just watched napoleon dynamite for the first time and truly WHAT an experience that was. possibly my new favourite movie. how have i not seen this till now

i had a vision

So I somehow missed watching anything Ghibli except for Ponyo when I was growing up because my grandma rented it on VHS for us kids to watch, but I’ve heard the music for most of my life and regularly use it to help with sleep.

Lately, my husband and I have been trying to watch one Ghibli movie each month because our schedules are so out of sync and it’s a nice way to relax together, and we’ve had Ghibli piano medleys playing in the background while we try to fall asleep.

So imagine my surprise and shock when after months of this, I finally hear one specific song playing that catches me completely off guard because I recognize the melody so distinctly that it pulls me out of my sleepiness, but I don’t recognize it from a Ghibli movie.

I RECOGNIZED THE TUNE FROM NAPOLEON DYNAMITE!

So when I wake up later, I’m watching Napoleon Dynamite so I can see if I’m just exhausted or if they really did throw in a reference to Ghibli that I never noticed in all my decades of living.
