15. How do they comfort one another when the other is upset?

jamiliz:

when Liz is upset Jamil offers to let her help with his tasks for the day, the type of menial chores that she as a busybody would appreciate doing to get her mind off things

Liz in turn does not bother Jamil directly if she knows he’s in a bad mood, opting to text him encouragement and remind him she’ll be ready to hear him out once he’s done internally processing

at the end of the day though both set time aside to sit down and pamper the other while they air out whatever leftover grievances need to be said

Beau doesn’t like letting others know that he’s upset about anything ever and Malleus isn’t one to offer his own struggles on a silver platter. instead of confronting it directly they find themselves walking along the campus grounds while they quietly talk about whatever topic comes to mind, the brief stint of escapism does wonders. at one point Malleus (presumably) jokingly offers to be rid of both their problems but Beau is quick to shoot that down, in the grand scheme whatever upset them didn’t need THAT dire a measure

Malleus finds the simple act of Beau smiling carefree something he’s been quickly endeared to. he notes that it makes Beau appear a lot more youthful, has even commented on it and found that the awkward smile he was given in response wasn’t as satisfying

Beau is embarrassed to admit it but he enjoys any physical affection related to comfort, particularly whenever Malleus threads his hand into his hair and massages his scalp. the first time it happened Beau subconsciously leaned into the hand completely relaxed, mortified once he snapped out of his stupor to see the Malleus’ mildly smug expression

obviously Jamil is the one screaming directions at Liz while she handles the spiders and other insects alike lol. prior to living in Ramshackle Liz didn't have much experience with handling bugs but she quickly became accustom to it once she realized neither the ghosts nor Grim were going to be helpful.

doubly so the moment she discovered how petrified Jamil becomes in their presence, the first time she heard him scream bloody murder over a bug on the wall left her shocked fr. now any time a spider even looks in their direction Liz is already fixing Jamil with an eyebrow raise and a playful tease, Jamil would rebuke he weren't so fixated on keeping his guard up incase the creature somehow escapes her grasp.

neither of them would become particularly jealous in fact there's a very vague sense of satisfaction watching others trying to shoot their shots and failing.

Liz finds gratification in others agreeing with her viewpoint that Jamil is a catch and boyfriend material, that she truly lucked out having her feelings reciprocated considering their circumstances. its only when someone becomes uncomfortably insistent or if its someone of higher status than Jamil that Liz steps in and introduces herself as his girlfriend (all bets are off if anything happens after)

Jamil gets a stroke to his ego watching Liz reject someone outright, she's been painfully straightforward the moment she confessed to him its harder to doubt her loyalty at this point (the exception of course being Kalim but both have assured him multiple times that their relationship is platonic)
