to him, with so little personal life outside ofwhat he can professionally accomplish, being a success is everything.

His dressing room has multiple trophies, his living room inhis apartment has a few, but his bedroom is one of the few sanctuaries thatJohn Cameron feels that he can escape from the outside world. And outsidepressures such as having to be a success. He had tried keeping awards in hisbedroom, but on the days when getting out of bed (let alone, going down to theEiffel Tower) was more of a challenge than it otherwise should have been, theawards on display seemed to be mocking him. You’llnever win another award from your bedroom. What are you going to be known fornow? Most days hosting a radio program from between the sheets? Soultimately, they had to go — either to be packed away or to repositioned intoplaces that couldn’t be seen from his bed.
