One of the very first events that Jason had attended upon returning to town had been Pride Weekend, just a year ago. It wasn't something that he was used to; he was out, sure, but he had always just kept to himself, wasn't much of a dater, had never cared for labels. But he had to admit that the festival was pretty fun, did bring everyone together and have a certain air to it that made everyone feel comfortable, at ease, and most importantly: loved. He was just handing over a couple of dollars for one of the games -- pick-a-pop, not that he needed a lollipop -- when he noticed someone else nearby, offering a smile when he recognized James. "Hey, man, fancy seeing you here."

After a long, strenuous day of working as a Curse Breaker, Benjy was looking forward to going home and cooking a warm meal. He had no complaints; being back at work after his suspension was a blessing, another opportunity that he had no intention of fumbling again. But before that, he had to stop to leave a message for Albus. Information had come into the Curse Breaker department about some suspicious activity being reported around Belgium, which Dumbledore had specifically asked Benjy to pass along. The meeting with his former headmaster was brief and to the point, and soon Benjy was making his way out of headquarters, but not before rounding a corner and walking right into someone he’d been subconsciously avoiding.

“Oh, um,” Benjy began, taking a moment to gather himself. “Hey, James.”

Snow fell gently all around them as James and Sirius strolled around Hogsmeade. It was almost that time of year when the magical town became especially magical. Shop windows were decorated in red, white, and green, with each store conjuring up a unique way to market their product while keeping things festive. Honeydukes had an array of delicious treats propped up for passerbys to see, including a gingerbread house with it’s own continually falling icing sugar snow. Dogweed and Deathcap had some usual staples on display, but they were positioned lower so that the poinsettias and mistletoe could take centre stage. Spintwitches Sporting Needs was Sirius’s favourite though. The Quidditch shop had rigged their window display so that miniature, enchanted figurines flew around on an appropriately sized Quidditch pitch, playing a looping game with a snitch that would never be caught.

The boys were shopping that day with purpose and yet for nothing in particular. Their goal was to find a gift from each of them for Harry, but neither had zeroed in on what they wanted to get the young boy. Lily and him had already done the bulk of the Christmas shopping, but James was always looking for special things he could buy his son. Sirius, on the otherhand, hadn’t started any of his Christmas shopping. He loved the people in his life dearly, but that love didn’t do much to change his disorganization and last-minute nature.

“Where do you think we should stop in? I don’t want to get him anything you guys have already bought for him.” Lily had told Sirius some of the presents they bought for Harry when he’d had tea with her last week, but he knew that was far from all of them.

"What do you think?" Josh asked as he turned to the person next to him in line, looking up at the board of options. The stand specialized in 'oddball' carnival foods, fried things you wouldn't necessarily think to try, candies and sweets, all sorts of drinks that he had never once tried in his life, but suddenly felt like he needed to, just for the hell of it. "Go all out and try the most bizarre thing, or start tame so I don't burn out and walk around feeling like one big regret all night?"

As soon as Lily read her NEWT results, she apparated to James’ house. When she found him she jumped on his back, wrapping her arms around his shoulders with one hand still clutching her results. “I got an E!” She squealed, alarmingly close to his ear.

Mary had been up all night.  After Remus left her flat the day before to go see Sirius, Mary had set about seeing what she could learn and do to help Remus and her friends.  She had years of obliviousness to make up for and she intended to do all she could.  Unfortunately, all she knew was what she read and after so many hours, the words were swimming before her eyes.  She couldn’t read anymore and her flat was beginning to fill with the fumes from her attempted potions.  It was time, she knew, for a break.  

Leaving the windows open to air the place out, Mary gathered her Healer’s bag and some supplies and made her way to James’ flat.  She needed to talk and it would seem she and James were overdue for a conversation.  Not to mention, she’d been meaning to check on that leg.  She knocked on the door when she arrived but shouted through the wood as she did.  “James?  It’s Mary.  Shout if you’re there and don’t you dare walk on that leg to open this door.”
