The moment those words left her lips, Avery regretted them but said nor did nothing to take them back. She knew deep down that she was just mindlessly and uncharacteristically lashing out at her best friend but she was confused to what had happened between them; what had happened to her. All her life she had though she was straight like a board, just that she never took interest in dating nor did she have the patience to date anyone. For years, she thought she was just throwing herself into work because she’d rather be called a workaholic than to spend time with some guy on a date. But after that night, Avery didn’t know what to do with herself and that frustration just went onto her now-crying friend who didn’t deserve any of it. With tears blurring her own vision, Avery looked away. “I-” She started but her words got caught in her throat. “I’m not gay.” Denial. “I never thought you were some lesbian freak but I. Am. Not. Gay.” At this point, she wasn’t sure who she was trying to convince.
