Uncle Hal, inspiring his kids, always and always. <3
hal jordan sure seems like a dad for someone who is only an uncle
Hal Jordan’s Adventures in Raising Five Kids: Through an unfortunate series of unfortunate events Hal Jordan gains custody of his brothers’ five kids.
Also ages cause I said so-
Helen & Jason- 11
Howie-8
Jane-6
Arthur-3
Hal has to get all the kids enrolled in a new school because he wanted them to have a new start.
Helen and Jason are in middle school, Howie and Jane are in Elementary school but different grades, and Arthur has to go to a private pre-school. Hal has never had to meet with so many teachers in his life. He doesn’t think he spent this long talking to his own teachers.
Homework is a mess. Hal has always been good enough at math and he recalls science enough. History and English? Might as well ask him to translate Kalanorian without his ring. Hal spends a lot of his free time reading the kids books and textbooks so he can help them. (Just wait till Arthur is older and Hal has to learn new math)
Hal honestly has no frame of reference for how to punish the kids if they cause trouble at school. Hal is sure he was punished for it but he literally can’t remember what they were cause he never listened.
Though when Jane asks to have her hair done in an undercut Hal of course takes her to have it done right away. Hal does have to work out how to express his displeasure at the teaching staff later though. Hal calmly (loudly) informs the teachers that they should be more worried about kids with fucked up gender ideals than Jane’s hair causing a disturbance.
Hal also for sure has to have a steady job that is safer than Test Pilot for the courts to grant someone who’s as much of a flight risk guardianship of five kids.
I’ve seen it a lot that Hal has a degree in Aviation Engineering and considering he was passed over but considered for a project with NASA once I believe it. So maybe Hal gets a job designing planes instead of flying them.
I’m imagining half days with five kids running about Hal’s work place. Well Jane and Jason are. Arthur sits by Helen and lets her braid his hair while Howie asks Hal a million questions.
Hal is used to sleeping alone most nights. Now it’s uncommon to not be woken up in the middle of the night by Arthur climbing into the bed. Or during a storm Hal might get all five in his bed.
He prefers it that way. Saves him from getting up in the night to check on them all if they’re right with him.
When Hal Jr visits he gets the pullout couch. Which suits him just fine he doesn’t need to share with anyone.
Hal Jr brings his roommate home for the holidays once and they share the pullout. Hal spends the entire time trying to figure out if they’re dating but he keeps getting pulled away by another kid.
I’m imagining Hal on the phone with Hal Jr. who’s frantically expressing gay thoughts that have surprised him. Hal was not surprised. Hal is trying to give him dating advice while stirring dinner and trying not to step on Arthur because he refuses to stop staring at the garlic bread cooking in the oven.
Half of maneuvering the Jordan house is trying not to step on kids the other half is trying not to step on the things they leave all over the place.
Hal didn’t need any outside reasons to go grey, having five kids is aging him like crazy.
Hal wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. Not the screaming matches, or the fights between the kids, the constant presence he has to have at the school, or the house being a disaster zone. Because when he looks at the kids he knows there is nothing in the world that matters more than keeping them safe.
Actually if there was one thing Hal could change- Jason’s favorite superhero is Batman and it is going to drive Hal insane if he has to buy one more Batman t-shirt.

So back when Hal was the Spectre his zero day stuff had a massive effect on his family.
Hal’s little brother Jim and his family were still dead. So Susan, Howie, Jane, and Arthur.
But Hal’s older brother Jack- his family was all changed around.
Originally Jack had a wife named Jan and twins Jennifer and Jason. Then post crisis Jennifer’s name was changed to Helen.
Post Zero hour Jason Jordan didn’t exist. Jan was dead and Jack died soon after. Hal to look out for his niece.
And Helen was special. She had some deep connection to Fate and the Universe. She played Candy Land with the Phantom Stranger once.
But what if all the kids stuck around. What if Jim’s kids were staying with their Uncle Jack when Coast City was destroyed?
Jack also was looking out for his cousin Hal Jr, the Second Airwave just as an aside.
But then imagine Jack and Jan are killed somehow in a car crash I think was how they died post zero hour.
So instead of Parallax invading him and Hal trying to rebuild Coast City, Hal now has two nieces and three nephews to look after.
And Hal leaves the Corps behind still. He’s got five kids to raise after all. I just think Hal’s adventures with Helen were rad.
But imagine Hal’s adventures in raising five kids. And an orphan cousin who’s in college and needs to have somewhere to go sometimes.
Like seriously if you haven’t read the Green Lantern Annual from 2019 do. It really show cases how chaotic these kids are. You won’t see Arthur though he hasn’t existed since the first crisis.
Ah I posted about Hal’s fam a bit ago and I thought I’d pull a group shot from the Green Lantern Annual from 2019
Closest to the little blue guy is Jane Jordan. She is Jim and Sue’s second daughter. That’s right she’s supposed to be the youngest one there. Even in the previous reboot ones she was the youngest. But this was a Morrison thing and Morrison doesn’t do their homework. Even a quick google could have told them that. But I choose to view it as Jane being a really tall like eleven year old. It can happen.
Next in the green shirt is Howie Jordan. Jim and Sue’s eldest child. Howie in the reverse of his sister is a short king. And he should probably be like thirteen or something by now. Maybe it’s something to do with that coma he was in stunting his growth.
And the blonde girl is Helen Jordan the daughter of Jack and Jan. She is hiding in her twin brother’s neck because she was just microwaved and then fixed so she’s a little rattled. She saw visions of her Uncle as a Ghost. I assume a nod to the Spectre series where she lived with Hal.
The kid with the headphones is Jason Jordan. Since the reboot he was almost kidnapped but saved by Dick Grayson as Grayson an Agent of Spyral from a plane. It was very cool. I’d wager that Helen and Jason are supposed to be anywhere from 14-16. They were always the oldest of the bunch.
So then we’ve got Hal Jr. in the back wearing the yellow suit. He’s the second Air Wave. He can control any waves and travel along them but he usually stick to radio waves. It’s actually a pretty impressive power. I think Hal jr is supposed to be 18 ish. Also he switches from calling the elder Hal his cousin and his uncle. They’re first cousins but have a large age gap. And Junior is an orphan so his Uncle Jack and Jim switch between looking out for him.
Oh and there is this so maybe we’ll see Hal Jr around during Pride Month, you know if DC remembers him.
