New local hoops site has an interview with Damion Lee, which made my heart all aflutter when I was reminded that he is only a freshman.
Next season, the Dragons will graduate Chris Fouch, Daryl McCoy, and Derrick Thomas; combine that with Samme Givens' open spot, and you have four scholarships with which you can reload for 2013-14.
That team will feature, DARE I SAY IT, an NBA prospect backcourt, with Senior Frantz, and Junior Lee. At the three you'll have Tavon Allen, who will presumably spend next season doing sweet dances and playing like this:
So the question becomes, with four open scholarships in 2013-14, what can this coming season mean for the FUTURE of the program? Keep reading...
Again, assuming that 3 of 5 starting spots are in the hands of extremely talented players currently rostered, in 2013 you could potentially be adding 1-2 game ready freshman starters (as Damion was this year) as well as building out the strong bench depth needed to contend with elite programs (which, with a 7 man rotation this season, we didn't have).
This fall, Bru's crew will be bringing recruits out to see an impressive team in front of (AHEM, CALLING ALL ALUMS IN THE PHILLY AREA) a packed, loud DAC. With the CAA in shambles, and only 7 teams competing for the title, the Dragons are considered front-runners to earn their first auto-bid since joining the league.
When that happens, said recruits are now watching the Dragons compete in the dance, and with the open scholarships, considering the major minutes available on a elite level team, with the support of a growing alumni base, an incredible student section, an increasingly beautiful campus, and thanks to Mr. Daskalakis' generosity, an evolving home gym.
So if this season goes according to plan, are we at a point where the Damions/Frantzs become the norm, rather than the exception? Will this season be the the inflection point at which the perfect storm which has been brewing (Bru-ing?) for the past 10 years finally hits?
