The world was a swirl of colors, and her hearing was the sense that began to return to her first. Through all of the chaos, she could recognize Sunhee's voice. One shape fighting against two. Ripping free from a pair of arms. Running to her. With a blink, the shape turned into Sunhee, her body thrown over her own protectively. As the other two disappeared —hunters, she remembers now— and her vision slowly cleared, there was only Sunhee. The blood on her clothes. Bruises. Junha didn't need to ask to piece together what had happened after the ambush.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤHer silence holds for far too long. She'll blame it on her concentration on the task at hand. The gentlest touch spreads a soothing balm over Sunhee's bruises, bandage wrapped around a stray cut that traverses her bicep. All the while, Junha's eyes avoid meeting Sunhee's, merely tending to her wounds. She saved her life. She should thank her. But the reality of the situation is more grim than what it seems at the surface. They only spared her because they realized Sunhee was a human. Because they decided killing a vampire wasn't worth betraying their oath to protect humanity. Maybe it was the confusion of the situation that caused them to flee in the end. Not all hunters are like that. Had it been the wrong people at the wrong time, neither of them would have walked away from that.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤThat's the worst realization of them all: she had almost gotten Sunhee killed.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤNot from what she did or did not do.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤJust by existing. By being close to her.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤ❝ You shouldn't have done that, ❞ㅤ the vampire finally breaks her silence, eyes focused upon the alcohol-soaked rag in her hand as she wipes dried blood off of the other's skin. Her face holds a forceful composure, crafted from marble despite the storm that bellows underneath it all. ㅤ❝ The could have killed you. You're lucky you only walked away with a few scratches and bruises. What were you even thinking? ❞
