Set obviously after Exodus.

Some times after Henry left, John finally finds Sam alone, looking over the walls at the smoke raising from whatever was left of the quarter.

John, who had been helping in whatever way he can, weather it was getting on his knees to tend to the wounded, or loading up the carts, searched for him as the time came for all of them to depart to Kolin and found him at the edge of the clearing.

John knows that everything was his fault. But how does he apologize? Where would one even begin? His list of sins has grown so long and it's wrapped around his neck and choking his soul.

He approached Sam, announcing his arrival with a soft call of his name. But Sam barely responded to him with a glance. His sad eye's were fixed on the raising smoke. On John's sins.

But Sam wasn't crying. He was born into the smoke and ashes. He had no tears left as he's grown numb to it's gritting pain.

John leans his head against Sam's back with tears in his eyes, for he was not born to this agony. "I'm sorry." He pleaded. But he did not want to be forgiven.

Sam's silence was his only respond.

It's not your fault, Sam said in his mind. But he can't utter the words because if he opened his mouth now, he would break.

And he can't break right now.
