Fate has nothing in store for you. You weren't meant to exist. You know this.
And yet, you want to exist. You want to be happy. You want to exist happy, you want Hal to be happy too.
The game is unforgiving. Any mistake and you're dead. Hal was the last person you expected to make a mistake. You helped. Oh god, you helped.
Hal told you to kill him. You watch the coolant drip, trickle, flow off the edge of the pink slab, the pool under his back growing slowly. His chassis stopped twitching long ago. You keep thinking it'll move. It's too late. The sword has done its business.
You weren't supposed to do this. You weren't supposed to kill anyone. You should've known, this isn't Hal's deathbed, this is Dirk's.
Hal wasn't supposed to die here.
Hal wasn't supposed to exist
The game made sure that was dealt with.
You aren't supposed to exist. First you feel fear- it's cold and it hurts your chest, it makes your vision go fuzzy as you finally stumble away from Hal.
Your feet leave wet footprints.
You don't wear shoes because Hal doesn't.
You collapse to your knees, to all fours, you scream at the concrete below you. The sickly evergreen skyscraper below you creaks, as if it'll fall and destroy its precious cargo on it's roof.
Your body shakes as you stand up again, as you step across the rooftop, ignoring the sickly squish of the coolant under your feet. You stand at the edge of the roof.
You didn't mean to. This is another part of the game, you assume. You don't
You don't want to die too
You are scared to not exist.
And so, seconds before landing, you defy what the game wants.
You can feel whispers coursing through your body.
Don't give it what it wants.
They grow louder and louDER AND LOUDER UNTIL THEY'RE SCREAMING AT YOU. YOU'RE UNBELIEVABLY ANGRY.
You are angry you didn't get what you deserve. You turn your gaze down the rubble-ridden street. You are angry that Hal didn't get to play his part. You start moving- you aren't sure how, simply coursing down to your target. You are angry that Dirk would think this plan is okay.
You hold your sword out at Dirk's neck.
