Congrats on your graduation! 🎉✨
For the prompts, could you please do: for luck with Gil-galad and Elrond? Thank you!!
10. for luck
~
“Wait,” Elrond said, and Gil-galad paused. His herald smiled, reaching out a hand, and after a moment, Gil took it.
Elrond squeezed his hand, and Gil shivered all of a sudden as a wave of energy rushed through him. He felt—lighter, somehow, and more vibrant. More alive.
He looked curiously at Elrond, and was surprised to see his herald’s eyes shining pure black. “Elrond?”
Then Elrond blinked, letting go of his hand, and when he smiled again his eyes were back to their normal twinkling grey.
“What was that?” Gil-galad asked.
“For luck,” Elrond said simply, as if that explained everything. “It’s—Elros and I figured it out, at Amon Ereb. I don’t know how else to describe it but—you’ll be a lucky, for a day or so. It should help you get the people on your side. It managed to make even Maedhros diplomatic, back then.”
Gil-galad hesitated. You never knew my father before the Nírnaeth, he realized with a pang. How do you think he formed the Union in the first place?
But it wasn’t Elrond’s fault he didn’t know—and it was a small miracle for Maedhros to pull himself together enough to rally troops in defense of that small, doomed keep.
Even if Elrond’s “luck” was nothing more than the love he inspired, that wasn’t insubstantial. And he was Maia-touched, Gil reminded himself. He’d felt that rush of power.
So: “Thank you,” he said, and meant it. “I need all the luck I can get.”
