Hii AJ! I'm not sure how many pending asks you have atm or if I'm even supposed to be sending asks to this blog instead of JWB but since this is unrelated to IPK I thought to reach out here, please answer only if you want to and have the time to :)
I finished Ipkknd a while ago and I have had nothing good to watch for so long, i was looking forward to Kabhi kabhi ittefaq se and Balh2 but i couldn't get into the latter and the former seems like some show I've seen already, do you still watch something on ITV and do you have any recs?
Also, random question but when did you first watch Ipkknd? What got you hooked to it?
Hello loveliest@rae-blogging Since you wrote to my other blog toh you get the benefit of a faster reply, lol. I have 15!!!
You are very very sweet so ofc I'd love to reply to you! Thank you for the loveee <3 Currently ITV is in its worst state in its existence. There's barely anything worth watching.
The two shows that is on air and I'm watching are:
Waghle Ki Duniya - a fun family sitcom that's about a middle class family
Ziddi Dil Maane Na - not the most interesting show but it's a fun take on friendships, love and life in a military setting (very nostalgia feelz of early 2000s Star One)
I keep a track of:
Imlie - Sumbul and Farhan are great actors and share amazing on screen chemistry and I was taken by Aryan and Imlie's platonic relationship that simmered with the first blush of love. However I'm not the biggest fan of this forced wedding and all. Big turnoff. The show works well when stereotypical plot points aren't forced in. Also Imlie's loyalty to her 'ex sasuraal' is getting on my nerves, along with Aryan choosing the most convoluted way of getting a girl out of emotionally abusive and controlling relationships.
Kabhi Kabhi Ittefaq Se - the bengali version of this show was very sweet and it's kinda refreshing. The first few episodes are hard to sell and it feels like a reboot of Sasural Genda Phool however this show is a decent watch from the moment the leads decide to mutually agree to a divorce post a year. The show is wholesome and has its moments, but nothing that keeps me hooked to it.
Bade Ache Lagte Hai 2 - I am attracted to Ram being such an awesome guy. Absolutely love him! The plot? Not so much. Again first few episodes are tough to sell but this is the only reboot of an old show that is actually very good? Priya's character growth is stagnated so it puts the story in a slow pace - otherwise her pragmatism is charming - apart from the self age shaming. In short it's not something I'm very invested in, but it has its moments of 'aww' and 'hey that was nice'. The pros is that you can see good friendships in the show. The cons is sometimes this pair of 32 and 38 years old behave like they're in their 80s and there's nothing left to life cause they're so old. Dude even people in their 80s enjoy more at times. Last pro - Nakuul and Disha actually have really good chemistry.
Fanaa - it is a bit too quickly paced for my liking, but it's Colors show and the channel people there are crazy - they literally change plots overnight - but it's the only thriller show where the female lead is actually disgusted by the male lead's obsession and the male lead is a brilliant example of a deranged anti hero. It's like if Shyam was Khushi's best friends and did his shenanigans. First few episodes are a hard sell but I really like that the show ships the friendship and how Pakhi is growing to love her friend, but then seeing a brutal end by the fact that her friend may not be who she thinks he is. I only hope it ends as a good revenge drama. The female lead isn't an idiot and the male lead isn't a BUAHAHAHA villain. He has his motivations - but isn't excused for it and his psychology has its negatives and positives. IN GENERAL THOUGH, ITV has lost the era where something was consistently good. People who have long watched ITV have simply stopped watching it now and it's understandable. You might like these set of recommendations I had for shows in the recent past. If you wanna watch something Desi - I'd highly recommend going back to old shows cause old is literally gold here.
One other show that's not in my recs anywhere is Kaatelal and Sons. I definitely recommend watching this show all the way till the father accepts the two daughters for his business and where both of their marriages are fixed and it's a happily ever after. This is the guide for the show:
Watch it completely till Episode 167 (SKIP THE PART WHERE CHANCHAL CHACHI HAS MET AGNI'S MUM), otherwise watch as per time stamps below,
Episode 168 - 0:00 - 14:55, 18:38 - end of episode
Episode 169 - 0:00 - 1:56, 4:34 - 9:42, 10:04 - end of episode
Episode 170 - 00 - 2:10, 2:36 - 4:22, 6:42 - 8:43, 9:31 - 10:04, 10:39 - 11:46, 14:04 - 20:22
Episode 171 - 0:48 - 2:33, 5:59 - 9:09, 12:02 - 14:36, 18:27 - end of episode
Episode 172 - 00 - 4:42
Episode 173 - 4:26 - 11:31, 12:02 - end of episode
Episode 174 - 0:00 - 9:42
Episode 177 - 0:00 - 3:59, 9:55 - 10:55, 16:48 - 19:30, 19:44 - end of episode
Episode 178 - 0:00 - 1:50, 2:12 - 7:55, 8:17 - 9:42
Episode 179 - 2:33 - 3:20, 7:21 - 8:22, 9:41 - 11:26
THE END - THAT'S IT THE SHOW ENDED THEN AND THERE!
Phew that was a long list - hope you enjoyed this ask :)
Lots of love,
- AJ
hey jalebi how have you been?
i love your writing and many analyses and was wondering what is some ipkknd fan fiction you like to read, and what would you recommend? I am open to old and new, long and short, and everything in between.
Love,
An ardent fan
Hello hello,
I've been better - hoping to push off procrastination and do some good work!
