Clearly I've been watching too much Underground (go WGN for producing two awesome shows I love) and GoT because as soon as TR and Tom had their horse riding scene about how TR will eventually own the plantation and all the slaves, my mind went to that plotting place.

I'm not going to lie, I don't know at what age back then a kid could basically be considered an adult. You have cherub face Ben having crushes on hookers and hunting runaways and tiny, angel James picking cotton and expected to pick as much as an experienced adult.

So wouldn't it be amazing if TR was talking to Miss Ernestine, maybe like when she's tucking him into bed or he's trying to sneak some candy from her, and he confides in her that he wants to be different, rule the plantation differently. We know that his sister is comfortable enough with Miss Ernestine to hug her and he has no problem doing her a favour in exchange for sweets. What if they talked and they conspired to poison Tom? He dies and everything goes to TR. He obviously can't just release all the slaves, his mother wouldn't allow it. But he could be different, treat them well, get James and all the little kids out of the field.

Let Sam buy his freedom--his own or James's. He'd be Bran Stark and Miss Ernestine would be Maester Luwin. TR could call the search off for The Macon Five, giving them the opportunity to escape North. He could have the Hawkes come down and John could educate TR on what's legally his and how best to get out of slave owning. And TR could give James family freedom and he could become a abolitionist too and his main argument is that he found a friend in his secret brother (because I totally agree that James is Tom's son) and black people aren't horses, you can't beat them into submission to use them. And he lives happily ever after with his bestie and he helps abolish slavery and eat molasses candy.

Yeah, it's a far fetched fantasy but a girl can dream.

Scenes from The Cradle that made me cry

Literally, this episode fucked me up so much. James working in the field and seeing his little hands bleed. Boo remembering Moses telling her where his name came from. Boo helping Elizabeth with her bath. Sam trying to buy James's freedom (you sweet angel too pure for this world). TR telling James he'll make things better when he's older. ("Remember, we promised we would always share everything." "I don't want your candy.")
