Not sure if anyone's asked you this before, but how do you write Jame's accent?
Thank’s for asking! My secret is that I have spent an inordinate amount of time listening to Scottish men talk, and thusly have gradually absorbed the accent into my bones and developed the power to spew out a what I think is a passable imitation of it in writing.
This is actually troublesome when I’m woring on my major non-g/t fiction project (well, there’s a smidge of G/t, as a treat) where the main character is Irish, and I have to pause every five minutes and be like “Is this phrase a bit of Irish slang or is it Scottish slang? Or is it an English-ism I absorbed from reading Harry Potter too many times?”
(Jokes on me, the answer is none of the above, it’s actually amereicanized shite, and I desperately need an Irish beta-reader to set me straight)