I always look up the IPK Ficverse, such a good compilation of stories!
Love,
Jalebi
Heyy! I love ipkknd and your blog. I spend most of my leisure time scrolling your tumblr :) my happy place is ipkknd so it helps My question to you was. Do you know any other shows that has similar chemistry and story to ipkknd.
Hello love,
I am so glad you love this blog :)
To be very honest, nothing matches the chemistry in IPKKND. And I'm being serious. Any show after IPK, like IPK, has blatantly copied it to a point it's not interesting to watch.
However, there are a few shows I enjoyed watching because it was good.
- Mehendi Hai Rachne Waali (yes the accent and above all coloring is extremely racist, but the good part about that show is we have strong leads, hilarious dialogues, great background music and probably one of the best redemption tracks on ITV. You can nearly watch the whole show - just skip the last two tracks.)
- Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum (it is miles away from IPK but it works with two people having the worst opinions of each other and falling in love regardless. Some scenes are gold. Just ignore most of the subplots and watch only the first 70ish episodes).
- Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi (there's a bit too much family drama here for my liking but again it starts with two people having the worst opinion of each other and a realistic take on how they fall in love and all. It goes on for far too long and once again, there's too much family stuff going on but the leads have good chemistry and the plot is pretty compelling).
Here are some shows I'd recommend you to watch in bits and pieces. Because the following shows would not look good at one sitting.
- Ishqbaaz. It has the same vibe (sometimes a bit too much) but the thing is it flows between absolute comedy gold to WTF what is going on. I have issues with the main lead - Shivaay and Annika. He sexually harasses her multiple times. don't ship them at all. You'd have to skip a few episodes because otherwise Annika has some of the best dialogues in ITV. In fact I ship Shivaay with Advay and Annika with Malvika but we don't get everything in this world. Also Omkara and Gauri - I have no idea how their relationship starts and don't care - but the angst they have and Om trying to win her back is freaking fantastic. The family dynamics are great as well.
- IPK 3. The things is... I really liked this show for what it could've been and the only thing that doomed this was the channel making this IPK. I bet if they had their original background score, did NOT put Rabba Ve, removed the Raizada from Advay's name and didn't make Advay appear as a sexual predator - it would've been a brilliant show because Advay is extremely arresting as a lead and Chandni has her moments of brilliance (Shivani has a really good voice). Like if it was not IPK3, it would've been a successful show. Just keep it as Mohra! I'm super attached to IPK's background so I've literally changed the audio to see some scenes. If you aren't too attached to IPK's audio you can enjoy a few scenes in there. Also Barun as a villain was so good. Pity they changed this show to what not.
To be honest there are few shows in the genre of IPK that has been consistent. If you want a show that's overall great, my recommendations would not be from the same genre but here they are:
- Miley Jab Hum Tum (one of the few good takes on college life and love with the perfect 2000s cheesiness - you will ship Samrat/Gunjan and Mayank/Nupur. Also has the cutest ending on ITV)
- Sarabhai VS Sarabhai (the best Indian sitcom)
- Ziddi Dil Maane Na (a throwback to the old military based shows in 00s. It's about a group of people in training and paths cross as people become fast friends and fall in love. We have three different love stories here).
Best,
- JWB
do u have any other serials you've enjoyed too ? Any recs ?
Miley Jav Hum Tum, Channa Mereya, Kaha Hum Kaha Tum until episode 70, Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai and only the Om redemption track in Dil Boley Oberoi. I have a love hate relationship with Ishqbaaz so I only like bits and pieces from that show.
Hi Jalebi!!! First of all your blog is always a delight everytime i rewatch the show, it always has a new perspective to the same story I've seen so many times and adds something new everytime!! I just want to ask do you know any fanfic aus where that day on terrace asr actually confessed his love for khushi idk I'm watching these payash wedding episodes and di and Nani testing asr and khushi's feelings for each other, they seem happy of them being a couple possibly, i just want to know what would have happened if it all actually happened. If it all worked out and there actually was a 'rishtey ki baat' for asr and Sanka devi. Also i don't want shyam to not be there (he might be trash but he adds drama lol) , just him doing his evil plans after the confession? Thank you I'd love to hear your thoughts and or love any recommendations from you or fellow viewer's of any sort of that kind of writing pieces. Thank you again!! Love your blog!! <3 ❤️
Hello What-if Anon!
Thank you for always visiting and sending love to my blog <3
I know there was something written by @phati-sari - it might help to search her blog! The only other one I know is an incomplete fic by Doe-Eyes on India Forums called A Series of Most Fortunate Events
You might want to read this and this regarding my thoughts on the terrace sequence!
Much love,
Jalebi
Hi JWB ! How are you ? Sending you all good wishes from India :) I have a friend who I've almost persuaded into watching the show but she says she'll watch a couple of episodes randomly and decide. So I told her to watch the Payash wedding ritual episodes because they're my fav from the show. So my question is if you had to recommend one track like that to convince someone to watch the show, which one would it be ? Hope this is not a lot of pressure lol ! Have fun :D
Hello Anon!
I’m doing well, thank you so much for asking! Oh, the warm wishes are well received. For laughs and love - I would definitely recommend from the moment NK steps into the house to the morning of Akash Payal’s wedding. That full track is amazing. I MEAN LOOK AT THESE TWO BELOW:
That track was the golden age of IPK! I just realised I made SO MANY gifs of this track!
Thanks for asking!
- JWB
